Re: chasing enlightenment
What the essential point he makes, Clyde? I'm not sure I'm up to 9 minutes of Adya.
Re: chasing enlightenment
I looked into that guy some time ago. He had a few beginner analogies, plus waffle. Nothing special, a long long way from the dragon's gates. I reckon it's time he came here, it might clarify a few things for people.Dan Rowden wrote:What the essential point he makes, Clyde? I'm not sure I'm up to 9 minutes of Adya.

Re: chasing enlightenment
I'm quite familiar with him, which is why I'm not really prepared to watch a 9 minute video without some fore-warning. As you say, he is a mix of sound Zen teaching and waffle. Not to mention interesting bank statements.

Re: chasing enlightenment
Oh, right. And his reasoning for that? Actually, never mind. I think I'll watch it and post it in the video analysis thread.

Re: chasing enlightenment
Pah, the essential message of that seems to be if you stop thinking about reality you'll somehow find it. That's bullshit. If he believed that it would be his one and only teaching. What he said about thinking about ways in which you're unenlightening yourself is fair enough, but it's mostly just a play on words. You can't really consider such a thing if you don't have an understanding to contrast it to.

Jebus,if that's the highlights I'd hate to see the filler.
He didn't say anything.

I think he was saying this:
-- from Chapter Six “Emptinessâ€, The Wisdom of the Infinite, by David QuinnThe path to enlightenment is simply one of halting deluded mental habits. Because Reality is the totality of all there is, we are already fully immersed in it. So there is no "place" in particular where we have to go, either physically or mentally, in order to experience it. All that needs to be done is to halt the habitual projection of false assumptions upon what is experienced. [emphasis added]

I have watched some Adyashanti talks at youtube before. I find him very inspiring talker. I have to admit that he has a bit of a 'boiled frog' approach, though.
He is very nice and comfortable.
His writings make an interesting read but sometimes they remain a tad superficial. This was ok:
