Elizabeth? Unidian? Any comments (hopefully ones I can paste over there)?

It still sounds like he's avoiding A=A at all costs.

Kevin - that was the original one. I already linked to it earlier in the thread; it's the post marked Thu Mar 22, 2007 10:07 am.

Trevor - I signed up for that board; I'll be over in a little bit.

WTF? I signed up and it let me log in, but it says I don't have permission to post in that forum.

Okay, here's stuff to paste, and I'll format it differently since the boards have incompatible quoting systems:

Ax wrote: All that we can tangibly see, test, observe, study, etc is the A=A side.

E: This is true.

Ax wrote:There is no reason to believe that the void exists.

E: That could well be true for you. The quadratic equation is not useful to most people either.

Ax wrote:It is possibly just something we created.

E: I can see both sides of that. On the one hand, all experiences are just a state of mind, and it could be said that we do create all of our states of mind. On the other hand, how could absolute nothingness be created?

I am not asking you to believe this, I am just asking that you follow this point of view so that you can understand what I'm seeing:

Imagine an empty glass. Really look at it and see it for what it is. Now fill the glass with milk. What do you have? In one consideration, you have a glass full of milk. In another consideration, you have an empty glass and you have milk. Where did the "emptiness" go? You could say that emptiness is just a description, so it wasn't really there for it to go anywhere. Or you could consider that the emptiness is still there, it is just superimposed with fullness.

Ax wrote: It is just a religion. It is not testable.

E: Just because something is not testable does not make it a religion. I'd accept if you said "it's just a concept."

Ax wrote: Maybe there are actually 2 boxes, one inside each other. On the inside box we have the A=A and the void box, and on the outside we have the A=B=C/Sqrt[X^3]

E: Can you logically demonstrate that?

Ax wrote:This is all useless. Who cares?

It could well be useless to you. It is useless to most people - just like the quadratic equation. It can also be a source of insanity for those who are not ready for the concept.

Ax wrote:I am agnostic -- we cannot know if some God exists outside our reach in the same way that we cannot know if reality is true or an illusion.

E: This is correct - there is no way to know if life is just a figment of your imagination. You could be in a coma somewhere, dreaming all of this.

Ax wrote:If Buddha ever finds some evidence of this absolute truth I will look into it.

E: Buddha is in you - wake him up and ask him yourself.

Ax wrote:Even if we knew that this void existed, it is not relevant at all. We can not study it. We can only study the A=A side and that is what we are doing.

Yes, all we can study is A=A. Even experiencing the void can not lead to studying it - only understanding it.

(Trevor - this is also another explanation of what mindprodigy is trying to say. I think he's trying too hard to sound like the Tao Te Ching and isn't bringing it into modern English. I believe one must speak in the language of the listener to be understood.)

All existences have empty-nature.
Therefore no world is absolute, worlds are just existences.
The absolute is empty-nature of both existences.
Form is form and emtpiness is emptiness is not true.
Form and emptiness are inseperable, they are different, but form is not form without emptiness, and emptiness is not emptiness without form. Because both of these worlds are niether correct, the absolute truth of it all is that all existences are empty.
This is the supreme great enlightenment of Buddha.
This is how Buddha's attain nirvana.
Even emptiness itself is empty by nature.
Realizing the true empty-nature of all existences is the highest enlightenment of a Tathagata.
Yeah, he's right, but why say all that? It's more succinctly expressed as "Mu," since if the concept of emptiness is itself an empty concept, then talking about emptiness or anything else is just much ado about nothing. He still has an attachment to "having it" by weilding the word "emptiness" as an ultimate truth. But emptiness is an empty concept. He has nothing.

The true empty-nature of all existences and 75 cents will buy him a cup of coffee.

And I signed up for this one. :)

They love banning my accounts there so axxx113 has gone bye bye. :(

Looks like I have lots of reading to do for here though. -.-

It's very rare that people get banned from here. Other than the obvious spam accounts (check out my awesome new porn search engine!!), disagreement with David Quinn is the most likely cause (well, not really... if the disagreement is completely idiotic and repetitive, he'll class it as spam).

Nothing wrong with that, necessarily. It's his house. I've always felt that the owners and hosts of a forum have every right to determine what kind of content they want to encourage. Of course, this is coming from a guy who has banned like 100 people from various forums... :p

Good luck, Elizabeth. I have no idea what this guy is trying to say. Reading your replies to him will be a lot easier than reading his blobs of text.
