David's Birthday
David's Birthday
Check this out. Now it should probaly go in the Wordly Matters Sinbin - but i wanted to put it on the same forum as the Balance thread.
I got a book from the library the other day called "The Secret Language of Birthdays". Why, well because I have been getting the feeling that there is something to this astrology crap. They call it Personology, but if it is based on birthdays then it has to mostly Astrology.
It is not a feeling I wish to have - I find it somewhat embarassing. I just get the feeling there is slightly more than 50% accuracy and relevancy in some of the real astrology stuff, not the stuff in the papers. More even than could be explained than by the abstractness or generality of the wording, or that what they say is can be made to be significantly relevant to the majority of people, because most of us are genetically/instinctually similar or experience similar things.
I noticed David's birthday on the psychologist's report he posted in the Balance thread, referred to the book for curiosity and typed up word for word what it said.
When you read this, I think you need to consider that David was caused to seek answers to reality at a younger age than average, and he has a high IQ. Much of what they say seems to apply to an average individual, and would apply to someone who had not already turned to philosophy. Try and imagine a young David who had not already discovered philosophy. Take something like his essay on femininity. Firstly only a person who knew femininity deeply could write such a work [see the 2nd sentence under the Tarot section, which at first glance would seem to be the opposite of David], secondly, when something you desire or a personality trait you have, gives you emotional pain, a persons reaction to it is to seek out and develop the opposite desire and traits. So even though some of the comments may seem completely opposite to David now, that may be because he has already reacted to this and created the opposite in himself - a masculine mind for instance.
You also need to consider that whoever wrote it, will have also interpreted things in a herd based fashion, as is "what advice should we give this person so that he will fit well into the herd". They would have had little inkling of what it would mean to be enlightened by rationality, which is probably why they use the term "earthbound" a bit. A term like spiritually to them means wishy washy stuff, like Astrology for example :)
Relevant to the spin above, I just find it to be amazingly close to reality. I mean of all the different attributes people can have, why did it strongly highlight these particular one's. Come on, don't you find it just a little bit mysterious.
Persons born on the July Thirtieth - The Day of Tangible Presence.
Those born on July 30 make their presence felt in a very physical fashion indeed. Not only are they individuals of substance but they also have a sense of how material aspects of life operate. The solid, sturdy people born on this day dwell on the earthly plane, which is their dominion, and it may be hard to convince them that they should develop their spiritual side. Taken up with the here and now, with the energy of doing things, they do not specialise in introspection or philosophical detachment.
Most often, July 30 people express their thoughts and creativity in a very forceful and or sensuous manner. Yet, in their later years, they are often more open to the consideration of metaphysical questions. One reason for this is that the subject of death is an extremely difficult one for July 30 people to handle. On the one hand they find it hard to believe in an end to their existence, and on the other equally difficult to have faith in an immortal soul. A n I interest I religion and philosophy will often surface in them after their second Saturn return (around age 56), opening up a whole new dimension in their lives. Until that time they will continue on their extremely programmatic, earthbound course.
The subject of love may also be painful for those born on this day. Many July 30 people find it difficult to reconcile "pure" love with physical needs and desires and consequently seek unusual, odd and out-of-the-way expressions for their feelings. Their difficulty I finding a satisfying "normal" and straightforward love relationship may also awaken a powerful fantasy life, leading them into perilous situations. Some 30 July people unfortunately become resigned to the fact that true love is out of reach, an impossibility to achieve. Those that allow such as admission to colour their general outlook with a cynics cast can become arrested in their personal development.
Physical activities of all kinds interest July 30 people. Even more delicate, less robust men and women born on this day generally display a marked interest in sports, the human body, beauty pageants and modelling, and all types of glorification of the human form. This interest can be highly aesthetic and artistic or merely common and vulgar.
July 30 people find it extremely difficult to deal with irrational fears and phobias and can be bewildered by terrors that surface unexpectantly. They are often unequipped to cope with such anxieties unless they have previous mental of spiritual training to fall back upon.
