For instance, we heard this great dissertation about Ryan's wonderful feelings for his poor little mother; and his great contempt for his vulgar, alcoholic father (how many times do I hear this story?).

I've declined to comment on that - because I am in the same position. Except it is not mum, but working in the public service.

I do fuck all actual work - which is great for pursuing philosophical wisdom (but not great for a philosophical life)

I do fuck all actual work not because I am lazy, but because I know how meaningless any work that others would give me is.
(I'm in a centralised admin area, called Procurement Strategies, whose strategies are entirely determined by others, including the ego gratification of others - it just does not work -so I don't give a fuck anymore. Just call me unemployed like the QRS. If there is work that helps others I do it)

Leyla,
You'd be surprised how much humour I see in this thread alone!
You haven't said a sole funny thing. Geez, Leyla, lighten up.

Jamesh,
Her love of Marsha's style is good example of the fuckheadedness that women seem to develop, when their minds progress beyond what their natural femininity can handle.
Can your femininity handle it, James? I didn't think so.

Why the wimpiest of all men is always putting down femininity is beyond me.

Wow. I think I've changed my mind---such clear-headedness and attention to detail. I want to change teams!

It's not the same thing as the QSR at all, though, James.

Another thing which draws my attention at the moment is your mood swings, represented by the apparent lack of veracity in your fluctuating decisions. They indicate that you are not guided by well-grounded principles and thus are completely subject to any ol' emotional whim of the moment.

Is this a fleeting thing?

You could start by taking this conversation a little more seriously. It might help if you took Elizabeth's point with a bit more gravity, and reciprocated Ryan's admission of silliness. Even if you weren't being silly, it will show that you are ready to make a commitment to being light-hearted.

Well, Trevor, I just don‘t know whether my stoutly serious mind will take to such an idea, but I‘ll give it a shot.

Thanks.

That isn't light-hearted, that's just gutter talk. Maybe offline guys laugh when you talk like that, but not all laughter indicates that you are being light-hearted. BTW, did you know that when you talk like that offline, guys probably watch your butt as you walk away? It isn't humor - it is just an appeal to the animal realm.

Shazza (on another thread)

OK, so does that mean that if I start a mean-spirited thread, I wouldn't get in trouble?

It is OK should it be for the purpose of having a dig at me.

Can your femininity handle it, James? I didn't think so.
Why the wimpiest of all men is always putting down femininity is beyond me.

I'm a bit perplexed of how to respond to this.

To just ignore seems a bit weak on my part, but if I was to respond I'd find myself responding in a feminine way either by bitching back or talking about the causes of my nature. Ohh well, I’ll respond using some of those quotes I posted the other day

"A man should not make excuses."

Talking about the causes of my nature ends up being an emotional excuse not to do anything.

A man should strive to contain his anger, even when he is hungry.

I am hungry for revenge. I guess I’ll just have to caste that aside.

A man should learn not to sweat the small stuff.

Uhhh, your bitchiness is small stuff, but why I put down femininity is quite a decent question. Basically it must be because I dislike the type or degree of femininity within myself, but I am not significantly changing, so I am caused to react against this using external means. The other reason is that women for the most part tend to be inane bitches.

My femininity basically relates to a lack of discipline and physical toughness. My masculine side keeps telling me I have to do something about this, but I never do.

It is in the aesthetics of a man not to reveal his true feelings.

I would add - "when it serves no masculine purpose". Maybe I'll just shut up now then, hey!

Hey, Ryan, are you holding on to something because I'm about to give you a compliment (which is certainly an oddity!).

I find your typos just as amusing as Dan's!

Leyla:

Me: "Just call me unemployed like the QRS."
You: It's not the same thing as the QSR at all, though, James.

I was just saying I was kind of on the dole. I wasn't comparing myself to the QRS overall, but it does allow me time at work to muck around creating philosophy.

Another thing which draws my attention at the moment is your mood swings, represented by the apparent lack of veracity in your fluctuating decisions.

To me that is just the nature of reality and truth. It all depends on one's perspective at the time. I'm not telling any lies, so I dislike the word veracity above. Inconsistency I’d accept. I'm not that inconsistent either - there are time limitations in responding 100% accurately and consistently.

When I said May the Force Be with you, which kind of a inconsistent position to my initial post to you - that was just because I didn't feel inclined to do a detailed reply.

It was in reference to the point below you made - to which I just thought, well OK she is practising being aggressive in order to deal with whatever is causing this fear.

Regarding the uneasiness of mind: such a thing is not solely dependent upon causing the rest of the universe to attack one. It has to do with fear. You might recall a story of mine about an ex-boyfriend who had me by the throat and my own surprise at just how easy (and super-conscious, I might add) my mind was at the time. I mean, seriously, the last thing you want to do in a situation like that is be afraid.

They indicate that you are not guided by well-grounded principles and thus are completely subject to any ol' emotional whim of the moment.

Well grounded principles are dualistic ones. Handling these is more difficult than one sided truths, than inane fundamentalism.

I don't feel I've been that moody of late. I'm just more aggressive on some occasions than others, usually because of having drinks at lunchtime.

When I use swear words, it is basically just a form of shorthand and doesn't necessarily signify anger. I do get angry though - the to-ing and fro-ing with Hades for example, and virtually anything Shazza says, is irritating enough to cause short term anger.

I have not rejected emotions, so yes I will be subject to them. Too fucking boring otherwise.

