Re: Any More Aphorisms?
A lie is when being valued by the feminine is a drive that both prevails and has requirements appearing to exceed the resources of honesty

There's this bizarre observation that goes against ordinary intuition: the bigger the lie, the bigger the chance it goes unnoticed or remains unchallenged. The biggest lie contains not only too much absurdity to handle, it's also so completely alien and such a bold reversal or perversion of truth that admitting to its very existence would already have us doubt all that has been done and said before. So the price becomes too high to start doubting. And because of this many conscious and unconscious liars have gotten away with the greatest lunacies, counting on the severe discomfort people experience contemplating the absurd or unrestricted ruthlessness so near by.

Yeah, definitely. With lies, there is a certain kindness and restrictedness offered, for those who find the truth intolerable.Diebert van Rhijn wrote:the price becomes too high to start doubting. Re: Any More Aphorisms?
diebert,
But then, in a moment of truth, he revealed the state of Africa prior to colonialism. It was practically identical to what it is like now. Colonialism did not make Africa worse: the entire continent stayed largely the same. All this vocabulary is misleading. The only "problem" with Africa, as far as I can tell, is it is not actually developing into Europe. Three hundreds years of colonialism has proved one thing: it is not changing. The Third World, therefore, is not comprised of "developing nations"....
You should see this book I'm reading about African Politics. The guy's discussing all the theories that have been provided in the West for African poverty -- all these huge circles of bullshit. There's this bizarre observation that goes against ordinary intuition: the bigger the lie, the bigger the chance it goes unnoticed or remains unchallenged.

About africans...
They are all too excited about complaining the past colonialism and especially slavery, which is in a way all right and well. What they will always conveniently forget, though, is that ruthless slavery was always present in Africa before that time, and it was their own people who actually reared and captured the slaves and did business selling them to colonial masters.

tooyi: indeed. Africans complain about things that they were not able to resolve on their own. That they'd be able to resolve it now -- as if by magic -- is completely foolish.
If the continent was brimming with McDonald's, there'd be fewer genocides. But I don't think there's enough raw material, manpower, and infrastructure for a McDonald's Project. So yeah, this is as good as it's going to get.

Cory,
William Tordoff - Gov't and Politics in Africa
It's so hum-drum and uncontestedly average that, with 2 other books, it's used as a text for a 3rd-year African Studies course. Which gives it the interesting position of being full of shit from bottom to top. There's a definite po-mo, left-leaning, pseudo-Marxist bias that the author has a hard time trying to cover up in an attempt to be objective; as far as I can tell, the author is a well-educated and entitled Westerner who can't help but criticize "Western values", as though African values are somehow on the same playing field. The hypocricy we all know and love: if this guy was actually consistent with his values, he would not have had the time -- let alone ideological bent -- to write this book.
