George Galloway - warrior-hero-interlectual

Post by zarathustra »

The fascist arseholes in here should learn from this great man, in whose shadow they are less than maggots...

Galloway is a force of nature. He sometimes goes off the deep end and says some pretty crazy things, but I can forgive him that. He's a lone voice standing up against a never-ending flood of bullshit, and that takes a certain type of personality.

Every neo-con politician should have to spend 30 minutes in a room with Galloway and a video camera.

yes...but his sense far outweighs his nonsense...yet I fear he's arrived too late. The neo-con/right-wing/media/intellectual nutters today ride rough shod over zombified Western populations, while their mirror images on the other side: suicide bombers/terrorists and so on serve to delegitimize genuine national resistence movements, not only in Irak, but all over the world...

Yep, pretty much.

Galloway represents something that has never had much traction in popular culture of any period - uncommon sense. People tend to prefer the "common" kind that is usually composed of various delusions, non-sequiturs, jingoisms, etc. I've never been a big fan of "common sense." I'm interested in something beyond the common sort of thinking that keeps getting us into these messes.

He was recently compared to Martin Luther King and Ghandi, and I fear he may suffer the same fate. Personally I think the human race is fucked. I mean, look at this site for example: a bunch of new age romantics playing their metaphysical fiddles while Rome burns - or in this case, the world.

I don't know that there are many new-agers around here, and while there are quite a few romantics, they are of the "renounced" variety. And in their minds, they aren't simply doing nothing while the world goes to hell. They are contributing in their own way, through their ideas - and whether they are right or wrong about the impact of it, that effort shouldn't be equated to doing nothing.

The majority of people are the ones who fiddle while Rome burns. They fiddle at jobs, in malls, or in front of television sets.

And for that matter, coming on to a forum where people are trying to do philosophical work and calling the inhabitants "fascist arseholes" and the like doesn't accomplish much, either. It's another form of fiddling.

Fascist arseholes are not the only people who visit this forum (I never said they were) but they do constitute a substantial minority. Don't 'assume'. As Russell once said 'think carefully before you write...'

Thanks for the advice. As a philosophy type, I normally write haphazardly with no forethought. Good thing you and Russell are around to save the day.

Get off yours first. In order to tell me I'm on a high horse, you have to be on a higher one. Otherwise, what right do you have to admonish me?

Think about that and get back to me when you understand it. :)

I think both of your horses are pretty high. May I suggest putting coffee grounds in the trough?

I fucken detest elitist pricks, who are content to sit on top of a pile of other people's shit pontificating aesthetics as the world burns. Truth: they need shit to sustain and support them, to feed their appetites, to enrich them (affluence counts) to give their miserable life some value, as something to 'liberate' themselves from...they are deniers, nihilists, and don't even know it. How ironic....

Is this because it's called "Genius Forum?" For the record, I really do wish they would change that and spare us the trouble.

Truth, courage, honesty, logic, mascalinity...bla, bla, bla, ad nauseum...are not necessarily prerequisite to genius, nor morality, philosophy, enlightenment, ethics....in fact, genius usually arises from their opposites...

After 10 years I think it may be a little late for that ;)

'who might that be...?'

Don't ask me. Look into your heart...the answer is there.

the road

the road stands out of time
and is what we all travel on
towards where we are going
from where we have been

the road offers no guarantees
allowing us to travel free
not knowing how far we have to go
before we reach our stop

the road winds and unwinds
around our bones marked
with significant milestones

things are born on the road
are wounded heal and die
grow old change hands
are bought sold coveted
discarded given away

and some no matter how
far they travel are dissatisfied
with where they are
and what is desiring
what might have been

some would like to stand
forever in a beautiful place
if only they sigh if only
and the road takes them forward
as they move back

others filled with passion purpose
and sensitivity embrace the new
and when it’s time to go leave
with sadness and an affectionate adieu!

My poem for you...
