Omnitudo Realitatis

Post by Animus »

A latin phrase meaning "All of Reality", "The All"

As I understand it this was a phrase used by Kant in the critique of pure reason. The essential nature of which is that any "Thing" is predicated on a transcendental substrate of "The All" (Omnitudo Realitatis).

Googling the phrase, provides the first result: http://userpages.bright.net/~jclarke/kant/ideal1.html
Omnitudo Realitatis: the transcendental substrate employed by reason in the complete determination of things. "The All"
The concept of what possesses all reality is just the concept of a thing in itself as completely determined.
Is anyone familiar with this concept and perhaps can elaborate on it with clarity!

Thanks

Can I just say once again how much I detest Kant and his convoluted manner of expression. The guy clearly had no desire to understand anything of note, let alone express himself in a simple, clear manner. A charlatan of the highest order.

The concept of the thing-in-itself can only apply to the ALL and nowhere else. This is because there is nothing other than the ALL by definition, unlike the things which comprise it.

It seems like he is saying, essentially, that when we conceive of a thing, we do so by contrast with everything which is not it.

This would seem reasonable and basically what you discussed in WOTI and what Dan discussed on The Nature of Existence. But yea, Kant sure has a way with words.

I like using convoluted phraseology like this, because I can identify with it and feel proud of my superior understanding. I become "puffed up" by using huge and uncommon words.

So, I'll probably use this term, but I see your point, ultimately its just that, puffing myself up and not for any pure understanding or genuine effort to communicate.

I've been using this term in this way: The leader of the New World Order (Illuminati) is Realitatis! He knows all and controls all, he has many names!

Its fun for me, and some times I wonder if anyone gets it or if anyone would listen to me if I tried a different tactic. Some of these NWO/Illuminati conspiracy peeps are pretty whack!

Anyway, a few years ago I was almost convinced there was a secret world order. I subscribed to Alex Jones, bought many of his DVDs and even had a private dialog with a Norwegian chemist about the possible use of a Tritium Suitcase Nuke.

I was right into it! Omnitudo Realitatis sounds like one of those things you'd hear about in one of these conspiracy jobs.