However, such irrational experience c can arouse their curiosity about what lies behind objects of the apparent physical world around them. This can be just the impetus to develop an interest in spiritual matters. Challenge-orientated, they will want to overcome their fears and conquer their weaknesses, which can lead to real personal growth. Rather than feeling out of touch, which they hate more than anything, they may seek a deeper understanding of life.
Numbers and Planets
Those born on 30th of the month are ruled by the number 3, and by the planet Jupiter. Since those ruled by the number 3 often seek to rise to high positions in their sphere, July 30 people may well be driven toward financial and material success. Those ruled by the number 3 love their independence, and tend to be decisive. Jupiter lends an optimistic and expansive social outlook to July 30 people, strengthened, with a vitality and courage derived from the Sun. unfortunately, those born on this day may be unduly optimistic about their future and ill-quipped to handle or even recognise failure.
Tarot
The 3rd card of the major
Arcana is the Empress, symbolising creative intelligence. She is the perfect woman, the ultra-feminine, Mother Earth nurturer, who is our dreams made real, our hopes and aspirations embodied. This card carries the positive traits of charm, grace and unconditional over, the negative aspects of vanity and affectation, as well as intolerance for perfection.
Health
Those born on this day usually show a preoccupation with their bodies, either they flaunt them or are self-conscious and try their best to cover up. Some of the physically repressed people born on this day may manifest hypochondriacal tendencies. As parents, July 30 people may put undue emphasis on the physical aspects of life, neglecting emotional, intuitive and mental qualities. In their interactions with their own age group, they may oddly enough suffer from repressed aggression, as if they are afraid that if they release negative feelings, they will lose control. Needless to say, regular exercise and varied forms of sensuous and sexual expression are important for July 30 people. Massage, shiatsu, yoga, music, sculpture - all tactile forms of expression are suggested as hobbies. Overheating may prove to be a problem for July 30 people. Cravings for excess protein and sugar may be periodically indulged, but have to be kept under control.
Advice
Try to see beyond the material world. Develop your mental facilities. Open yourself up to deeper emotional contact and new experiences that can change you. Cultivate an interest in metaphysical subjects.

My birthday the 25th May said
The Day of the Bold One
Whatever their degree of sophistication [not much sophistication here, but I think I do try and form sophisticated responses to people - been told to write less detail at work] - May 25 people are fighters [I think that is true, I'm pretty aggressive, at times - I piss my managers off because I fight for what I believe, which isn’t the public service way].
They may be devoted to protecting a cause, an idea, their country or family [yep an idea - my TOE theory], their country [on another forum I am always whinging about politics and things like immigration - this is desire to protect my country], my family [not much their but I did once suggest taking baseball bats to a 42 year old "friend" who started dating a 18 year old niece who he had known from when she was a small child].
Yet in no way are they archaic or conservative in their beliefs, remaining up to date in their attitude towards the world. [I reckon I've never grown up - gosh I even watch Manga which is made for teenagers. I'm not old fashioned, but my moral based expectations of others often are].
Those born on this day value money, clothes, all the outward trappings of life, but they understand that they are merely the façade of a deeper spiritual life within [yes, but I still value them, I'm occassionally ever so jealous of fine houses filled with nice things like pretty women].
Above all they recognise that freedom from tyranny, both for the individual and the group, is of the highest importance. [yep, the concept of freedom is huge for me. I detest religions like Islam because of this factor]
Since those born on this day are attuned to the rhythms of the world around them they are able to survive social change, sometimes going with the flow, sometimes removing themselves [have removed myself socially, but still go to work, must have those trappings].
Their friends and family will find that they are charming and agreeable only to a point, however. [lol, ever seen me drunk - I usually offend] They will never compromise their opinions, even if it makes them unpopular. [yep, I often go over my bosses heads to get my opinion heard].
May 25 people are philosophically orientated. [this was not so much the case in my younger days. I did like science fiction and fantasy which often contains philosophical elements, liked arguing about religion and so on]
They have clear ideas on a wide range of subjects, and these ideas are usually part of a larger, more universal code. [yep, I extremely opinionated, and will talk about stuff I know little about. I guess I'm only now starting to develop a real universal type code though, before it was more a moral one]
This may be a code of conduct or belief, or both. Not only do those born on May 25 hold themselves to this standard, but may expect everyone else to follow it as well. [gees yeah]
Those born on this day can be extremely unforgiving to those who cross the lines of decency. [yep I will have go at them even when it won’t achieve anything].
