Now I get it! I hit a sore spot! AI is a sore spot for vicdan. I bow to your necessarily greater expertise on the subject. My own graduate work was in physics, alas, so twentieth-century comapared to the very happening AI.
AI is not a sore spot for me. I just don't like it when people bloviate about it without understanding the subject (though I hold the same attitude towards other subjects).

Then how do you stand most of the discussion that goes on here? :-P
I usually don't -- this is why I hadn't visited GF for so long, only coming back here to follow up on the interview.
Plus, as time goes by, I find myself having less and less desire for correcting others' errors, and more and more frequently, when I see someone talk out of their ass, I simply sigh and move on.

Yeah. I need Jeebus and Allah and Krishna and Yahweh-Ben-Yahweh and Adya and Bush and Flying Spaghetti Monster too, according to their various proponents.
And yet, despite all of those unsatisfied needs, somehow I manage. Amazing.
Some say he is Elvis reincarnate; others say he's the co-admin of this board; still others say he's the guy associated with the site linked at the top of every single page on this board.
I haven't read it because I'm too poor to order books and there's no library nearby, but I've heard good things about it from enough bright people to have it high on my wish list.
It is good. Yes, it's all over the place. The book is like a trip to the kind of a place you had never been before, rambling and crazy and wildly fun -- but it all ties in together eventually. Ultimately, the GEB is about a different way of looking at the world, about scrutinizing the things you never gave a second thought to before.
Well, you probably gave a second thought to most things you will encounter there, but it's still an awesome book.
And yet, despite all of those unsatisfied needs, somehow I manage. Amazing.
It astounds the heck out of me too, Unidian.
But don't you ever wonder how life got here? To Earth, I mean.
And I do agree about GEB. It touches on a lot of stuff, tying it together as it goes. Metaphorical fugue, indeed.

I am sure it was brought here by atlanteans (who originally came from Phaethon, before it shattered). They came here on crystal pyramid-propulsion spaceships.

No, no, no - it came by antlerians, driven by Satan Clause - you know, the guy with the pointy ears in the red suit who spreads greed and avarice throughout the world?
.
No, life on Earth was created by Dr. Gene Ray during a Time Cube experiment gone wrong. While Dr. Ray was attempting to confront evil-ass educators with ineffable truth, there was a fault in the bastardly queer Greenwich time matrix and the first living cells were created. No need to ask how Dr. Ray was around before living cells, because he is above God.
