And it took you just over a year to come to this conclusion? You lurk a lot, post some... I'm going to take a wild guess here. Your SN is hades... perhaps you chose that because you have lived a life in the hell realms. Now you start throwing a temper tantrum and picking on David... David is the one notorious for banning those who start directing their irrationality at him... If you had chosen Dan, he would have put you in your place, if you had chosen Kevin he would have demonstrated his extreme patience at you, but no, you chose David, why? I wonder if a slew of things went wrong in your offline life, you are depressed, and you would like to make it a complete "now everything has turned to shit" by also getting yourself banned from this board where you have spent over a year of your life trying to learn something about the nature of Ultimate Reality and follow the path to enlightenment.

All of this, of course, is just a wild guess, and I could be completely off. So what's up?

It was a wild guess. Nice try though.

hades,
I have certain expectations of this forum due to its advertisements. Things like :

~Discussion of the nature of Ultimate Reality and the path to Enlightenment~

And it just doesn't live up to it.
Have you considered that perhaps your expectations for what the nature of ultimate reality and the path to enlightenment are ... are wrong?

You sound like someone bored by the timeless truths -- and waiting for the car chase.

My answer to "what's up?" has often been to look up and answer with what I see - usually "ceiling tiles." I see some me in you with that. I also know that is avoiding the question.

I probably won't get the real answer from you about what is going on with you to cause this behavior. I just hope you take some time to do some reflecting, or talk to someone you can talk to. Perhaps do both.

I wish you the best hades.

This made me feel sad, like you are returning me back to the pound =[

What did I do?

You evaded the question. We can't help you as much as a human would need help if you do not communicate with us like a human being. You are not a dog to be returned to the pound, you are not a dog that can only speak in barks and whimpers - you are a human who can type. If you want meaningful communication in, you have to give meaningful communication out. No one comes here with the best of communication skills. I look back at stuff I typed nearly six months ago and squirm with embarrassment because I remember what I was thinking, and my words did not read like that at all - but I posted a lot so I grew a lot. You have posted little, so the growth is correspondingly little.

Now you are posting more, but you are not posting the deeper you. You are only posting your longest shadows. I can't see the real you from that long of a shadow.

If you want to grow, you have to be willing to sacrifice your old self to get your new self. Are you ready now?

Well, I'm certainly taking "enlightenment" and "ultimate reality" away from you, because you have been misusing them through ignorance.

You need to go back to the basics: definitions, fallacies, syllogisms, and all that. The big ideas have tied you in knots. You simply aren't ready for them.

Elizabeth, you're missing his point. He is the sage. He's here to teach us how to become enlightened.

Indeed. I think the concept is valuable. You don't -- since you don't think any concept is valuable.

Therefore, you won't miss it.

BTW hades, as you already know, it does take a lot of guts to sacrifice your real self to these vultures.

I'm pretty sure he is laughing at us for continuing to respond to him.

I suggest we don't, at least don't respond to the posts where he says nothing of his own.

Agreed. He is feeding from the attention we are giving him. He is obviously enjoying poking his tongue at the people here who think.

Still, like Unidian, he represents a common type and embodies a common belief-system, which makes it worthwhile to engage with him and provide contrasting points of view. Not for his sake, but for others reading who are more serious about their spirituality.

Has Hades ever posted in this or other forums under another name? I have a slight idea of who he might be.

Not that I'm aware of, but his/her/its perspective is something that we have encountered many times before and which has been presented in a far more skillful manner (some might remember "Lobster" from the old email days). It's essentially modern Buddhism and moreover New Age Buddhism in a nutshell.

It's no more sophisticated than the stupid nonsense you get from people who say "philosophy" can't get us anywhere. How do they "know" this? Well, either they made it up or thought about it. Either way it's desperately stupid. Even if you hold the view that all philospphy does is "clarify" concepts, it nevertheless gets us somewhere greatly significant.

I'm curious about why now. I've seen him lurking a lot, and a person does not have a sudden change in behavior like that unless there is a reason (causality anyone?). I also notice he did fuss about not much philosophy and he's acting in a way that he knows darned well has gotten people banned in the past, I notice Clyde just left - shortly after starting to get a little vicious himself (mr. do no harm), Arktos barely got here and was ready to leave from all the attacks, Leah turned and started snapping back pretty quickly... My hands are bloody, too - I attacked lou and he promptly left.

Yes, this is a "thinking man's minefield" but I hardly think that meant the point of the forum was to blow up anyone who thinks and runs across here. Too much blood covers the truth. People do start getting vicious after being here awhile, and I see that this place isn't just cultivating wisdom, it is also a bully incubator. I don't mean we should start pandering to pansies, but chasing off potential good candidates should not be part of the plan either.

Potential good "candidates" don't get chased off by anything. There is nothing more bullying and terrifying than Reality. People's motives for posting or not posting or suddenly posting a lot after not posting for a long time matter little to me in comparison to the content of what they actually do post.

To me, that's all that really matters and is what I base my judgements upon.

They would get turned off if the forum became too over-run with nonsense, which is why a little pruning is sometimes needed here and there.

I don't know if Hades has reached that stage yet. He is starting to get repetitive, but he might soon slip out of this current phase just as easily as he slipped into it.

That is an excellent critereon - and actually should be the only critereon - the content of the post, not who posted it or whatever else. And that's actually what I'm bringing up in general anyway. The content of the posts that causes thoughts to not be posted, therefore not considered. Yes, there is a limit to that too as we do not want every piece of drivel that wafts through a non-thinking person's mind to be posted here, but intelligent thinkers take a look at this bloody mess and walk off. Actually I'm pretty stupid for continually throwing myself into the mosh pit, and I'm especially dumb for throwing myself on this particular set of train tracks, knowing the train is coming, and feeling the tracks starting to vibrate - and doing it knowing I can't change a thing. It's stupid of me to do this, but I have to stand up for what I know is the right thing to say, even though I also know I'm going to get shot down for saying it. Some blood is necessary, but too much blood covers the truth. A wise person can see the difference even though it can't really be explained in rule format.

No hades, we are not just talking about you. It was just the timeing of it, and you happened to post the thread this landed on. I've been making a bunch of fusses about this lately. And there was no excuse for you to throw a temper tantrum - that was behaving like a little child - not like an adult. If you act like a child, I for one will be treating you like a child. Please expect that from now on. Grownups answer direct questions directly, so if you want me to treat you like a grown-up, act like one.