Honour and personal responsibility are immensely important to them, and their expectations are correspondingly high. [yeah, I'm big on personal responsibility but I'm afraid it doesn't equate to personal discipline, Two faced Gemini I suppose the writer would say].
They must learn, however, to be more forgiving and tolerant in their treatment of others. [life would be so much easier, I might even have friends - not that I want any now.]
May 25 people are not just mentally orientated, but markedly physical as well. [this is not so true for me. I am not physically active but sedimentary. My philosophy is strongly materialist though. In addition, I feel more sensitivity than average to things affecting my body - smells tastes, skin sensitivity - though less in recent times - probably clogged arteries]
Unfortunately their emotional side may be repressed or, if damaged in childhood, severely blocked. [pretty sure mine was. There are a few things here, mum was a bit negative, fought with my brother a lot, 6 younger kids probably missed parental attention, etc, but I think the major stumbling block in my later teens was a sunken chest and small flaccid dick, and the resulting fear of being thought of as weak and lacking masculinity. It just prevented me from the feeling of physical freedom to do masculine things].
They value affection but find it both difficult to express and accept. [ I do]
Since their self-trust is not the highest, they may also be loath to trust others. [I don't on personal matters, except my brother tyo some extent]
Whatever they do - be it in art, sport, sex, or work - is beautifully crafted or executed but unfortunately can also lack feeling. [ I didn't really develop many avenues for expression, that which I think I have crafted well has tended to be of the written variety, but only when I've wanted to impress. I always tried to make whatever I wrote to friends or girlfriends interesting and imaginative. I am not so inclined these days, couldn't be bothered impressing people, and my written work has become pretty crappy]
Indeed some born on this day take pride in themselves as cool personalities who are not given to displays of emotion. [I'm quite emotional and I display it often on the forum. It almost always takes alcohol though. I hate displays of emotion in others, except if it is related to something humorous. I used to be pretty cool in a laid back sense, and was a stirrer at school. Would also have a go at mates who were being emotional].
What those born on May 25 must constantly fight is their fear of rejection. Learning to be less fearful in general is important for them, no matter how forceful they may seem on the outside.
[that's me to a tee. I've always had a lack of self-confidence, which produces fear. These days, I have almost no ability to change myself, to rid myself of bad habits like smoking and drinking - this takes courage]
Building a foundation of self-confidence, perhaps slowly over the years, will guarantee them success in the world and keep them from sabotaging their own plans. Those born on this day must find a way to live with their code of ethics without paralysing themselves in introspection or self-criticism; their ideals should find expression in pragmatic ways. Otherwise, May 25 people run the danger of becoming unrealistic about what they believe and a bit out of touch with their true needs. [I'm the most self-depreciating person at work, by a long, long margin. I partly use it as a counterbalance to my aggressiveness, it gives people an out]
Numbers and Planets
Those born on the 25th day of the month are ruled by the number 7 and by the planet Neptune. Because Neptune is the watery planet ruling visions, dreams and psychic phenomena, losing touch with reality poses a danger for May 25 people, particularly as far as the feelings of others are concerned. [shit yeah. The more knowledge I obtain about the vicious, ego driven nature of the human world, and I seek to understand reality, the less emotionally stable I am becoming, at times, but the more stronger and confident I am becoming at other times -which will win :) ]
Those ruled by the number 7 traditionally like change and travel, and this causes no conflicts for May 25 people, who generally enjoy a frequent change of scene.
[I have to have constant change in some aspects, get so bored with repetition, and enjoy positive change a lot. Don’t have the discipline to stick at anything for more than 3 years, except philosophy, which is form of entertainment and stimulation. I am not much of a traveller in any way, but if I do I don't stay in the one spot.
