Indian Music Video
This video should be put in a museum for humans to study for years to come! It is definitely in a league of its own, the body language and dance routines are quite absurd! However, I hope that this video isnt a reflection of the mentality of the 1.3 billion people living in India because if so, then I've lost all optimism in the potential of the human race....

Re: Indian Music Video
I take it you are unfamiliar with Bollywood. That video is somewhat more absurd than the typical dance scene found in just about every Bollywood movie, but not by that much, really.

Re: Indian Music Video
Around the 14 sec mark....The way they edit him rolling up his sleeves, throwing off his jacket half way, flicking it back over him, blowing smoke from his mouth, smiling at the camera.......you know the video was made with an aesthetic sensibility of an entirely different order...
Not sure if the people who made the video had a good laugh while they made it, intentionally aiming for the highest peaks of zaniness - or were intensely focused and serious about their craft...
Either way, Very bizzare.

Yeah, I’m actually checking out this Bollywood phenomenon now. I find it interesting that someone would actually want to imitate the worst aspects of Hollywood in a serious manner, while doing a more dreadful job in the process.I take it you are unfamiliar with Bollywood.

Yes, that’s what I thought as well. Actually, what provoked me to look up Indian Music is that I seen Stephen Colbert mock the above video by substituting himself in place of the male lead singer you were describing.Either way, Very bizzare.

Ryan,
You are obviously ignorant of the late great master, "Little Superstar."

Well, it's hard to argue how much, but it's definitely if not significantly worse. The male lead comes off as a parody - he seems to be imitating a generic western hoodlum or a gangsta of sorts - and perhaps this imitation of what black culture has done more authentically and spontaneously in the west explains what looks to me like a more stunted, flaky, flamboyant mentality.WhorlyWhelk wrote:Not much worse than what we've got in North America.
I mean, our mainstream stuff in the west is ridiculous, but this stuff really pushes the envelope! And I don't think it's intentional...
If it is intentional parody, then the skills of the actors and film editors are top notch.

Re: Indian Music Video
Actually, I just watched it a second time and I can see that it's only the first 30 seconds wearing he is strutting (through the fog?) throwing off his jacket and then flicking it back up that really gave me the impression that the male lead was trying to model himself after a western ideal - but now that I've seen it again, I'm not sure cause it doesn't take long before he's in a new outfit, many new outfits - all very bright, silly colors. Not really modeling himself after anything that I can recall in the west.Cory Duchesne wrote:Well, it's hard to argue how much, but it's definitely if not significantly worse. I also noticed the frequency at which the male shakes when he dances is quite a bit more pronounced. Just more rapid body movements, rather than slower motions. It also seems more acceptable in the Indian culture for a man to get all worked up in a tizzy over a girl. Pop stars in the west, although very cheesy, always seem to be more laid back in their videos, not so excited and rapid in the frequency of their body movements.
It's definitely the male lead behavior that makes this video so weird.

Here's some western pop videos that reached some zany heights. Hasselhoff seems to be at least faintly aware of himself as a bit of a joke.
R.Kelly is on the other hand has no idea. lol
Jump in My Car - David Hasselhoff
"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"
R.Kelly - trapped in the closet

When the Bollywood aesthetic is done well, it's not quite as fucking weird.
A Better Example
I mean, she could still stand to say her opinions without a million of her clone-like friends backing her up, but India isn't known for its individualism.

Simple. The ladies love a good hood flip, the more height the better. I bet Indian men probably compete to see who can get the most air on their hood flips.Yes, how is quite a mystery, not to mention; why the HELL did he do that???

Indian music is interesting, even their pop genre. Obviously flexible necks are a requisite:

I actually like this song and filmclip - so, shoot me. Actually I may have posted this before. If so, ignore it.
