Causality: The 5th Dimension

Post by Steven Coyle »

Time is an illusion created by the mind: Causality is equally an illusion created by the mind. Logically both are dependent on one another for their existence. Without causality, the concept of time would be null. Therefore it is safe to say that causality is also a dimension.

The 5th dimension.

As such, time travel is the ability to utilize causality, both backwards and forwards. While the ability to see into the future is only recognizable after the fact, it is still dependent upon causality for its existence. For the existence of traveling through time via retro-cognition, first an established variable must be "produced" in spacetime. In this sense, pre- and retro- cognition, are both reliant upon the uninterupted continuum that is casuality.

Sorry? What's your 4th dimension?

I guess Steven meant time as 4th.

There are some logical problems with a statement like that.

The dependency is also a manifestation of causality, by definition. So you're invoking causality to suggest a link between time and causality. But that doesn't seem to say much at all, one could link anything to anything with causality, it doesn't imply a dimensional link.

Time is a direction. Without a time-space frame of reference, without change, one couldn't observe any process of causality. So if you want causality to be a higher dimension, why not equal it with time?

The direction is cause->effect or past->future. Where's the exact difference? One could say an effect might via feedback affect its original cause but the counter-argument could be made that it already seized to be the original cause, for starters it 'moved' in time and place, for all we know.

What many scientists forget is the functioning of the mind in determining spatial dimensions. Since the mind is the tool used to observe, I think it's safe to say that dimensions 1-3 are used as creative matter for dimensions 4 and 5 - time and causality respectively.

I bumped it up a dimension because it's easier for the mind to visually and logically separate the two when mentally moving through time.

What about effect -> cause / cause -> effect?