Tarot
The 7th card of the Major Arcana, is the Chariot, which shows a triumphant figure moving through the world, manifesting his physical presence in a dynamic way. The card may be interpreted to mean that no matter how narrow or precarious the correct path, one must continue on. The good side of this card posits success, talent and efficiency, the bad side suggests a dictatorial attitude and a poor sense of direction.
[love to be a dictator. One of my fantasy dreams. Sense of direction - don't have any at all]
Health
May 25 people usually have very developed ideas about their health, particularly their diet. For this reason it is difficult to give them advice on the subject. [yeah, I never listen though]
Those born on this day have a need for affection which is belied by a cool exterior. [yep]
Those few people who can approach them emotionally not only bring much-need warmth but can also make suggestions regarding their sleeping and eating habits, and function as a mirror of objectivity. [haven't had, or done anything to seek, a girlfriend for so long I don’t know if this is true or not. Do feel like I need a female taskmaster though, I need to be prompted into action. I also should be getting more than the 5 hours of sleep I normally get]
Low-key personalities born on this day need to be pushed a bit to express themselves. Such expression whether in the form of creativity or simply conversation, reduces the propensity here for psychological frustration. [this would have been good advice in my young days - too late now. I don't talk much to folks at work, not a chatterer. Forums have taken over this role]
Advice
Work very hard on being less judgemental and more forgiving, Think things out carefully before setting out your path; avoid rash or angry decisions. Being cool is not always the coolest thing to be - recognise the value of being vulnerable and emotionally open.
[I found in Thailand recently, that I was not really able to get into the night life and enjoy myself hedonistically. I'm not able to make myself vulnerable to others and thus the social emotional spirit does not arise, going out even to see things like temples, ends up as being unstimulating. I probably would have been fucking some bar girl most night if it wasn't for this. At the same time in this regard there was a huge conflict with my intuitional moral code and I also had feelings they were stuck as slaves to the tyranny-of-poorness, which made me feel sad]
Mediation cue: Discovering another person's sexuality can be like learning a foreign language. [lol, I discovered Asian porn not so long ago - does that count :)].
Strengths: Idealistic, Tough, Adaptable.
Weaknesses: Judgemental, Intolerant, Unrealistic.

Well, at least that part is probably accurate. Considering that 50% accuracy is statistically equivalent to random when the options are "right" or "wrong" and that enough of the astrology stuff is written vaguely enough that one can read certain things as right or wrong depending how you look at it, and people looking for accuracy are more likely to interpret things as being accurate, that would account for the "slightly more than" aspect.Jamesh wrote:I just get the feeling there is slightly more than 50% accuracy and relevancy in some of the real astrology stuff
Although our numeric birthdays are one day different, considering the time difference equates to a date difference between the US and Austrailia, it could be said that my birthday is the same as that of one of the QRS. Based on just that information and your astrological beliefs, can you guess whose birthday that is?

Re: David's Birthday
Proper astrology is a science like any other. Proper study of it is a lifetime endeavor. Btw, one must take into account not only birth date, but time and location. I speak not as an astrologer, or even astrology buff; I am actually neither, but my father has worked with it for many years.Matt Gregory wrote:Do you watch a lot of television, by chance?Jamesh wrote:I got a book from the library the other day called "The Secret Language of Birthdays". I read somewhere once that there is some basis for it based on if you're born in the winter you're going to be almost a full year older than other kids when you start school, and thus bigger and probably better in PE - this gets nurtured and you wind up increasing this because it is what is nurtured. Anyway this was based on a study of the birthdates of olympic soccer players but there are probably similar things out there.David Quinn wrote:What is the intellectual basis for it? October 1st
The Day of the Top Dog
More often than most, those born on October 1 are likely to wind up at the top of their profession, social circle or family structure. This is generally due less to their pushiness or aggressiveness than to their ability to function and maintain a far-reaching outlook on life. Others seem to realise the exceptional abilities of those born on this day and this last point can sometimes pose a dilemma, as October 1 people may not have a lot of ambition. Indeed functioning at the top can put an enormous strain on them, mostly psychological, which they can find difficult to handle.
