Re: Suffering Revisited
Didn't quote anything from wiki and I blatantly admitted I had no clue what it was about, if that's what you're referring too, though I think you were speaking about another person and/or another quote.
Moving on to an unrelated statement, the auditing sounds like it's related to the continuation of karma or habit-energy, in the way we perceive , is that close?

This scientology thing falls into squarely with the tone and content of your and Leyla's posts....too squarely. Erstwhile placentafags, lol. It's almost too good to be true. Perhaps 90% of this forum's current membership are scientologists or ex-scientologists as well, posting here to enrich their vespene reserves by conversing with uluphracticoids.Dennis Mahar wrote:How can the experience of blowing off a chain of earlier/similars be conveyed to these 'experts' who rush of to wikipedia to get a quote in order to look like an expert.

Re: Suffering Revisited
This quasi-ironic optimism is any intelligent politician, social activist, religious/cult leader's best defense against all criticism. The opposition is simultaneously shown to basically/effectively share their own worldview, and be unaware of it himself. If he protests against it then he will be perceived as being hostile and narrow-minded and consequently ignored, and if he agrees then it's another great victory for the old Peace 'n' Love, Oneness, God, Masses &c. You can never lose! Bliss all round.Dennis Mahar wrote:The truly wonderful thing is Jup.

Bless their little socks.
How can the experience of blowing off a chain of earlier/similars be conveyed to these 'experts' who rush of to wikipedia to get a quote in order to look like an expert.
If someone doesn't accept the premises upon which any given act or activity is undertaken, then that's the end of it.
You mentioned earlier the auditor/subject duo. This is another misrepresentation. In a session, it's auditor plus PC.

I don't know about worldwide, but Scientology can certainly be described as a conspiracy in one sense of the word. I mean, any religion that worships Tom Cruise as their Jesus figure should be killed. With fire.Leyla Shen wrote:Yes, it's a worldwide conspiracy. Perhaps you think your "bliss" is not some enhanced mood, related to your ability to trick your self in accepting a bunch of nihilist anesthetics? You need a shock therapy to deprogram!Dennis Mahar wrote:You say Stillness is the natural state.
That is still a moodedness, a relatedness.
Like you not knowing Buddhism, rational thought, the mind, logic and especially honesty even if you'd trip over it (like you're doing). Your whole "method" is based on lying from the ground up while stealing fragments of other cool thought to jazz it up. It could be called the "worship of lie", which is another form of the worship of self as omnipresent "buzzy" god. Naturally such body of worship related practice and preaching has to be called "Church"! But it doesn't matter if there's a membership card or not. It's the thought that counts or actually the lack of it.I meant explaining the direct experience of the TR's to the 'experts' around here who merely opinionate without 'knowing'.

LOL!
Well, jupiviv, if I were king, I think it would be prudent to take a more logical approach towards resolution of the problem.
But I definitely think you have a point; it’s just as impossible for most people to jump on Oprah Winfrey’s couch as it is for them to walk on water, yet we saw it on telly and in print with our own eyes!

Re: Suffering Revisited
Just to make clear we're not just addressing Scientology or Dennis here, here's an interesting book about the larger topic:
Psychology as Religion: The Cult of Self-Worship by Paul Vitz.
In this book the interesting development is described with the various psycho-analytic, self-help and new-age development over the 20th century how the psychological transformation of a "self" has become basically the new religion of the day, although extremely fragmented in various competing groups, books and method. You can start with Jung, Fromm, Maslow to Twelve Step, Eric Berne (Games people Play), Est, Forum , Gestalt, Western Zen and when it all culminated on a larger scale in Scientology and some other vehicles. Of course each and every of these might have produced a few interesting and useful concepts or methods but this is more about the bigger picture of how it all ended up being applied and where it revolved around.
In philosophical terms it might also be interesting to see how this might link to various Judaic concepts and "reformed" Judo-Christianity in the century before that, as "blue prints".

You're pretty bald by the way. Actually I just try to make this thread a bit more interesting -- it was not bad before you came in and peed on it -- and post what you hate most: thought, knowledge, thinking, a larger view on self and world. That kind of stuff. And I've posted about it for years. Don't try to make it again about you. There are a couple of mature thinkers in the room. Perhaps you should listen!Dennis Mahar wrote:Geez Diebert, you're working really hard to try and get a scalp nowadays. Tough times.

Assuming there's no sarcasm there, (correct me) is it something like a process of removing emotional attachment, such as preference/aversion, that has accumulated in existence which is tied to particular events/things?
Re: Suffering Revisited
You don't get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion.

Re: Suffering Revisited
Thinking about thinking discloses what is most endemic about thinking is thoughtlessness.
Thinking as equipment in your context Diebert is what?
Opinions.
Prejudice, preference, aversion.
I listened.
Can't see mature thinking from your quarter just a disposedness to opinion.
I'm not a Scientologist, that's a label you react to aversely which is your stuff not mine.
Your reactivity is yours not mine.
Own your own stuff.
You actually 'know' nothing about it but hearsay.
Your contributions won't stand up in any Court.
They are thoughtless and dishonest.
Something that promises to disclose the human condition is worth looking at.
If you actually directly experienced some of the stuff you would find it more than OK.
I looked into it for about a year, it's too expensive.
We've all looked at many things.
So what?

Religion has always been about the self and its vicissitudes and immortality. That hasn't changed. It's the self that has changed to become more niggardly and motley.Diebert van Rhijn wrote:In this book the interesting development is described with the various psycho-analytic, self-help and new-age development over the 20th century how the psychological transformation of a "self" has become basically the new religion of the day, although extremely fragmented in various competing groups, books and method.

Re: Suffering Revisited
I agree! One can see perhaps with some effort how modern culture, religion and personal lifestyles all have gravitated in the last century towards this more "niggardly and motley" (i like that!) self. It's even possible in terms of causality that it's related to the advances of industrialization, economical systems, production (of self first and foremost) and technological progress. Although I'd call it side-effect of these but then an effect attempting to get center stage and as such pretend cause.jupiviv wrote:Religion has always been about the self and its vicissitudes and immortality.
