Sony Fears Acts of God

Post by Animus »

So, my Playstation 3 died last week and I was just reading the Warranty information when I came across this:

THIS WARRANTY SHALL NOT APPLY IF THIS PRODUCT IS DAMAGED BY ACTS OF GOD

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/Warranties/PS3

They don't provide a definition for "God". I wonder if regular wear and tear is considered an "Act of God".

Well of course it is, technically, but try it on with Sony, see how far you get.

A warranty generally isn't a statement born out of fear, but mutual trust.

Firstly your Playstation 3 is not dead, so you can be confident God has not yet decided to terminate it. You simply need to follow some basic instructions regarding the "ressurection" of the machine. Take to your nearest sony dealer. You might have to pay for it, it's either you go broke or the Playstation remains broken. You need funding to own a Playstation 3. You also trade it it at a pawn shop, preferrably for a playstation 2.
You still have cause to fear the acts of God, until someone tells you otherwise.

Act of God is a commonly used legal term and should not be taken to imply any particular theological stance on the part of the user.

Wikipedia also tells us:
Real life legal actions where God is the defendant have all been unsuccessful.[citation needed]

I can't find my receipt to return it, is that an act of God?

I totally forgot about the legal use of the phrase.

Hmmm. So, my desire to have my PS3 replaced should be trumped by the abstract desire to "get a life" and as a bonus to desire, I'll get a tax credit?

Why not stick with my initial desire?

Refresh memory on that "initial" desire? So, go buy another.. Prince pretty much summed it up..

Having never played (toyed) with play station.. After a few minutes of watching the grandchildren screw around with the mindless bullshit commercialism throws their way, I figured better ways to while away my time on this earth.

PS - China's sweatshops can tell you when and where 'that act of god' can stick it :-)

Cribbage? lol

I've actually learned a lot about the mind from playstation. Nothing is a waste of time if approached correctly.

Here is an example of what the mind-brain can do with a PS3:

While I agree with the general sentiment of the above statement, the example doesn't bare it out.

In fact, a lot of modern theories concerning Alzheimer's disease take into account mental rigidity. Exercising the mind-brain with novel stimulants (games) can prevent Alzheimer's for approx. 10 years (at which time it sets in faster).

Video games demonstrably tune the brain.

But what I find more interesting with games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, is the degree to which a person has to suppress conscious thought. On expert difficulty thinking about the part you just played, or the part coming up next, or even the part currently being played, is far too slow to be successful. I have the best results when I'm in a Zen-like trance. There is just far too much happening to consciously process it all.

However, during the learning process it is all about consciously recognizing patterns and developing muscle memory to allow you to conquer the task. You develop strategies and employ them within the unconscious. The unconscious is what plays the game.

This same would be true for actual musicians, although that is a lot more expensive and not as easy to learn.

Games like this are good tuning for the brain and you might learn something about how the brain processes information.

Yea, sure, sure. Maybe you just got a hard-on for that particular song.
