You have been assigning too much reality and credibility to your knowledge, the fact is they are just imaginations that are non-existent.

Re: Earth is Paradise
I'm on an enlightenment forum where half the people disagree with "there is nothing but what is seen of the mind itself".
My point is, there are a lot of people that don't even know what enlightenment is, most of the time you avoid this, saying how the main observation is impermanence. That is definitely a main observation, but everything being a manifestation of the mind seems to be a relevant one also, wouldn't you say?

Re: Earth is Paradise
The consciousness of appearance. How wonderful and new and yet how gruesome and ironic I find my position vis-a-vis the whole of existence in the light of my insight! I have discovered for myself that the human and animal past, indeed the whole primal age and past of all sentient being continues in me to invent, to love, to hate, to infer. I suddenly woke up in the midst of this dream, but only to the consciousness that I am dreaming and that I must go on dreaming lest I perish - as a somnambulist must go on dreaming lest he fall. What is "appearance" for me now? Certainly not the opposite of some essence: what could I say about any essence except to name the attributes of its appearance! Certainly not a dead mask that one could place on an unknown x or remove from it!
Appearance is for me that which lives and is effective and goes so far in its self-mockery that it makes me feel that this is appearance and will-o'-the-wisp and nothing more - that among all these dreamers, I, too, who "know," am dancing my dance; that the knower is a means for prolonging the earthly dance and thus belongs to the masters of ceremony of existence; and that the sublime consistency and interrelatednes of all knowledge perhaps is and will be the highest means to preserve the universality of dreaming and the mutual comprehension of all dreamers and thus also the continuation of the dream.

He is talking about dreamers and dreaming but in what context? Does he mean it literally
Re: Earth is Paradise
Seeker, what is it that you want from people here? What is it that you need that you are not getting?
Straight-up question. I'd like to understand. So far, the only fundamental answer I can come up with is agreement/agreeability. So help me out here. You want people to agree with you; and be agreeable (not contend).
You need something from here, and in a big way. What is it?

You mistake boredom and having nothing interesting to talk about for needing something
Re: Earth is Paradise
I think that Nietzsche is not making distinctions between dreaming/sleep and dreaming/wake, but assessing all 'knowledge' (content) as survival tool, at the same time all 'knowledge' (content) is a dream of ours.
Isn't that what you're after, too?

It's a very good quote. Earlier I tried to describe the idea of "reality" being the actual consistency and relatedness of any collection of experiences. This then transcends any notion of dream or awake states since the dream state -- even if it would be more consistent and related to something -- would just be included in our reality as "real" (as perhaps it once indeed did).
Nietzsche then addresses the next question of what would be the point of knowledge and the question of reality in the larger scheme of existence and existentialism. Which in the context of the quoted author would mean the preservation of the human race since that has been earlier defined as the overarching mother instinct underlying every other activity we might imagine.
But even if we'd go with this, it would leave wide open a whole other range of questions. What does it mean to be human or race and what is trying to preserve "itself"? Didn't Zarathustra wrote as well: "what is great in man is that he is a bridge and not a goal: what is lovable in man is that he is an over-going and a down-going"? - Now we're talking!

Oh, but life in any of its forms seeks its the promotion of itself in all the opportunism possible within every species and beyond them, too, if it finds better flourishing conditions. I know we should and could only be referring to the human question, but why? - why not see it as life-itself (without there really being an 'itself' or a central-reporting area). Life is about the conditions for life, life is the ising itself, and as long as those [conditions] are about, life puts itself forward, is drive, as drive, as both the thing and what it's doing. That, in my estimation, is what is 'eternal' about life. It cannot ever be about "a" life, but life. Hence, the necessity of death to its individual creations; just so it might always re-create . . . .What does it mean to be human or race and what is trying to preserve "itself"?

I smell a great deal of scholarism...
I will have to ask you Diebert what did you do for a living if you're okay with that. Or your take on existentialism is nothing but post-mordernism.

Ah, but aren't you here just exchanging "human blood" with "life blood", like a globalist exchanging national blood with blue helmets? Perhaps a stronger loyalty to self-image remains always part of the parcel, assuming the image hasn't come to us from beyond time or through time, backwards even. But enough of these thoughts for now. You are trying to define life here in an almost self-evident and circular way. Perhaps only because that's what and how we know stuff. A philosophical danger would be that of the classical thermometer waxing about mercury. Everything being temperature, everything as measure of this water-silver.Pye wrote:Oh, but life in any of its forms seeks its the promotion of itself in all the opportunism possible within every species and beyond them, too, if it finds better flourishing conditions. But shouldn't we go a step further and deeper and look forward to discover newer horizons to justify all of man's greatness and sadness? Horizons which can be put on maps. Horizons which can be sailed toward by actual beings? Nietzsche never could see much beyond the horizon of nihilism but he saw that one well.