I'm just trying to control them, not rid myself of them. I do not feel "completely subject" to emotions, because my ego has altered - it is not telling me to become overly emotional.

I do wish to rid myself of anger and purposelessness though.

Is this a fleeting thing?

Not that I can tell.

It [fluctuation/change] might be the nature of reality conceived by an individual, but it is not the nature of character. Development, memory, “a centre,” (that is, consistency) and not fluctuation, per se, are the key to character. The implication you make here is that an individual is this ever-fluctuating thing with no conscious connection to its past, or with a past that has no connection to the present and some kind of a future (even if death is part of that). So, unless that is not what you mean, I must disagree with you.

There are no time limitations to memory except those imposed by inconsistency.

More later.

Shah: OK, so does that mean that if I start a mean-spirited thread, I wouldn't get in trouble?

Jamesh: It is OK should it be for the purpose of having a dig at me.
OK, may the record show that Jamesh wants me to start a thread where I put him down.

So, does anything I say in this forum anger you, or is it just when I try to drag you into the mud?

You seem to be in a sincere mood, so I'll take advantage of that fact. I want to know if I remind you of an ex-wife, ex-lover or some other important female in your life.

I just find it a little strange that you crave my negative attention so much. At the other forum where we interacted, you would often push all my buttons and usually got me to react.

But now, your reactions to me seem to be more calm, which makes it harder for us to have a fight. Why is this? Are you mellowing out in your old age?

In the interests of another statement you made regarding not understanding what I write, I have to ask how you took that particular comment that way since I just can't fathom it. I had intended to convey that I was not experiencing an uneasiness of mind. Aggression is certainly an excited state of mind, but I don't see it as necessarily uneasy.

Ok, I’ll respond then, seeing I'm in the mood.

So, does anything I say in this forum anger you, or is it just when I try to drag you into the mud?

Most things you say irritate me a little, but it kind of accumulates. This is not to say that most other people are at times not in the same boat, they are. I simply do not like other people enough to always be tolerant to them.

or is it just when I try to drag you into the mud?

You try and do this do you? How mature.

But anyway, that is when I get annoyed to a sufficient degree to react. I don’t like this reaction as it is a childish emotion, but in some ways, I'm still just a big kid, so yep I react.

You seem to be in a sincere mood, so I'll take advantage of that fact. I want to know if I remind you of an ex-wife, ex-lover or some other important female in your life.

Never been married, which is why I never learnt the art of toleration. Ex-lover - no. When I read the above I did have a thought about one of my earlier bosses. A female about 55. I'm a in good mood so I won’t belittle you again by describing her negative attributes. She was autocratic, without being smart enough to be so. Long time ago now.

I just find it a little strange that you crave my negative attention so much. At the other forum where we interacted, you would often push all my buttons and usually got me to react.

Lol, "crave your negative attention". So if a fellow states his opinion, and it is at an opposite pole to yours, then he is pushing buttons and craving attention. Sure I was/am nasty to you, as I have judged that is what your ego needs. Your opinion of your mind, relative to philosophy at least, is higher than it should be.

But now, your reactions to me seem to be more calm, which makes it harder for us to have a fight. Why is this?

I'd rather have a fight with someone I thought had enough substance. Been picking a fight with Quinn for a couple of years now (about one-sided absolute truths), all to no avail, and he is probably right - the problem is that we have discussed most of what I'm picky about before.

Are you mellowing out in your old age?

Yes, a bit at least. Hopefully it lasts, though that might depend on what emotionally negative experiences I have. I'm becoming bored with so many things, that some sort of crisis will probably arise in due course.

Anyway. I'm not going to respond to your questions anymore, if they relate to the clash of our personalities. You are, after all, just having a bit of entertainment.

L: Regarding the uneasiness of mind: such a thing is not solely dependent upon causing the rest of the universe to attack one. It has to do with fear.
Just read this sentence on its own. The the signifies that you do have an uneasiness of mind, otherwise you would have said "Regarding your suggestion that I had an uneasiness of mind".

Then you draw a relationship between fear and uneasiness of mind. So my first impressions were OK she is uneasy and does have some sort of fear, not sure what of, but some sort of fear.

The next bit did confuse. I thought "what is she saying - that is the opposite to what she seemed to be inferring above". I had to reread the first sentences. "It has to do with fear" reads as a statement about yourself, as you never specified what this fear was. I just stuck with that point and ignored the example. Why? because I do think you are a little unstable then I didn’t bother asking for clarification. Other folks sanity is sometimes quite hard to tell, due to the difficult subject matter we sometimes deal with - and this is why I use levels of aggressiveness as a guide.

I think both of us may sometimes assume we have stated something clearly, when it could be read in another context. I do think though that people don’t read what I'm saying well enough - probably because I generally make long posts. Apart from sentences where I leave out a word, or put in a different word than I meant (which happens too often), I think the bulk of what I say should be understandable in the context intended.

You might recall a story of mine about an ex-boyfriend who had me by the throat and my own surprise at just how easy (and super-conscious, I might add) my mind was at the time. I mean, seriously, the last thing you want to do in a situation like that is be afraid.

Don’t recall the story. Recall you said your ex was a crim.

I had intended to convey that I was not experiencing an uneasiness of mind. Aggression is certainly an excited state of mind, but I don't see it as necessarily uneasy.

This post is readily understood with no effort. There is no confusion resulting from the flow of ideas in the paragraph.
