I was building a fence one day 25 years ago.
I was digging postholes 15 metres apart.
I was on a schedule and rushing,
At one hole I was digging a strikingly beautiful 5 foot long orange bellied black snake reared up out of a tussock.
My causal stream sliced the snake in half with the shovel.
To this day I regret.
Having had the tiniest taste of Buddha Nature.
I can't afford not to break thru'.
The way is littered with failure.
Yes....but you can thank that experience for it's great teaching !
The last time I went fishing, I stood on the end of the dock at dusk...after a few minutes I got a big bite...reeled it in....a big fat walleye....then had to disembowel & fillet the poor thing.....I felt horrible....
I had a dream of a baby on the BBQ all cut up...horrified & distraught at this nightmare....
Yes,
a transgression realised by one's self for ones self in one's own doing is a shocking experience and humbling.
The means to an end for me is plenty of rest and at least 20 minutes a day of meditative space otherwise the causal pattern streams in and I'm not 'riding the bike' in a balanced way.

Yes, but why don't we feel that same horror when we yank a carrot out of the ground & peel it's skin off & cut it up & eat it....sometimes alive !
Buddha wasn't a vegetarian either...ate whatever was given....even at the expense of his life !
Nutriments are to be looked upon for survival purposes only. There's even a [Buddhist]story about a couple walking through the desert, and they had their infant child with them, after many days of starvation, pondered to eat their own child to survive...to give them strength to cross the dessert, or they would die......so food is looked upon as only something needed by the body to survive....and whatever it takes to survive is OK.
As long as it wasn't killed with hatred & ill intensions.....intension is everything.....
