Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
So. I live in this neighbourhood of kinda shady apartments. A while back there was a gang war outside of my apartment. A few months ago someone was stabbed on the street corner. Apparently last night a cop was beaten by a gang. Tonight I saw 3 cruisers and right now, at 1:37 AM, people are screaming and yelling in agony. I've personally had people confront me, try to harass me. In the 4 years I've lived here, a firetruck has been outside dozens of times and the police a lot more.
So, if I move, will that just be me seeking comfort and perhaps identification with some other reality?

It sounds like if you could move, you would have done it already.Animus wrote:So. I live in this neighbourhood of kinda shady apartments. A while back there was a gang war outside of my apartment. What are the gangs fighting over? Money, drugs, sex, guns..

Suggest a medical malpractice attorney to the victim?

Send Rhett a PM, maybe he is looking for a tenant.
PS - Back in the late 1970s, I watched a couple politicians playing cribbage, it looked boring. They were snorting cocaine and drinking scotch whiskey. Boring. Did I say boring? Yup, boring.
PPS - Move while you have your wits about you. The heck with Ultimate Reality. One life to live.

Tomas,
J/k. I found a tenant who is moving in on March 30 or so.
I'm looking for a tenant too, and I wouldn't mind having Animus.Send Rhett a PM, maybe he is looking for a tenant.

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
I also back the notion that you should move. There is no point in placing your life in danger unnecessarily.
As Ramakrishana said, God is even in the tiger, but this doesn't mean we should sidle up to the animal.

I also have some financial issues in this economy. I work in the Automative-Data industry. And I'm single, so I pay all of the bills!

The full quote is:Dan Rowden wrote:Does "tiger" mean "woman" in his language?
As the lamp does not burn without oil, so man cannot live without God. God is even in the tiger, but we must not go and face the animal! So it is true that God dwells even in the most wicked of men, but it is not meant that we should associate with the wicked.
So you might be right ....

Animus,
The only part of what I said that is not true is that I am still looking for a tenant. That's a joke? Well, then! I can see I'm not loved :( Wah!
Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Apparently a cop didn't get beat down, but some teenager got beat down by a cop.
Probably not as big a deal as its made out to be. I haven't seen any news coverage on this. Not that I read the news that often.
The stabbing was real though I remember eating Wendy's on the street, in-front of the crime scene, because the police wouldn't let me in.

Buy a bicycle and rent a smaller place or a room, to be able to move to a better environment. Make getting out of that neighborhood your priority. You'll thank yourself for the rest of your life.Animus wrote:I also have some financial issues in this economy. I work in the Automative-Data industry. And I'm single, so I pay all of the bills!

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Here is part of the dilemma.
I live in a 70 sqft apt.
It consists of basically one bedroom and a bathroom, the rest is just one living room/kitchen.
Where I live is a ten minute walk from work (I do own a bike).
But like I said, I'm a lazy mofo, thats the main obstacle. I'll sooner get shot in the street than have to get up early and take a bus to work. I used to ride my bike to work, but that got old pretty quick.

Dude, that's tiny. My bathroom alone is near 70 sf.Animus wrote:Here is part of the dilemma.

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Animus,
Are you sure you didn't mean 700 sq. feet? That would still be tiny, but livable.
There's gotta be a mistake here. I converted that to square meters, and it is only 6.5. My closet is bigger than that.I live in a 70 sqft apt.

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Haha, yea its 700 sqft.
It is really small.
Sorry, I didn't mean to ask for advice as such, I was just plastering my personal issues on the board and wondering if my desire to move was fundamentally selfish and delusional.

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
I would sooner see your apparent desire to stay as selfish (laziness winning out over health) and delusional (thinking it doesn't really affect to you be there).Animus wrote: I didn't mean to ask for advice as such, I was just plastering my personal issues on the board and wondering if my desire to move was fundamentally selfish and delusional.
But, maybe you're thriving on the danger.
Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Avoidance of death or fear of death has never been a strong motivator for me.
I was lying in bed last night thinking, if a gang busts down my door and attacks me with machetes, I'll just let 'em do it, I'm too tired to put up a fight. Obviously my death is more important to them than my life is to me. So, let 'em have it.

Re: Its a wonderful day in the neighbourhood
Animus, I was going to make a blog, but then saw that Carl made a blog saying the same thing I was going to say, just with different words.
It seems that a death with machetes would be painful. Keep a gun close to you so that if that happens, you can shoot yourself before they get to you. Maybe even shoot them, while you're at it. You'd be doing the world a favor.I was lying in bed last night thinking, if a gang busts down my door and attacks me with machetes, I'll just let 'em do it, I'm too tired to put up a fight. Sounds as if this Animus lives in Australia. They (the power elite) have a serious issue with private citizenry keeping a gun in their homes. But then, that's one less mouth to feed and the environment has less strain on it.

I live in Canada actually. Most guns are banned here.

Yeah, it was the spelling of neighborhood that caught my eye.Animus wrote:I live in Canada actually. Most guns are banned here.
Sure, Toronto and Vancouver come to mind as being US-style crime areas .. suppose it's the hard drugs that stir up the hornets nest. Truly one of the downers of watching COPS :-(
Out in the prairie provinces, it's shotguns, a six-pack (and hashish).