The problems encountered by Oct 1 people usually centres on their careers. For example, it can take years of struggle for them to reach an elevated social position, only to find that it isn’t quite what they expected. Part of the reason for this is that they tend to be very serious individuals who may not take enough joy in their successes. Indeed, they can be plagued by those problems presented by their work which they are unable to solve - this is not particularly helped by their perfectionist tendencies which find it hard to leave things alone. Yet, through the difficulties they encounter, many born on this day demonstrate a marked ability to learn and ultimately to progress in their personal development.
As far as interpersonal relationships are concerned, October 12 people usually seek out involvements with highly capable and decisive individuals, but often those who do not have high personal goals of their own. Undeniably, those born on this day will chose a mate who can both help and understand their need to further themselves. The emotional support of such a person is generally crucial to the success of their endeavours.
Generally Oct 1 people are very idiosyncratic and only know how to operate in their own peculiar way. However, because the results of their efforts are most often impressive, they will be taken seriously and ultimately even emulated by admirers. When these unique individuals are seen working, or perhaps shown in a photograph with peers, they will often look out of place or unusual. They are indeed atypical members of their profession, due to both their unorthodox methods and working philosophy. They may come under constant criticism, much to their discomfort, if they focus on their work to the exclusion of important alliances and company politics.
Many Oct 1 people learn what they know not from formal schooling but from experience. Their professionalism is beyond reproach, and they generally appear polished, self-confident, honest and above all, dignified. Oct 1 people usually win the love and respect of others, even if it takes years. They are greatly missed when they are no longer around, and are spoken of fondly by the same people who thought less of them previously.
Numbers and Planets
People born on the 1st like to be first. Those ruled by 1 are typically individual, highly opinionated, and eager to rise to the top. Oct 1 people may have mixed feelings about their role in life, but usually have the stamina and concentration to hang in there, regardless of frustrations or confusion. The sun symbolises strong creative energy and fire, which is best kept flowing steadily rather than allowed to sporadically flare out of control. The combination of Venus and the Sun lends a romantic and idealistic aura to Oct 1 people.

Over his head is an infinity symbol, …… Many interpretations may be drawn, one of which is that the Magician recognises the cyclical and unending nature of life and is empowered by this understanding. The positive traits suggested by this card include diplomatic skill and shrewdness but, negatively, lack of scruples and opportunism. The choice rests with an Oct 1 person to settle for superficiality and illusion or strive for more worthy ends.
Health (1 part only, sick of typing)

Weaknesses: Crisis-prone, Indecisive, Aloof.

David: What is the intellectual basis for it?
Curiosity mainly. It is also irritating that I might be deluding myself.
What connects these dates to a person's character?
Nothing that I know of.
Potential causes:
Some individuals have always noted the traits of important people. In villages of the past noting the traits of people would have been something of interest to most. Their worlds were a lot smaller, they had less to entertain themselves so they made their own, one of which was to discuss about other peoples characters, it would be a useful survival tool, not just entertainment. At first it may have been just noticing commonality between people born during certain seasons, or star patterns, that slowly developed into more precise periods of time. Just as science accumulates knowledge about things so too can individuals about other people. People who displayed skill in this character assessment may sometimes have come under the notice of leaders, and been used to record details of potential opponents. This information would have been passed from generation to generation and eventually analysis became "relatable" to birth date and time.
In other words, individuals were caused mostly by subconscious empirical evaluation, to notice similarities in patterns of character, that were eventually communicated from one person to others. If they were caused to notice similarities and the acceptance of these similarities have stuck over time, then it may be slightly more likely that they stick on due to a partial factual basis than simply that people love stories.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) it is not worth the immense effort that would be required for me to personally assess the degree of accuracy (particularly as a lot of people don’t really know themselves, their ego prevents them from doing so) . I do not necessarily trust the studies performed by others in this matter (although probably I should).
From the materialists perspective, I regard conception as being of too high of level to mean much empirically. Relative to this topic and in terms of traces causes back, I don't limit causal possibilities to just DNA reactions, but the underlying reactions in each molecule of DNA. I don't find this unreasonable, DNA mutation must be often caused by that which is more fundamental being altered from what evolution has caused to be consistent across a species. This being the case, then gravitational and magnetic forces that surround the earth at different times of the year could cause a different foundational pattern, from one person to another, to come into existence, at the time of conception or the "awake" mental state at the time of birth. Evolution in complex beings has caused to exist a large variety in character. Even dogs have character. Differences in character are a boon to survival (for the most part) as it causes advancement through competition.
