Spam Attack

Post by Dan Rowden »

Hello all,

As you can see we've had a visit from a very stupid person. At present I don't know of any way to bulk delete these posts so I'm having to do it one by one for now. You'll have to bear with me.

Thanks,

More recent posts start on (as of now) page 19, if anyone else wants to go fishing for them. There are a few older posts interspersed between here and 19, but I think I got the freshest ones out.

There are 18 pages of this stuff? I was too scared to look at how many there actually are...

I emailed you, David, and Kevin when there were only 3 pages of the stuff. Maybe one of the other two will be along soon to help clean up?

Do you have access to the underlying database, Dan? One SQL query can delete them all. It shouldn't be a big deal.

It's appreciated.

You're doing a good job, Dan. When you started there were 20 pages of this, now there are less than 17 pages.

I would just let Kevin clean it up. I'm sure it would only take him a few minutes.

I'm not deleting any of them at the moment. I think we should wait and see if they can be deleted in one go, as suggested by Matt.

Well, that will be ok if Kevin hasn't gone away somewhere. I haven't been able to reach him.

Ok, got on to Kevin and he doesn't want to risk damaging the databse so we'll have to do it manually...

Dan and David together were able to get rid of one full page in the last 10 minutes. With the two of them working together, that's close to three hours of work left.

Kevin has not posted in a week, so I don't know if that means he'll be back soon, or if Kevin takes long sabatticals.

A couple of friends from Future Philosphy are also now helping.

My thanks to Naturyl (Unidian) and Rory!

Fuck's sake. If I weren't so enlightened, I might be feeling paranoid since the threads of interest to me seem to be the ones that disappear into the bottomless void when this place comes under attack.

Any chance of recovering the boundaries of the Tao Te Ching thread?

(I think forums should come with child-safety locks like medicine bottles--some children are inclined to guzzle far too much than is good for them.)

You're about half done already! Just a little over 10 pages to go.
