There's been too much of it, it's a distraction, and it too easily degenerates into flirting. I think it's already reached to point where it is detrimental to the purposes of the Genius forums.

I agree with Dave Hodges. I definitely am not offended by discussion of sex. I could not care less. I am not offended by flirtation. I think people should be free to flirt as much as they want to flirt.
The Danish cartoons were political and religious in nature and, therefore, offensive to some Muslims. I suspect that Dave Hodges is not offended by discussion of sex.

Flirting can be distracting to serious discussion. How do I know? Been there, done that. I am not sure that flirting is something that can be banned from the writing here. I think it is something that has to be outgrown. That takes time. Some encouragement to do so is not out of order and does not have to be directed at particular people or a particular person.
I reckon part of the problem of a free-wheeling forum is that these things will occur. Since anything goes, anything goes. It can be hoped that posters will monitor themselves but it is true that people can only monitor conscionable things. If one is not conscious of one's aimlessness and frivolity, then, one will post that unconsciousness.
Freedom is a wonderful thing. But freedom, in the purest sense, is also responsibility.

I think a free forum can monitor itself and, in the process, become more conscious.

Yes, it is not entirely conscious, and therefore not entirely rational, and distracts from rational discussion. Since it's not entirely conscious, it can take over without one really being aware of it.
