Aussie Open
Re: Aussie Open
I actually like anonymity because I don't want people from real life to google my name and find out where I hang out on the web. The more info people have of me, the easier it is for them to do something criminal to me.

Re: Aussie Open
I tend to associate privacy with being introverted and anonymity with being extroverted. Those are just perceptions, but I would say I prefer anonymity to privacy slightly, even though now I'm pretty much living in the middle of nowhere (speaking in real life, not online).

Re: Aussie Open
Federer was ousted at the Aussie Open in the semifinals, only about 15 minutes ago. Why is this important? because he has dominated the game of tennis on the men's side for the past 4 years. For people unfamiliar with tennis, there are four major tournaments each year. Wimbledon, Aussie Open, U.S. Open, and French Open. The French Open is played on clay, and Federer hasn't won that one, but the other 3 he has won all of them for the past 3 years, and he has won Wimbledon 5 years (maybe 6 years) in a row. The loss, which I happened to wake up to catch the end of at 7am, was perhaps a major turning point for the game, as the person who beat him, Djokivich, is younger, and he has been trying to beat Federer in a Grand Slam tournament for a while. Federer is still young, and he will likely break Pete Sampras's record for most Grand Slam victories in a career(just not this time). He has 12 currently, which is 2nd all time to Sampras's 14.

Re: Aussie Open
Note to all that the Women's final is at 9:30 est, probably on ESPN. Unfortunately, my girlfriend, Hantachova, has been eliminated, so it is Sharapova (5th seed) versus 4th seed(I forget her name, but she's not bad looking either). I'm going for the 4th seed over Sharapova, hopefully I can remain awake for that match, since it doesn't start until 10:30 my time. You should tune in, remember this is a big event out of Melboune, Australia!
Re: Aussie Open
Dude. Sharapova all the way. Not only is she a babe, but at her best she's awesomely unbeatable. Did you watch her win her first title at Wimbledon a few years back? Un-be-lievable display of indomitable power and skill. I don't even know her opponent but she can't possibly be as cool as Maria.snow bunny wrote:I'm going for the 4th seed over Sharapova

Re: Aussie Open
Do you pick that match up in Tasmania? I think her opponent is Serbian (Johonovich or something like that), we should make it interesting and come up with a wager on the match. Give me the one with black hair, and you can have Sharapova. Sharapova makes too much noise every time she hits the ball, so I will have to mute the match, or at least turn it down very low. three cheers for #4 seed. I guess the game starts around noon in Melbourne, which would be prime time for me, but now I will be staying up past my bedtime I guess.. Let me know if you have a wager in mind for the match (like you could get naked and run around the message board if sharapova loses.)Laird wrote:Dude. Sharapova all the way. Haha, you don't have to win a bet against me to convince me to do that - I get nude at the drop of a hat.snow bunny wrote:Let me know if you have a wager in mind for the match (like you could get naked and run around the message board if sharapova loses.)
Just kidding.
Sort of.
Buns, I'm gonna decline your offer of a wager but only because I can't think of an appropriate penalty for the losing party. Can you?

What was wrong with my suggestion? yeah, you are prob. right that we could just skip that idea, but still I am excited to find another tennis fan on the message boards here. I notice you post a lot, so maybe I will look into what your message is, if at all possible.

Re: Aussie Open
I have a sneaking suspicion that Sharapova is going to win anyway, so I will cowardly back out of the initial proposition. plus, I think you would come up with something that wouldn't be all that tasteful to the loser (ie. me).Dan Rowden wrote:If you need a third party to decide on that let me know.

Re: Aussie Open
A tasteful penalty is surely a contradiction in terms.

Interesting that there could even be a penalty, considering that everything is digital here.Dan Rowden wrote:A tasteful penalty is surely a contradiction in terms.

Hey, there's still over an hour to go before the match, and if Laird will agree to it, so will I.

Okay, thanks for humoring me :)
Phew! Bet's off because the match starts in 10 minutes.
Laird, I guess this one is just about the bragging rights this time.

Re: Aussie Open
OK, bragging rights it is then. Ah, the match has started! I'm off to enjoy it... later gang.
Re: Aussie Open
Seriously, Laird? You watch sports?
I shall demote your image on my totem pole for this! :p

Dude, turn it on - it's a great match so far. Not looking too good for buns right now. Still, fat lady and all.
Re: Aussie Open
How'd ya like that first set?? Looks to me like we've got a bun on the run!

Well skin that bunny and skewer him on a spit - I'm having roast rabbit tonight! Buns, your meat is mine!
Well well well, buns, well well well. Looks like my gal had all the fire-power after all huh? The Serb didn't know what hit her.
Damn, but how good was that eh? Two attractive, sportilly dressed, skillful women battling it out in the sun. I do love confident women with healthy egos. What a way to spend an hour or two hey?!
And Nat, now that I've got time to answer your question properly: I'm no junkie, but yeah, I do watch sports every now and then. Tennis is my favourite to watch. Think of it like this: you enjoy the parry and thrust of a good old-fashioned debate on an internet forum, right? Well, it's not much different watching a tennis match: parry and thrust, strategy and skill - it's a joy to watch.

Re: Aussie Open
I guess Wile e. Coyote got the best of Bugs Bunny, or maybe it's Elmer Fudd this time! Good thing all I lose is my pride, and I will live on to fight another day. I actually didn't watch it, because I was exhausted, went to sleep. I will try to catch the encore performance today, and give a little more of the details of the grunts and groans of the two beauties. I have Croatian heritage, so I should have been rooting against the Serb anyway! Djokovich (men's finalist) is also Serbian, and I think I want him to win too, but that match is at about 3am, so I probably won't be up for that one either.
After all this chat, now I want to actually get out on the tennis courts, but that might have to wait until the spring time (also, I am terrible.)
