Why Does Humanity Feel Guilt?
Perhaps, it is because you were deliberately mean, or maybe you feel inadequate about yourself when someone else is doing good in life, so essentially you compare yourself to others.
Comparing yourself to others can be somewhat good, it acts as the initiator to bettering yourself.
I've been basically good all my life, and at one time I complained about it. I was tired of being good I wanted to be bad. So I had two abortions. The guilt has never left me, because I'm hanging onto it, like I know I did something wrong. I took a life that was part of me and I killed it. Although I've forgiven myself, the memory haunts me. The Doctors acted upon my wishes to abort the embryo, but, I'm the guilty one who made the choice. Some childless couple would have loved to have had the opportunity to love this child I aborted.
Don't judge me, I risked telling you the truth, and bare in mind I'm human. See what I've done to myself by deliberately setting myself up to doing a something wrong, I've risked myself of being judged by humanity and God. And I've prayed for forgiveness, so I've been forgiven. And I'm using myself as an example of the pangs of guilt.
Why does humanity feel guilt, is it because humanity deliberately goes against good, and good being the God within us that we've sinned against, so essentially we've sinned against ourselves.
The only unpardonable sin is Blaspheme of God, which is cursing God's name in vain, denying his existence, otherwise everything else is forgiven.
Why do you feel guilt?

Re: Why Does Humanity Feel Guilt?
i wish otherwise upon this analysis, but guilt is what keeps our population constant. killing does not occur (often) because of the anticipated guilt one will feel. without guilt, humans would carry out the course in which brings the most pleasure upon them. humans are self-serving and only refrain, for the most part, from acting wrongfully because of the punished they will incur. punishment could be in the form of guilt, or of society's forms of punishment.
guilt is the natural justice system. where the justice system fails, guilt prevails. as for your case, and many cases of guilt. it is a natural response that cannot discern what is truly worthy of feeling guilty, and that which is not.

Makes sense!
I don't feel guilty any longer, but, I do occasionally think about it.
Self-punishment must be a form of guilt feeling.
To hurt one's self is to deny one's self the trust of others.