There is a range of feeling for each emotion and emotions flow into each other, in a set order, just like a colour chart. Emotions aren't that distinct - our definitions are limited. Hate may be tinged with envy, hate or happiness comes in degrees, and so on. There is evidence that some character traits are not entirely caused by experience post birth, in which case they may be genetic, or pregnancy nurture (hormones etc), or they may be something else. That something else could be the effect of gravity changing the foundations of certain parts of DNA that lead to brain or hormonal development. If the foundations are changed then different forms can be the outcome. Evolution has caused animals to have timing switches in the brain. Could it also have been able to provide for variety by having a gravitational/electromagnetic switch as well, that ends up changing an animals or persons personality when young. If the switch is triggered "on the stars", or the degree of alignment of planets and perhaps distant galaxies, which produces differing gravitational pulls, rather than or inn addition to seasonal factors like temperature then the foundations can be made quite varied regardless of where one lives on earth.
What is changed could be a couple of simple factors, for example it may produce X amounts of testosterone at certain times of conception (probably in a wave fashion across the months). Then at the time of birth or thereabouts, it may produce some other hormone that has a direct relationship to testosterone. The varying combinations of the two would provide ample scope for variation within each community of animals or persons.
That no such switch has been discovered does not mean that it does not exist. It might and it might not.
Curiosity mainly. It is also irritating that I might be deluding myself.

David, my dad's response to your question:Carl G wrote:CG: Proper astrology is a science like any other.
DQ: What is the intellectual basis for it? What connects these dates to a person's character?
CG: David, that is a good question. I will refer this to my dad and get back to you.
"Astrology is neuro/bio/science with sky-to-Earth resonances, a la "As above, so below." Fetuses get 'touched' by Earth's magnetic field which is influenced by Sun's magnetic stream which is not constant, but "modulated" by planetary interference. Sensitive fetal tissues record those electro-magnetic patterns, as well as the noises, language, music it experiences at home prior to birth . Correlations discovered between planetary positions and life patterns on Earth testify to patient and intelligent truth-seeking efforts of ancient and modern astrologer/researchers. Science, as we know, leads to prediction (repeatability).
"The first inhalation, after birth, causes lung tissue shock, from the novel contact with oxygen. Hence the baby's cry, that "landmark" astrolo-moment. Thus, astro-research points to "Man as Receptor of Cosmic Suggestion". Position cycles bewtween all planets (including Pluto) repeat about every 25,000 years. So, no two astrologically identical humans ever co-exist on Earth, not even 'identical' twins, born just minutes apart. Popular newspaper 'horoscopes' are therefore only a faint echo of serious astrology, a bit like aspirin ads in relation to the vast medical field. The greatest advance in astrolgy, this past century, is rooted in the precise work of Alfred Witte whose impact is world-wide. Re: David's Birthday
I was just chatting to a mad friend of mine, who partly beleives in astrology. He said something that made me do a google on my star sign. The first link I went to said the following
Spiritual Goal: To learn how to cooperate
Spiritual Correspondence: The Thrones
Apostle: James the Younger (my first name btw)
Prophet: Zecharia
Anatomy: Rules the arms, shoulders, lungs and nervous system
Corresponding Tarot Card: The Lovers
Associated Countries: United States of America, Switzerland and Wales
Associated Cities: London, Melbourne and San Francisco
Animals: Small Birds, Parrots, Magpies, Butterflies and Monkeys
Watchword: Versatility
Keynote: Variety
Physical Manifestation: Expansion or Contraction
Mental Manifestation: Joy or Sorrow
Motto: My Thoughts Are Winged
Quote: I Think
lol, I hate these little coincidences. Expansion and contraction in relation to the manner in which physical physically manifests itself, is something I've been continuosly harping on about for three years now.