I'd prefer post-mortemism or as Tomas baptized me: the great mortician. Anyway, my living is derived from information technology but nearly always happening in various academic contexts. My specialism lies in close collaboration with researchers of various disciplines to get things done. This has taught me perhaps how to talk more like them :-)Bobo wrote:I will have to ask you Diebert what did you do for a living if you're okay with that. the relation of Being and Dasein.
Being 'calls'
Dasein 'responds'
Being 'gifts' Dasein with thinking,
thinking enables Dasein the gift of disclosing Being as primordial to Dasein,
thereby presencing Being.
To dwell in the infinite,
is for Dasein to dwell in the neighbourhood of Being despite the push-pull of worldly matters.
Listening is the listening for Being concealed in the 'noise' of Dasein, the anxiety of Dasein.
'Being forgotten' is a breakdown in thinking.
Impermanence, a simple observation, is a breakthru' in thinking for Dasein that enables Dasein access to the experience of Being for Dasein.
you, me and everything.
what gives?

What if man is exactly that, searching outside "himself". Then the goal would be to find something to search for or cease being man altogether. Which of course is exactly what nihilism has to offer: "What is longing? What is a goal?".Bobo wrote:The conquest of land is nothing but man's searching for something outside of himself. Well this is true both ways, all our knowledge of ultimate reality has been imagined by us, but, if not taken in the context that the things we see are existing only of the mind, then it is not really the same thing. It is talking about the reliability of knowledge but not in the same way, because in this case knowledge is much more accurate, most of this knowledge is able to be proved with evidence or logical reasoning.
Nothing existing but imagined up scenarios of the mind is a different case, it says that when you are showing and proving your knowledge using evidence etc, you are doing so using imagined scenarios and evidence.
Not only is the knowledge imagined in this case, but also every investigation of the outside world. Each piece of knowledge containing the same reliability as whatever information you might have spoke last night dreaming.
"Objects in themselves are neither in existence nor in non-existence and are quite devoid of the alternative of being and non-being, and should only be thought of as one thinks of the horns of a hare, a horse, or a camel, which never existed. Objects are discriminated by the ignorant who are addicted to assertion and negation, because their intelligence has not been acute enough to penetrate into the truth that there is nothing but what is seen of the mind itself."
Read chapter 2 "False imagination and knowledge of appearances" and let me know what you think. It isn't too long.

having something underway for you is setting up a sideshow to have something underway to fix your boredom.
you want control.

The best thing for you is to have your buttons pushed.
In a dojo your act wouldn't be patronised.
Your buttons would be pushed until they were completely flat.
You'll be immersed in this conversation for life so best to get it completely flat as soon as you can.

It's obvious this is not true, at least not literally. Life doesn't seek the promotion of itself any more than non-life. What we define to be "life" has existed for a period of time, and that's all there is to it.

Re: Earth is Paradise
At what point do we separate the organic from the organic? This goes even further: at what point do we separate the organic from the inorganic? If all phenomena are, and none can be 'studied' in isolation, what direction should our thoughts go here?Diebert: Ah, but aren't you here just exchanging "human blood" with "life blood", like a globalist exchanging national blood with blue helmets?
We've been burdened for a greek eon by ourselves as measurer of all things. So we shall always be burdened. But it is which things, and how we have looked at them . . . . beyond a world, outside a world, or exclusively into ourselves, when toward, in and of the world (existence) might be where our thoughts could turn. It's all speaking to us of conditions, is conditions, of which we are as well. If we abstract properly, so to speak, we're most acutely speaking, or, returned, to world. Cause and effect - none of which can be measured in isolation - grow larger in sight and in everything, eventually to be seen as the same thing, maybe.Diebert: Perhaps a stronger loyalty to self-image remains always part of the parcel, assuming the image hasn't come to us from beyond time or through time, backwards even.
Perhaps. Perhaps 'defining' existence could only be achieved the same way?Diebert: You are trying to define life here in an almost self-evident and circular way. Perhaps only because that's what and how we know stuff.
Here again, Diebert, may be the problem of 'nouning' life. I might not have wordy-verbed it very well, but I think imagining what "it" is wouldn't be as effective as being the experience (conditions, conditions, conditions). Perhaps this has been the kind of thing I've referred to in the past as dreaming-humanity, and how I've thought perhaps that slowly we can wake . . . when we get over the downgrading of the concrete, material world (my aforementioned 'globalism') in favour of spirit, we'll find spirit, but more. If we're - by our own closed loop of conditions [loop which isn't really closed] - the most 'complex' form of the organic, then our responses, our utterances are speaking out of the mouth of life; our joys, our sufferings, our conditions. Consciousness of our conditions - ourselves as conditions . . . . and as much of the all as we can see, handle or bear :)Diebert writes: It's important I think to get info focus what we think life is or whatever we think it is that we imagine to foster, put forward and drive on. It's the concern then, is it not?
