Re: George W. Bush - 8 years in 8 minutes
In the words of Gerald Ford, "our long national nightmare is over."
America has, at least temporarily, come to its senses and elected a qualified leader. How it will turn out remains to be seen, but it's got to be better than the mess we are leaving behind.

I initially didn't like Obama because he comes across as a Jehovah's Witness type (I can just imagine him riding his bike and knocking on the door to show me some Jehovah cartoon magazines). But since finding out that he is a big fan of science and is willing to invest heavily in the scientific community, even to the point of already being rebuked by the Pope, I've become a believer. For the time being, at least.

Thank god it's finally over.
Re: George W. Bush - 8 years in 8 minutes
I'm trying to find something about Obama I can get excited about, honestly, but there's just nothing there that makes him any different from other democratic politicians. Anything's better than Bush though.
Re: George W. Bush - 8 years in 8 minutes
Yes, it's on to the next manipulated spokesperson. At least we do not have to put up with the village idiot anymore. What an indictment of the system the last 8 years have been.

Please name a past president that impress you more.Nick Treklis wrote:I'm trying to find something about Obama I can get excited about, honestly, but there's just nothing there that makes him any different from other democratic politicians. Anything's better than Bush though.
Any wiser.
None in my lifetime.
Id say next closest may have been Reagan, a few notches down.
If his hands werent so tied much (more) could be accomplished, imo he has what it takes but unfortunately few others do and something is only as strong as its weakest part.
The country is thoroughly femenized, what can possibly come of that?
Sooner or later Barack's going to piss off the wrong gal, possibly a Repub newswoman will draw him into error and make as much as a spectacle about it as possible.
One way or the other the Repubs will (try to) take him down, these days its easier to disgrace important people rather than kill them, and no ones better at that shit than a woman. There are many Foxy enemies it will be a minefield, and when he least expects it.
The effort is ongoing and wil be deliberate and forever in force, he will never win these over no matter how nice he is or how effective. THESE are the true enemies of the state, they're right here among us and delay progress and correction stealthly and always.

Humm. Well thats a bit womanish of you now, isnt it, flip-floppy, as is placing undue importance on premature judgments, is it time already for a testosterone check?David Quinn wrote:I initially didn't like Obama because he comes across as a Jehovah's Witness type (I can just imagine him riding his bike and knocking on the door to show me some Jehovah cartoon magazines). It was in connection to Obama's plans for expanding stem cell research.

Yeah, well, rest of world, heh heh, sorry about the whole Bush thing.
The reason Bush got elected - and worse, re-elected - is because the majority of Americans are idiots. So, maybe it's some consolation that he destroyed America while destroying the rest of the world.
Obama, we hope, will be less of a thug and less of an all-around disaster. (Well, the bar is set pretty low there.) He's got a big mess to try to clean up.

Disagreed. There are enough idiots to have helped make this possible, but I believe that Bush became President, and got 8 years, primarily because of enough corruption to allow him to cheat his way into the White House, and sufficient emasculation of the populace that no one could do anything but piss and moan on the sidelines.DHodges wrote:The reason Bush got elected - and worse, re-elected - is because the majority of Americans are idiots.
Re: George W. Bush - 8 years in 8 minutes
The reason so many North Americans voted for Bush is that they agree with his imperialist policies. They love to invade other countries and the colonization that goes along with it. The only reason so many are against the Iraq occupation is that it has cost many North American lives. They could not care less about the damage they inflict upon other nations, as long as they don't have to pay a high cost in their own lives.
As much as I hate McCain, I admit he is smart enough to recognize this. When confronted about why he was ok with a 100 year occupation of Iraq, he replied that North Americans would be happy with it, as long as it was not costing their own lives.
There is no moral dimension to why many who voted for Bush were not happy with him the day he left. Proof of this is that many more people hate Bush 43 than Bush 41.

MSNBC: Roberts and Obama seal deal, with a stumbleDan Rowden wrote:I wonder if the guy who swore him in still has a job today.
MSNBC wrote: Obama was one of 22 Senate Democrats to vote against Roberts' confirmation to the Supreme Court in 2005 — the first time a Supreme Court justice has sworn in a president who voted against him.
As president, Obama will try to use any Supreme Court vacancies to counter Roberts' influence, either by replacing aging liberals with justices as young as or younger than Roberts or by changing the court's balance if a conservative justice retires unexpectedly.

Federal judge refuses to take the addendum "so help me God" out of the Presidential swearing in, even though it is not a prescribed part of the Constitution.
The article says that Obama said that he wanted to have that part left in, but I suspect that was a political move to appease the Christians (since there are so many of them in America) and thwart some of the accusations that he is Muslim.

The big difference between 08 and 00 is that this time, the guy with the most votes got sworn in.
Bush and Cheyney, especially Cheyney, are war criminals. Part of me wants to get on with things and not dwell on the last eight years. But as a nation, America will be cleaning up the legacy of that time for the foreseeable future, like just another nanny in the life of George W.
