All cycles are natural, man made or not. When and if the glaciers melt and flood half the human population to death that will be the NATURAL way of fixing the problem. If anything I look forward to the day when all hell breaks loose, and if humanity can't save itself it wont be because of logic, it will be because of too many people with their diluted emotions and petty attachments. Bring on Armageddon and lets seperate the men from the women!Elizabeth Isabelle wrote:Well, if the people who insist this global warming is just a natural cycle and we have been through it before are even close to right, perhaps the cave-dwellers were the only ones who survived the last global bake-off. Perhaps the caves of cave-dwellers were the abandoned mines of a lost civilization. Maybe thinking logically, rationally, and reasonably will lead us into the caves again, but if we go early enough this time to have time to bring manifestations of wisdom with us, we won't have to start from scratch this time.

You were not hard on the idea, you just didn't think you would like it. I think that a well planned underground community system could be done quite nicely and be very comfortable, but I do recognize that it is a radical idea. Since radical changes are taking place on the planet, a radical idea could be the only reasonable choice.
If even a philosopher such as yourself has such a negative reaction to the pod idea, obviously there would not be enough support from where the big dollars are to build such a thing. And no one wants to make a change that big unless we have to.
Although my house is far enough inland to not be in an evacuation zone, if the polar ice caps melt I'm not sure if this place would be under water or just oceanfront property. I don't need to be in Tampa for work anymore, yet I do like the convenience of a big city, so even though I'm planning to eventually move and have some radical housing ideas for myself, I don't want to rush into it. Just really initial planning phase including saving money. I really hate moving, though.

Shahrazad wrote:I go to funerals of (1) people I knew and loved in life, or of (2)people that were very close to someone I knew and loved. I do (2) for myself, not the dead. It helps me get some closure, and to face emotionally what I already intellectually know -- that they are gone.
One silly consequence of me not going to such funerals and seeing the dead body is to have recurrent dreams of this person still being alive.
I do (2) out of respect for the person I know, to let them know that I am sorry for their loss and available if support is needed.
I don't ever go to funerals out of a sense of duty. I just go to the ones I want to.
Shahrazad,
Happy 1st anniversary!

Tomas,
I think you must have made someone a good husband, at least by remembering anniversaries and birthdays.

It's written right under your avatar. That would be like a wife carrying a sign around her neck with her birthday and anniversary written on it.Shahrazad wrote:Tomas,

Reading the sign under my avatar is not the only thing Tomas did. He also searched for a thread that was opened on the day that I started posting. He might even have quoted my very first post at GF. That was somewhat less easy than reading the sign. It's written right under your avatar. That would be like a wife carrying a sign around her neck with her birthday and anniversary written on it.
