Is there really anything we can call mental illness? Lets first define sanity, hard enough I can tell you!
Imagination I see as less differentiated thought, less disciplined, not yet cut into with the knife of our discernment. This way we can see it as raw material as well as a strong undercurrent to get lost in.

If we define sanity as full consciousness of Ultimate Reality and the absence of all delusion, then we are all mentally-ill to some extent. The moment we treat a non-existent thing as being existent and real, which most people do in every moment of the day, we enter into a form of mental illness.
But still, there is a big difference between a healthy, functioning human being and a schizophrenic or a DID sufferer.

Question For David Quinn
Hello David
If one were temporarily insane, and aimed to do something horrendous, would you say this person was fully conscious of his plot?

On Mental Illness
I detest that lable 'Mental Illness'
I refuse to go to any Mental Health Care place again, once is enough!
As soon as you walk in you get this eerie feeling that the Bozo's around - yes I'm talking about the staff - the other bozo's are probably to f....ked -up to notice you but those gals behind those desks are wondering whats wrong with her, and I can just hear their hen like cackle now.
I think that lable should be abolished, its down right insulting.
It should be changed to Brilliance Moment or anything other than this mental illness bullshit.
I realize my thoughts are rapid at times and I am a high energy person, and sometimes my ideas may sound a tiny bit odd and the only reason it sounds odd is because the mediocre-minded didn't think of it first.
Mental Illness, huh, I'm only messing with the medical field fooling them into thinking I have a mental illness, so that I don't have to go out and slave for a living, so that society as a whole can support me, I don't mind one little bit. So the question now is - is she mentally ill or not? Or is society her slaves? huh huh I could be redeemed as not being responsible for what I might could, want, or will say. So when I get seriously into writing my book, if any asshole decides to sue me for this or that, all I have to do is claim mental illness, so maybe I'll just hold onto this title for awhile. My mental illness is connected to geniusness and I know it regardless of what any boring Doctor could tell me. I think I'll write a book about Genius and use myself as the prime example, ah I just heard what you thought, there she goes again off on her genius tangent again.
Why don't you just admit it?

A. Imagination[/quote]
It's what society tells you it is .....along with 'right & wrong'.
Anything that varies by region / religion / etc has to be suspect.
I would define most of the people I know as metally ill (including myself).
Why do you put 'imagination' as your answer?

Hi Russ...Donna Here!
Hi Russ
Because I have a tremendous imagination I visualize things in my head, yet the Docs say I have Schitzo-affective disorder, which is treated with an anti-sychotic drug. I use to see things and hear things but that was 1O years ago, I'm fine now with this drug.
This drug blocks the dopamine neurotransmitter in my brain it was producing to much dopamine which was the culprit of my visions and sounds. I knew I was different since I was a kid. No one would ever know if I didn't tell them, people here don't know my business, I keep it to myself. As for the mental illness part, I just simply do not feel ill in any way. I look as normal as anyone.
But, I do get odd occasionally when it comes to speech in writing.
But, I'm not odd in any other way at all. I don't look odd, and I don't act odd in public.
Before I ever started taking this drug, I was unable to focus my attention, wasn't able to concentrate on any one subject. I was a retard. After the first initial dose, I experienced nomalacy for the first time, I'll never forget that day. I've been basically normal since.
People have been good here, they all know about my condition and have tolerated my oddness in speech at times.
As for my imagination I should be writing television scripts.
I correlate my imagination with this so-called mental illness.

I only asked because I do not see imagination as being related to mental illness. Hallucinations yes.... imagination no.
A good question would be "what's the difference?". For my part when I use my imagination I actively seek to create something......hallucinations are forced upon you.
I suppose the free will will aspect of imagination could aslo be a hallucination but then this would be a long post if I start down that route...
I also know a few people who wear the label "mental illness" as badge. Not entirely sure why but it seems to be used to excuse certain aspects of their personality.
The whole subject of mental illness is like everything else in life..... relative.
Anyway - thanks for your answer. You should write TV scripts if you want to.....it's got to be better than the current offerings.
Cheers,
Russ.

Hello Russ
Hi Russ
Yes, what you say makes sense. I don't really like to correlate my imagination with mental illness anyway. Its like admitting my imagination is mentally ill, and its not. To me mental illness is a real sickness in the head, confusion, delusional, detrimental repeated thoughts, in which case I have experienced but not anymore. Sometimes, I blab without thinking, I'm sure others have noticed this too. When I first came to the forum I was ducking shots, and shooting them back. But, I have since become more cordial towards people here. Now I can have reasonable dialog.
Nice talking with you take care
