Everyone's Opinion

Post by Borommakot »

This is a purposefully stupid question.

Why do you think it would be better if everyone was intelligent?(If you do)
Why would an ethical society be the best thing? And for who?
What exactly would be considered universally ethical?
And if ethicality is controversial, how is it possible to have an ethical society, without making every person believe exactly the same thing? Or would that be good?
If that is good, then whose version of ethical would we use? Yours?
Why isn't chaos the best thing for humanity?
Why do you care if the human race advances? Do you?
If you don't believe in afterlife, then what is the point in living, and following the rules? Surely not to stay alive, life being pointless and all?
Why is it better not to think only of yourself?
Why waste your time sitting in front of your computer typing words? Why not have fun?
Why not break the law?

Seventeen questions, actually?

What's up Borom, a lot of homework to get through, for your philosophy class? Or, just can't sleep? What makes any of your questions stupid? Do you like being stupid? Why do you group every question you have into one massive post? Is is a sort of poll questionnaire? What do you care what others think? How will you know a stupid answer from a non-stupid one? Where do you live? Why? What holds the sun up in the sky? What is at the end of the Universe? Where do you hide your Playboy magazines?

Carl G wrote:What's up Borom, a lot of homework to get through, for your philosophy class?
I don't have a philosophy class. Unfortunately.
Carl G wrote:Or, just can't sleep?
Correct.
Carl G wrote:What makes any of your questions stupid?
I actually don't think that they are stupid, but I didn't want any attacks because I asked seventeen questions that questioned almost everything about why it is good to be smart or why life is worth living, and why we should follow the rules. Many people think that it should be obvious. I don't.
Carl G wrote:Do you like being stupid?
No. But it happens alot.
Carl G wrote:Why do you group every question you have into one massive post?
Because they are, when grouped together, one giant question about purpose.
Carl G wrote:Is is a sort of poll questionnaire?
Yes, it is.
Carl G wrote:What do you care what others think?
Because many others are more intelligent, or nicer than I am.
Carl G wrote:How will you know a stupid answer from a non-stupid one?
I won't, but if i asked these questions anywhere, here would be the place I would expect to get the most "non-stupid" answers.
Carl G wrote:Where do you live? Why?
At my home in Florida. Because if I am there, my parents provide for me, and help me to get an education. (I'm under eighteen)
Carl G wrote:What holds the sun up in the sky?
I really have no idea, I have only been through basic science and Chemistry. I believe it is the absence of attraction with more force than the suns attraction.
Carl G wrote:What is at the end of the Universe?
A restaurant.

In a hollow leg of a pew in a church in nevada.

Correct, but not because it's from Adams' book.

The universe, experienced as an existence is conveived by valuing.

The erosion, end or 'death' of valuing is usually accompanied by signs of decadence.

There you have it, all answers to the questions in your first post folded into one.

If this intelligence isn't accompanied by good character it probably wouldn't matter.
Why would an ethical society be the best thing? And for who?
For one thing you'd be less likely to be killed, cheated or suchlike. You don't think that would be a good thing?
What exactly would be considered universally ethical?
Nothing; there's no such thing as universal ethics.
And if ethicality is controversial, how is it possible to have an ethical society, without making every person believe exactly the same thing? Or would that be good?
It's not about beliefs, it's about knowledge. I personally think it would be a good thing if everyone undertood the nature of reality. Without such knowledge an ethical society is actually totally lacking.
If that is good, then whose version of ethical would we use? Yours?
That's up to the individual. A wise society isn't necessarily an ethically homogeneous one since ethics are derivative of purpose and no objective purpose is given to us by Nature.
Why isn't chaos the best thing for humanity?
It might be if your purpose and values don't involve humanity's continued existence.
Why do you care if the human race advances? Do you?
Yes, it is necessary to my purpose.
If you don't believe in afterlife, then what is the point in living, and following the rules? Surely not to stay alive, life being pointless and all?
Who said life is pointless? Your questions arise from a false premise.
Why is it better not to think only of yourself?
We already do think predominantly of ourselves. Altruism is a myth, though positive outcomes for others may be possible out of our self-ness.
Why waste your time sitting in front of your computer typing words? Why not have fun?
Who says I'm not? Isn't "fun" really just doing what best expresses your nature?
Why not break the law?
Being incarcerated or potentially killed doesn't suit me. Plus I lack the egotism that leads most people to do the things they do - criminal or otherwise.

Why be ethical and not be a hedonist? (I think that's what your questions boil down to.)
The soul may be cured, but not fate. Fearful thing, an incurable destiny.
~Victor Hugo, Les Miserables
Doing what's right sets your mind free. Chasing pleasure only leads to suffering.
