I blame it on my young age, good looks, and spoiled life style.

I think Robert is probably a girly sort of guy, or maybe a dyke with a guy's name, or, something.

why would I be a girly guy?

I do weight-lifting regularly and have a healthy amount of facial hair, on my face.

Personally I think the original post has a point but is not elaborating upon every possible response that everyone may or may not give. No matter what anyone posts, there will always be controversy or someone not taking what is said seriously. I think that essentially we are nothing but what we make ov ourselves and can't make anything ov ourselves other than by first taking that which we experience first. Everyone is (as far as we can objectively state) anything other than a reaction to our experiences... but then you may ask what was there before that reaction. The only objective (meaning varies based on reference) answer is a human.... a shell upon which we build and construct who we our, our "microcosm" if you will, and more and more we come to understand or react to those experiences in such a way that allows us to create who we wish to be (or more correctly, what reaction we wish to take to our experiences). I think we are a kind ov paradox, in which the meaning or definition ov that paradox changes to the way in which we analyze or percieve it. "Personally" I feel we should ask less ov who we "are" and ask more ov who we wish to be. I don't think life is about discovering yourself, or nessesarily about anything for that matter, but we should react to life based on creating ourselves and the world we live in. I can say so much more but I think it would be neverending.

Well, you'd actually be more of a blokey guy, if you had a healthy amount of womens pubic hair on your face.

No wait a sec, I'll take that back - as that would mean that you'd be less masculine as you'd be attempting to please the ladies to a greater degree that a blokey bloke would.

Anyway, returning to our normal programming:

What if what we want to be is not compatible with what we are? Don't you think at least some self knowledge is necessary to build upon?

Dan said Robert. Is your name Robert?

Can you show us a pic of yourself? Please? Maybe put it in your avatar and get rid of the Chinese girl already.

Well obviously we can only become that which is within the limits ov what it means to be human. By no means am I saying that you can make yourself something that is outside those limits, and neither am I saying to not discover what it is to be human. Actually I advocate just the opposite, as the old saying goes "Gnothi Seauton" (Know Thyself). I don't feel this means discover who you are as an individual as much as discover what you are as a human, and then build your individual self (or microcosm) upon what you choose to become. But you can't just create something that isn't known. Nothing can be controlled that isn't first understood. First seek to understand what you are and then create who you "are" (more correctly who you "choose to be").

If you are talking about your previous avatar, then of course; it was quite a professional photograph. Perfect lighting and exposure. Any idea on the make and model of the camera?

No, average is beyond the dualistic realm as in actually acknowledging or denying anything at all, or identifying with any dualistic mental projections, making your objections merely your own dualistic mental projections.

And what’s really wrong with one identifying ones Self in a non-dualistic sense rather than a dualistic one? Is that so hard to imagine? Average is pointing to the moon without really indulging in the nitpicking over the finger. If one cannot comprehend that, then that points to a lack of understanding, or mental blocks, or Ego perhaps; similar to that ‘mine is bigger than yours’ thing, and average does not actually indulge in that because that holds no inherent meaning.

It’s simply, carry water chop wood, without necessarily acknowledging or denying or even identifying with any particular thing at all. In other words, it’s simply God’s will; hence what exactly does or can an individual really do except whatever happens, fundamentally speaking?

BTW, that’s a God’s will driven point, not average’s point. If one thinks average is saying something, then that’s his problem.

That’s how I comprehend it.
Chuang Tzu once said something that applies here:

He who knows the part which the Heavenly in him plays, and knows also that which the Human in him ought to play, has reached the perfection of knowledge.

What makes you think Average hasn't made it? And what does "heavenly" mean? Causality?
D: Wisdom means knowing when to apply non-duality to a situation and when to apply duality. It all depends on what the situation is and who one is dealing with. If you go to a store and ask for a pint of milk, it would be of no use to you if the shop-keeper were to say, "Here, have a candle instead. After all, candles and milk are no different from another, as they are both dualistic illusions. The candle will be just as effective for your needs".

Does average say that the candle and milk are both one and the same, and differentiation is a dualistic illusion? How absurd. I didn’t know that.
D: The shop-keeper might think he is being wise in pointing the customer's mind to non-duality, but in truth he is dogmatically applying his own insight indiscriminately and ignoring the realities of the situation at hand. He isn't really "chopping wood and carrying water". On the contrary, his dogmatism is actually interfering with this Zennish flow.

I don’t think another can actually judge that, for that would need real merging of two different minds, and I don’t think causality allows that. BTW, what dogmatism? Thinking that wood and water are both dualistic illusions? How is he coherently operation on this forum if he cannot distinguish himself from a keyboard? Posting here would be no different than chopping wood and carrying water.
D: Simply pointing to non-duality all of the time, irrespective of the situation, is unintelligent and largely a waste of time. There needs to be the right conditions in place before such pointing can be effective. It is similar to the way in which a comedian needs to first set up the joke before delivering the punchline. If he did nothing else but deliver punchlines, the audience would only be confused and have no reason to laugh. He would be a failed comedian.
Are you saying that you are a successful comedian? I hope not ;)
D: Similarly, if a Zen master were to do nothing else but hit people with a stick and constantly twitter, "Three pounds of flax!", it would have very little effect. A quality Zen master knows that he first has to create the right conditions so that the effectiveness of his "punchlines" can be maximized. Thus, sometimes he affirms dualistic realities, sometimes he takes them away again; sometimes he treats things as real, sometimes he treats them as unreal; sometimes he reasons at length, sometimes he cuts to the heart with a single Zennish arrow, etc - all done with great intelligence and skill, perfectly matching what the situation calls for.
Sure, but however its all God's will, so each to his own style. None are actually not chopping wood and carrying water; I think that is how the one who knows ultimately sees it.
D: Average is in danger of turning into a harmless one-trick pony, unless he takes these things on board and progresses to the next level.

Good for him that you are around. I think he acknowledges that in another thread.

Heaven gives us instincts towards rightness and virtue - has no moral laws.
