What do you make of crop circles?
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
Everyone I have ever met tells lies to support their ego. All politicans and religious people blatantly and constantly lie, to the point their memories/ego forget that they are liying or deceiving. Whole industries like advertising and finance are built almost entirely on deception.
I don't see why the crop circle makers or those who publicise anything supporting UFO evidence would be any different. Logic suggests that because some people have admitted to making these circles, there are far more who are not prepared to admit their falseness.

And do you still hold to the opinion that it is pixies and fairies who create crop circles? What exactly is the opinion that you have come to on this subject matter? :-PDan Rowden wrote:I see my goofy scoffing as entirely appropriate, frankly. Aliens giving us messages? I have none at this time, beyond the obvious fact that most crop circles are known human creations. Applying a Bayesian analysis to the issue leads to human creation. No other explanation makes any real sense. "Aliens" is baseless nonsense; one may as well believe in demons causing epilepsy.1456200423 wrote:And do you still hold to the opinion that it is pixies and fairies who create crop circles? Baseless nonsense, why? Because you, like Kevin, do not accept the possibility that extraterrestrials are visiting earth?Dan Rowden wrote:I have none at this time, beyond the obvious fact that most crop circles are known human creations. Re: What do you make of crop circles?
Er, no. What I meant was that belief in such is baseless, and it simply is. There's a big difference between belief and hypothesis. And I don't find the hypothesis credible anyway. Are some more basic crop circles the result of some hitherto unknown natural forces? That's possible, and more credible to me than aliens, given how weird the world can be, but there are issues with that too.
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
I'm surprised you consider the hypothesis that aliens may be visiting earth to be baseless, considering the body of evidence (government whistleblowers, civilian contactees, sightings of craft, etc). Is there a particular reason you discount all of that?

He is in fact quite blind in a number of areas, just a sock-puppet of the status quo.
I gave the explanation of crop circles, (being a result of sudden convulsions of accelerated gravity, in circular and spherical shapes, projected from the earths magnetic core)

Prince, are you saying these are energetic impulses purposefully wielded by a conscious entity (earth), or more or less random results of natural (unconscious) forces?prince wrote:Dan is not the genius he sees himself to be.Carl G wrote:I see Dan's goofy scoffing as somewhat sad, seeing how he sees himself as a genius and all.

Board moderator("Dan"), I request this thread be excused from general forum rule of "no posting of images", considering the subject matter deals mostly with images.
I could then attempt, more effectively provide support for my claims. :-)

Carl;
The earth is a conscious being, but not necessarily aware of what is on the skin, only partially aware. Like a dog is aware of its fleas.
The symbols have a meaning and purpose, they are imbued with consciousness. The earths core projects the symbols outward to the surface as, energy shapes. They are like human thoughts, they take shape and are projected out. the circles are earth "speaking" as such.

Re: What do you make of crop circles?
It was sad because a two year old thread was resurrected with nothing significant to add. I'm glad that a whole new thread was not created, so kudos for that.Carl G wrote:What chiefly do you see as sad about this thread, Elizabeth? I'm curious.
Actually, I like prince's theory best; not because I agree with it, but it shows good originality with a modicum of plausibility. Although the Earth does have a form of consciousness, I would not go so far as to compare it to a dog being aware of its fleas. Mineral intelligence would be vastly different from mammalian intelligence, but if we were to make a comparison, I'd say it's more like a mammal being aware of its germs. Although by now we have scientifically discovered that we are crawling with germs, and most of them are beneficial as long as they stay where they are supposed to be (for example, we need e.coli in our colons, but if we get it in our mouth, it could be a problem), we do not have a conscious awareness of each germ in or on our bodies. We also react to an overgrowth of germs, however much of our reaction is unconscious. We may get a fever or localized inflammation - and in response to that we may go to bed or wash the area with something, but most of our reaction is unconscious. Similarly, the Earth is getting a mild fever in response to our pollution.
As for the magnetic fields making these geometric shapes, I like that in its similarity to how snowflakes make some interesting geometric designs. Unfortunately, it does not explain how the magnetic pull would have more of an affinity for wheat, which is not normally so reactive to a magnet as automobiles. I would expect parking lot circles to be much more common. While it's true that cars are stiffer than wheat, and therefore more difficult to bend, I'd think that at least some antennas would go down. Perhaps a geometric formation would even appear in a town where every house has a television antenna.
Obviously at least some of the crop circles were made by people. Also, at least some of the crop circles do not have a (sorry prince) "iron" clad explanation. I also don't have an excellent explanation for David Copperfield's tricks, but I'm not ready to call him an alien.
It seems implausible that out of an infinite universe and infinite time, all of the intelligent life of any form is on Earth, but it is possible that we are. Humans do not like to be alone, so we may overestimate the possibility that there's intelligent life out there, and even if there is, overestimate the possibility that we might meet it. That said, it's also possible that there are aliens here amongst us now.
Altogether though, we are just talking about possibilities. We are not going to get any Absolute Truth or Ultimate Reality out of this, but it is a nice little thought exercise that could help someone along the path to Enlightenment, so - carry on.

The status quo is one of believing things in an absence of evidence and for poor, imagined reasons. I think I know which of us that fact places in the status quo.prince wrote:Dan is not the genius he sees himself to be.Carl G wrote:I see Dan's goofy scoffing as somewhat sad, seeing how he sees himself as a genius and all.

Now, where is your evidence that this nifty made-up explanation correlates to the phenomena it purports to explain?I gave the explanation of crop circles, (being a result of sudden convulsions of accelerated gravity, in circular and spherical shapes, projected from the earths magnetic core)
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
I have no interest in convincing you of anything, you have already made up your mind. You either get the circles or you don't.
I will say, thinking all crop circles are man-made (some of them are, because humans are relentlessly imitative creatures) is throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Re: What do you make of crop circles?
I'm not throwing anything out, I'm simply not letting baseless imaginings in. At last count, there were roughly 987,213,431 explanations for crop circles, most of which are probably as plausible as yours.
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
Dan, how many plausible explanations do you see?
A billion explanations? I can think of four possibilities, of which you might find two plausible: humans with boards and strings, humans (government) with high technology, aliens (including time travelers), the earth.

Re: What do you make of crop circles?
Board and strings strikes me as a strawman "explanation" (though it may be so for a few older, simple examples). The Earth works for me to some extent depending on what the actual explanation consists of - there are approx 446,986 of those. Time traveling aliens - er, no thank you. Government - can't see any basis or sense in that one.

Re: What do you make of crop circles?
Yeah, right. Aliens flitting around in the solar system contacted us by drawing shit in wheat fields rather than sending us a digital (or similar) message that we would recognize has having come from an extra-terrestrial source.
Please.
Please.
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
That's not much of an argument. Not that I am defending the aliens idea, but the question is not why would they, but why wouldn't they? (scrawl on wheat)
Perhaps they are more in tune with nature, have outgrown the childish thrill of technology.

Perhaps they are just arseholes. Add 1 more to that earlier figure I gave for how many explanations exist.
Re: What do you make of crop circles?
True.., maybe they just have a really fucked-up sense of humour and like to play good cop / bad cop with us gullible humans.
