Unbiased, accurate, to the point; I really can't say enough good things about these guys.

Sweet, bookmarked.

I was just thinking the other day that I should ask around for a better source of news. Getting really sick of some of the crap I've been seeing on huff post.

For a good selection of news and rational perspectives on the several global wars go to: www.antiwar.com

They might have a, not too overt, libertarian slant but it doesn't bother me as non-libertarian. There's not much of a competition out there that could compare in my view.

Wow, just checked out Huffington Post. What a cheesy tabloid site.

The Real News I've had bookmarked for some time but rarely go there. It may be better than the big box news services, but it doesn't plumb deep enough to the heart of matters. Its eyes may be somewhat open but its perception is still quite caught in the maya and miasma of the various political parties and systems and their points of view, many of which have no real legitimacy or relation to actual reality, a lot like National Public Radio. I did enjoy the Daniel Ellsberg video, if overly long for the punch it packed, so thanks for reminding me of the link.

Myself I don't find any one site to be the greatest source for all areas of current events. For example, for understanding and tracking the economy, pretty much the biggest story in the U.S. at the moment, not much beats Peter Schiff or Bob Chapman.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. It used to be better. They have two sections, "entertainment" and "style" which I notice are taking up more and more of the main page, which does render it very tabloidy. And then they have a panel of 'most popular' articles, which are usually trash, because people are trash. Other than that, there are some pretty good blogs. But admittedly, I usually just go there to see if Bill Maher has a blog up, because his are pretty funny. He's the reason I started going there.

Huffpo isn't all that bad. I really like Arianna and what she has to say, along with Bill Maher and many others I can't think of right now. The blogs are definitely the best part.

You're right, there are some smart blogs, and I like how they host highlight videos from the left wing talk shows (e.g., real time, daily show).

Check out Jon Stewart doing Glenn Beck

for those in Canada, you gotta go through the comedy network: Stewart does Beck

Yeah I seen that, it was classic! Jon Stewart has to be the wittiest guy on television.

Speaking of The Onion and Glen Beck...

Glenn Beck is funny with his conspiracy maps. Of course, with "six degrees of separation" and everything being causally interrelated, it follows that it would be rather easy to construct these maps. It doesn't take much free-thought to figure out where the likes of Alex and Glenn go wrong with their perceptions. I think paranoid, myopic and willfully ignorant captures their afflicted states pretty good.

Even homeopathic doctors occasionally admit that they don't think homeopathy works, but their fortunes are founded on the claims. Alex Jones and Glenn Beck make their living on their distorted perceptions as well. It is possible that neither one of them believes what they preach, its possible that they know its bullshit, but they can't bring themselves to sacrifice for truth. They are in too deep. A rope would have an easier time passing through the eye of a needle.

Willfully ignorant of what?
Even homeopathic doctors occasionally admit that they don't think homeopathy works
They do? All of them?

Yes, good to see Monbiot is on top of things.

'Canada's image lies in tatters' is a faily decent portrayal that the province of Alberta is running the economic engine, thanks to all that crude oil (tar sands, too). Saskatchewan and Manitoba also sit on a few large oil domes themselves, Bakken and Three Forks.

The truth about their claims.

Nope, not all of them, at least, not openly.

Most of it. For example Alex Jones will take a picture of G.W. Bush gesturing the Corna at a Texas Longhorns football game in Austin, Texas and claim that he is expressing his allegience to Molach or Baal. In-fact, the hand gesture has been in use since a cheerleader named Harley Clark introduced it during a pep ralley in 1955. The Texas Longhorns refer to the gesture as the "Hook'em Horns".

Alex Jones lives in Austin, Texas and is no doubt familiar with this, if he were not then he should have done his research! It doesn't take a genius to figure this one out, but look, Jones is not trying to figure it out, he's creating fear-hype around his product.

That was a good example, one with which I was previously familiar. Thanks for the clarification.

I also think that Alex Jones is onto something, but I think he has it conceptually wrong. Jones thinks there is an elite squad of wrong-doers who have planned the downfall of society since time immemorable. I don't doubt that there is a conspiracy facilitating the downfall of civilization, however, I view it as a systemic anomaly, the inevitable consequence of human desire and the capitalist economic system. I don't mean to argue against capitalism here, but merely to point out that under such a system there is virtually no need for a well-organized secret society. The secrecy simply originates from good business practices within the system and the elitism likewise originates from the pyramidal topology of capitalist wealth. Those at the top congregate and conspire as a function of the system and not necessariliy an ancient plan or even a well-organized group of hoodlums. All that need be is a system facilitating the appearance of such a group. All parties involved can very well believe that they are heros within the economic system, that their secrecy and conspirations are patriotic. It makes no difference whether they believe themselves to be avatars of Molach or angels of God, part of a mass conspiracy or simply individuals playing their role in civilization.

Yeah, global elites do exist, but it isn't all gloom and doom. The rockerfellers built some of the nicest universities, and donated a lot of money to decent causes.

And some of their ideas aren't that bad - For instance: A global government that is able to move large decisions across the planet would be useful if they were wise.

IE: if a meteorite was heading for the planet, or a natural disaster, or a dictator went crazy and was attempting something foolish.

The problem is that without sound philosophy underpinning their behavior, their actions wouldn't be wise, and the global panel of elites would be more dangerous than some midget asian dictator who is obsessed with hollywood, Disney cartoons, and being noticed by the US as great.

Basically as long as humanity is the butt of their own jokes, there isn't much hope for collective sanity.

Humanity kinda reminds me of a hyper jack Russell terrier that started chasing a toy, but eventually moved on to chasing its own tail, and when you try to intervene, you get your arm bit because the dog just wants to continue chasing its own tail uninterrupted, and it doesn't understand why, it just wants to.
