I'd answer that if I had any idea who Hugh Everett was.
He's the guy who originally came up with the "many worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics, which says that every event at the quantum level causes the universe to "fork" into divergent histories, resulting in a virtually infinite number of "parallel universes." It resolves the issue of Schroedinger's cat by saying that in some universe-branches the cat is observed to be alive, and in others it is observed to be dead.

This is actually taken quite seriously in physics, especially in light of new data which suggests that it answers certain questions more effectively than other interpretations. Of course, whether or not one considers it to be nonsense ultimately depends on which parallel universe one inhabits. I usually find myself inhabiting a universe-branch in which, after typing this sort of thing, I discover that no one actually gave a shit.

There is a way in which I agree with this. I regard each type of universal constant, such as "an atom can only reach a certain size" as a layer of universe, within the heirarchy of universes. Also sub-universes are parallel but only in the sense of them consisting of the same singular dualistic process regardless of spatial size (the universe is a mandlebrot set - A+B=C, C+A=D, C+B=E etc) - but the reality is that the universes structure is more like a pryamid, with a multitude of universes at the lower levels that gradually become fewer and fewer towards the top of the pryamid. Universal constants create the division required for layering. It is kind of like a pyramid, where the bottom layer is sand, the next layer gravel, then small rocks, then large rocks, all the way up to a singular blocks at the top - between each layer is the "cement" or glue of the universe, the universal constants.

Universal constants are of course not something that just exists, but are constantly caused over time as balances between the fundamental forces create a form of separation based on spatial size.

Yes, I know. No one gives a shit.

Levels of pyramids, etc

James,

In your analogy, how does one level of the pyramid interact with the other? Or does it?

Darn hard question that one. A quick answer is, yes they interact. The nuclear conversion of atoms to electromagnetic waves for example, is an interaction between different levels of the universe, where a higher level is converted to a lower level. Any universe level, such as our level, contains all the lower level universes.

The constants act to slow down such conversions, until such as as sufficent force gathers to break apart the "glue", the causal power equalisation, that are the constants. They are a kind of barrier, between one universe and another. To put into words, or even just conceptualise, the "how" of this interaction is extremely difficult. In normal circumstances the constants act like a sieve, that prevents some universes from passing through but not others - ie radiation for instance can constantly extrude from atoms, but electrons within the atom will not pass the barrier unless something on the other side of the barrier causes the breakage or destruction of same barrier. The barrier is only different from what is not the barrier, by virtue of the greater degree of self-containment. The barrier is more static, it has far less causal extrusion, because the opposite powers are constantly acting on each other in (near) equal degrees, so this forms a stasis. Of course, no thing causal can ever be perfectly equal, so over time existing barriers decay and new barriers are caused to form.

As an analogy think of the Ozone layer as a barrier, where the Sun is where the Expansionary force is dominant or stronger and the Earth is where the Contracting force is dominant. The ozone layer blocks most of the expansionary force coming from the sun in the form of sunlight, it however does not block all the light but only the ultravoilet range. Something stronger like an asteroid simply breaks part of this barrier apart. That sunlight that does pass through is absorbed by unifying with the earths excess of contracting force, or reflected out into space. The barrier also is a thing with a stronger contracting force, and it too absorbs sunlight and changes.

Got it.

Macrocosm > microcosm.

Is radiation considered matter? Are photons matter?

Could you argue that your analogy is the interplay of matter and anti-matter...

Personally, I regard anything that has an observable property as matter. To me matter is anything that is caused and is also a unity. Divisions of matter into certain categories is just a human purpose/definitional driven idealogy. To me Space is matter. I would also say that Flowing Time is matter (but I would not say that static time or instantaneous time is matter, should such concepts of the possible division of flowing time be realistic).

That which is not a unity, namely that which is fundamental, is still caused, but it is not matter because it cannot be divided into parts, it is entirely "that singular thing caused by an opposite".

Yes and No. A definate yes if you think of matter/anti-matter as the fundamental forces that create matter, in which case matter is the expansionary force and anti-matter the contracting force. A definite No if you think anti-matter is another type of matter that is opposite to matter.

I don't believe in this theory at all. For one thing, I have fixed all of the quantum physics paradoxes.

2/ Each atom would have to have its own universe for every event, which is just a stupid amount of power consumption, and nature tends to be conservative.

3/ Your death would be pretty pointless, because no matter what your beleifs are there would be infinate forms of regeneration. For example, infinate Heavens, or infinate Hells.

4/ Life would be meaningless.

5/ Individuality would be meaningless.

6/ The Big Bang would take an infinate different courses, and would therefore never get going, because it would take to infinity to happen.

I dont think I understand everything in this thread, but Sheldrake's "The Presence of the Past" in which he says that whatever it is you exist in, is evolving. He suggests that just as the human zygote, as it grows, recapitulates all the steps in its evolution, so also everything else, including physical, ie dead matter, does the same, having, as he put it, a "morphic resonance" with all of its previous phases.

Thus, you'd be able to examine the 'pyramid' to determine all previous phases back to the initial point, the 'Big Bang' or whatever. But that dont mean there's a purpose in it. Sheldrake, as far as I've gotten in his book anyway, dont say there's any divine plan or whatever either.

Like the Demon told Croesus, "you are dirt". So dont get your panties in a wad over it. No point in that either.
