Here is the other thread and here are the relevant excerpts:
Carl,Nick: It's ironic seeing people focussing on Dan's life, something irrelevant to their own spiritual progress, while they accuse him of focussing on something supposedly irrelevant to his spiritual development.
Carl: Dan puts himself out there as an enlightened being, and as such is a spiritual teacher. One's words are not divorced from one's lifestyle, and the proof is in the pudding. It is therefore at least somewhat relevant how he lives.
Elizabeth: Agreed. I know that Dan (and Kevin and David) don't intend to misrepresent themselves in any way; but in talking about their ideals, they often do not realize the difference between the internet impression they give of how they live and what the tangible reality of their lives are. That hearkens back to my complaints about truthful representation. It took a lot of digging for me to get a reasonable understanding of what was really going on here because they don't understand the importance of the details that are not so idealistic but are real. In their good efforts to present only what is really important (because there is already plenty of fluff on the internet), certain things come across as distorted. It's really fascinating to me how they (as quite reasonable people) can state the truth, yet reasonable people can still infer a false perception from the stated truth. It's the seemingly unimportant details that pin the truth and the reality together. It's going to take me a while to digest how this occurs.
BTW, QRS - y'all need to update your profile pages. Seriously.
Dan: What do you think needs to be changed/added, exactly?
Elizabeth: Your page still paints you as less human than you are, but it is going to take me awhile to figure out what, if anything, needs to be said to that effect. Perhaps just stating what is really obvious to you, and I can hear you now saying "That's something that shouldn't have to be said" - but - maybe right next to where you state that you are doing your best, specifically point out that you are a human? I know how stupid that sounds, and you're probably not the only one who'll just about die laughing at that concept, but you don't see the impression you give the newbies.
keenobserver: if you had any idea what it meant to be genuinely enlightened and how incredibly rare and infinitely removed it is from the race as a whole, well then ..(you know what im going to say dont you...). You simply cannot appreciate the achievement.
Just think about the person or skill or attainment you admire the most and then multiply that by one thousand and then maybe you'll be approching the worth and preciousness of true philosophic genius. Nothing not even Christian conceptions of God deserve greater association with deity. If an enlightened being isnt a god then no one and no thing IS.
Elizabeth: Dan, I'll just call this "exhibit B."
Dan: "Exhibit B" didn't speak to me much, frankly.
Elizabeth: "Exhibit B" means that it looks like keenobserver does consider you a living deity.
Dan: As it should be. About damn time! (edit by Elizabeth - I'm quite sure Dan was joking here. Dan - would you please confirm this before people start setting up altars in their rooms with your photos on them?)
Carl: Count me in among those who view QRS as living deities. That is how I think they try to come across.
In your opinion, what makes a deity?
