Guarding spirit

Post by Dennis Mahar »

seeker,
I can't understand why you wrote that, but I'd prefer the whole yes/no clear dialogue. Agree with what we agree on when asked, and disagree when we disagree, without the slightest confusion, it seems the simplest way to find the exact distinctions/disagreements and address them.

Although I wouldn't know what to post about these days, not much to say. Anyone thinking like this lives with a perspective out of the ordinary and hence behaves differently, what happens this way? More than usual solitude seems a part of it.
A goal of human being is to be filled with Spirit.
It happened for you,
Beginner's Mind kicked in.
The possibility is Sage.

You mentioned guarding spirit before without explanation.
You have to create this out of nothing.
It's your job.

What does it look like to you?

It seems to me the only option is doing nothing, or going and getting involved which is still nothing but with constraints. The point is there is nothing to do, what do you do?

You don't need a guru now.
You create it from now on, it's up to you.
Adulthood.

I had to open up to the question 'what now?'

But you still don't answer as to what you did, it is not exactly up to me, to leave attachments and hence constraints behind means getting in the way of other peoples desires and hence causing them suffering

At the end there aren't any other options but to "give in" to our desires and play it out, moving from one distraction to the next each new day. I don't hate it or love it, but I shouldn't play along with others interacting and feigning attachment forever just to avoid hurting others, and I also shouldn't hurt others just to follow ever changing desires and free myself from the reasonable control others are always trying to assert, which is silly in itself as there is nothing I actually want, all options are nothing.

You should have translated "empty and meaningless" into something more practical.

If I am correct, it practically means "Stop looking, there is nothing to find, just accept it". Is that accurate?

I saw part of a movie in which a young monk couldn't take it that his girl left him. The sage replied to him "Can't you accept it?" and the teenager screamed "No!". The sage discovers that he had killed both his ex girlfriend and the guy she was with. Earlier in the movie he had said "Desire leads to attachment, attachment leads even to murder."

This "looking" that people constantly feel, it is the major sign of the delusion of self-attachment. Feeling empty of something, unaware of the fact that they are empty of a self, and no one can't know what someone wants.

When you tell people it is empty and meaningless, remind them that means to "stop looking".

Focusing the why reveals the how and makes all things relevant.

Nah,
its empty and meaningless that its empty and meaningless refers to yesterday.
we tend to drag our prejudice, our aversions and preferences from the past into the present creating the future,
same shit, different day.
to be free of that machinery is to be open to the possibility showing up currently.

Isn't that saying the same thing as accept it today and don't cling? You said I needed to "scald" people on their flaws to help them, I found that a person who is not enlightened can only "keep in shape" with constant reminders/practice.

By that I mean regular meditation and sage studies, people forget easily and fall back into the traps.

You'd have to 'get' absence.
Absence of meaning.

toward enlightenment is as Quinn suggests,
stripping the bullshit away.
Not caring.

If you're thinking about, writing about, promoting and insisting that Medeaval Worldview and stuff like that are significant you've gone insane.

And what is the medieval worldview? I hope you aren't referring to sages.

What I mean is the nature of your Soliliquoy.
The stream of consciousness keeps rolling thru' with all it's opinion, prejudice, aversion and preference but there's no 'sting' in it.
It's not 'believed in.
That conditioning appears hollow and quite silly and prevents the spirit of presence.

And when chatting with another,
the story they are telling or picture being presented by them,
the flaws in logic and reason stand out like beacons.
the beliefs are monstrous and the suffering is plain to 'see', how the person is fumbling their way down blind alleys because the person has a belief there is this 'Storybook Self"
that needs protecting and comforting.

Most conversations are immersed in a 'what's in it for me' paradigm by all parties.
Once the belief in an intrinsic self is no longer at the centre,
one doesn't 'need' anything.

A conversation then becomes the possibility for an act of generosity into which 'listening' happens.

To assign 'meaning' is to believe there is something at stake.
The absence of meaning is nothing at stake.

The old saying 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' stands out in quite a new and unexpected way.

Some people are incredibly delightful when you are looking from a point of view that's absent of agenda.

Does that make sense?

In the ballpark?

Dennis,

With each affirmation of your post also objection arises as its shadow.

How much of life would be about fumbling down blind alleyways? Insane proposals, outrageous challenges! Could even a case be made that so far everything was set in motion, for the good or the worse, by needing, believing, fumbling along after the next delusion? Even while nothing being at stake, the stakes might decide themselves, making sure things keep moving along. But where are the strings attached?

What if absence of agenda, of "mistake" is forever the exception? A momentary lapse of error?

Diebert,

Shadow is fear isn't it?
In one's 'subjective experience' fear clamps, its unmistakeable.
Shadow is where the 'gold' is.
I thought your post 'do something dangerous every day' was insightful.
That doesn't mean do something 'foolhardy'.
one's spirit needs guarding.
Doing a community project is scary.

Of course a possibility for authentic expression fucks up at some point so you have to know when to 'bail out'.

breakdowns in possibility suck and are inevitable considering the multiple variables generating them.
It's best to grieve for 5 minutes and get on with something else.
the past is the past.
all is empty.
you either fall into overwhelm and seek solace for the wounds or breakthru'.

You're attuned to guarding spirit Diebert as well as being-in-action.
savvy, I would think.
What are you aware of as you go about stuff.

meaning, meaningless, empty and meaningless, authentic, inauthentic, nihilism, meaning making are vital for philosophy, considering philosophy is all about awakening the subject in its situation.

meaning= context and content.

One has to find a context to live from and 'dwell' in that context.

A policeman is a context that 'gets' the action of 'catching thief'.
His contents are his laws, his badge, his cuffs, his jailhouse, etc..

What is it to dwell in the infinite?

Once it is known.... "one doesn't 'need' anything“

Which equals "stop looking" does it not?

Or even "the master does nothing, yet leaves nothing undone"

I don't need anything is the final death of ego chasing, a need. That is why it is so clear when there is something that hasn't yet been dealt with, when someone is still looking for something.

Empty n meaningless empty n meaningless practically means non-action, stop looking, give up let go.

Wisdom traditions always 'get' a hierarchy.

Spirit, mind, body to distinguish.

Body/mind conditional.

the logic takes you to the edge of relative existence
where there are no reasons,
no 'the answers'.
This is it.
It is what it is and it isn't what it isn't.

Gateless Gate.
No thing.
Spirit.

A non-conceptual understanding that nothing exists independent of the mind conceiving it.

That is the key, without it there is no logical understanding of eternal life, there is no other way to comprehend non-attachment to self. Every single avenue is open, 'you can use it any way you want'.
