Re: Emotional Fixation
Why not Carl?
David, would you not consider that a waste of time? What's the point of emotion?

What's the point of posing this question without knowing what emotion is? What do you think anger is, for example? What generates it?nitty-gritty wrote:What's the point of emotion?

Why should we seek non-emotion?

Re: Emotional Fixation
Why seek emotion? It entirely depends on what you value.

I don't have the answers that's why I'm asking and instead of getting answers it's trolling...What's the point of posing this question without knowing what emotion is? What do you think anger is, for example? What generates it?
Is this correct:
"Emotions can be controlled to an extent"
Anger: Over-heating, too much energy generates it.

Re: Emotional Fixation
The emotions we should try to resolve are the "negative" emotions: anger, bitterness, etc. Emotions in general are not a problem. They are just gauges that tell you about your alignment with yourself. The more off-balance you are, the more extreme the emotion. Usually when you're calm or relaxed you consider your emotions to be "in check," or maybe even transcended. They are still there, though, and active; although they may not be calling for your attention.
Most people here, if not all, get their information primarily from thought and so don't pay too much attention to emotion unless they have to. It's not better or more enlightened, only a natural difference. More people happen to naturally focus their attention on emotion than on thought. It's not something that needs to be fixed or "overcome" for evolutionary purposes. When you're in balance with yourself, you will naturally pay attention to all aspects of your person while still maintaining your primary mode of information.

Abstractly it relates to the beauty we find in form, particularly symmetry, and in this case it is logical symmetry.
It is a subtle or low key emotion, it does not evoke a strong desire for immediate action as the more animalistic emotions do (but it does evoke a desire for planned, organised rational action). It is one that defines a major difference between us and other animals. Because logic and rationality is of an evolutionary advantage, the brain has developed an emotional reward mechanism for those members of the herd capable of thinking outside rote learnt herd memes.

This emotion is hard to define, because we humans have not created a specific word for it. It is partly the emotion of satisfaction with knowledge. It is the emotions attached to “being rightâ€, with certainty and givers one a sort of contentment.Geez James, where is the emotion in the truth of the Pythagoras's theorem.

I certainly am, mostly after scoffing a few beers.maestro, James is an old sourpuss who sucks lemons while he composes his posts. Just know that and it won't bother you what he says.

Re: Emotional Fixation
I was thinking along these lines while reading the post myself."without emotions, attachments cannot arise"
Isn't Attachment itself an emotion since it is linked with obsession?
Wouldn't it be more acceptable to say that to be without emotion would conclude to ultimately turning non-exsistant?
Isn't emotion more of a reaction to feelings?
If anyone disagrees please explain the reasoning... I'm interested in understanding. :P
