How many of you...
How many of you...
I have a simple question for everyone on this forum. How many of you have posted on this forum at least once in an intoxicated state, whether it be high, drunk, or otherwise drugged? This is probably a strange first post, but I've just been browsing the forum for a while and I've realized that usually when I think about the meaning of life, the path to enlightenment, and "Ultimate Reality" I am high.

Re: How many of you...
Constantly. I'm currently prescribed 3 different mind-altering substances. All three of which are designed to stabilize my mind. Now, if you'd like to imagine that my philosophy is due to an adverse reaction to 5 years of bipolar medication, you'll have to take that up with the psychiatric institutions. And their definition of sane. And their understanding to step the fuck back when they try to use the illness or drug-use of humans to demean their patients' beliefs.
This thread is irrelevant to philosophy and belongs in Worldly Matters.

Re: How many of you...
Well no, it's not irrelevant. I am not saying these thoughts that you or I have, or any other person under the affect medication or drugs are due to those drugs. It's something to think about I suppose, but originally I asked the question simply out of curiosity. But it is an interesting thing to think about, isn't it, that drugs could make you think this way. Or could it be that they (not to sound like we're in The Matrix) "open your mind" so to speak. And that you've always had these thoughts in your subconscious, and certain drugs, medications and other substances simply push them forward into your conscious thought. Wouldn't it be irony if illegal substances actually led to breakthroughs in medical fields or politics?

Not I. Browsing for awhile? Looks like you registered yesterday. ;)

If you are coming to this forum to preach, you are going to be leaving fast. Get used to not being the wisest person in the room.

Saint Ramprasad is only the most recent sage to recommend the use of entheogenic potions. I dont recall ever being stoned while posting, but folks come by from time to time wanting a professional opinion; one of the perks of being the oldest Hippie on the mountain.Subliw wrote:Well no, it's not irrelevant. So- I could have forgotten posting while stoned. But at 68, I forget lotsa stuff without being stoned. it just comes natural. But many of us remember the psychedelic effect on art and music. Why would expect there would not also be an effect on philosophy?

Re: How many of you...
Sure, drugs of various kinds and altered states in general certainly can "open" your mind but that will rather depend on what sort of mind you have to begin with. Most people don't really engage in altered state experiences for this purpose so whilst I'd agree its possible, it certainly doesn't happen much. If it did, the world would be awash with thinkers.Subliw wrote:Well no, it's not irrelevant. I don't touch drugs, but have posted drunk. I don't like to get drunk really either. I woke up the next day to come and edit my post, only to read it, and feel that it was more reliable than I rememebred, so I left it.
Re: How many of you...
Even if they are just stoners, they are least are not religious zealots out to murder you cause you dont spell the name of god correctly. That shit didnt start till the religions that used drugs were replaced with those that used sacred texts.Dan Rowden wrote:Sure, drugs of various kinds and altered states in general certainly can "open" your mind but that will rather depend on what sort of mind you have to begin with. Re: How many of you...
Hmm, I guess that's because most of the drugs tended to be somewhat soporific in nature, whereas modern concoctions tend to be more, um - whatever the opposite of soporific is in a drug context.
Re: How many of you...
Subliw: People used to get high on hemp all the time before it became illigal. It is not addictive, contrary to popular mith.
It, (hemp) helps your mind concentrate and be more creative. My best ideas come to me when I am high.
Helps you appreciate art. :-)
I am high right now.
Pincho: You were born high. =)
Trevor: Try some.. it's good, might relax you. Just don't hurt anyone. =)
daybrown: Don't post untill you are high! =)
hsandman: You just lost, what little credibility you had. =)

Nietzsche noted German was quite inventive in stimulants. I've been in clinical settings, and seen the neurological damage from meth, or amphetamine, as it was known in Germany. Remember "The Mummy"? and how he walks dragging his leg? Same deal with meth heads.Dan Rowden wrote:Hmm, I guess that's because most of the drugs tended to be somewhat soporific in nature, whereas modern concoctions tend to be more, um - whatever the opposite of soporific is in a drug context.
Hitler got it in the arm. There is a characteristic gaze as well, as if they are looking right thru you. The shamantic potions take you out there to look over the abyss, and beyond to eternal truths. The drugs you refer to, take you out there... and leave you there. The lights are on, but as in Hitler's case, the conscience is gone, there's nobody really home. Except perhaps, a paranoid watchdog. Not that Hitler didnt have good cause, there were lots of attempts to put the poor bastard out of his misery.
Euthanasia would also be appropriate for lots of meth heads. They are no longer with us.
As for hemp, there's archeological evidence to show they used it, and at the time, they were the most innovative people on earth.

Re: How many of you...
I've gotten high a few times. It's just mildly amusing really. Doesn't do a whole lot for me.
It doesn't typically carry the pleasant emotional effect of drunkenness, although it is less disorienting, which is a bonus. For pure drug-based joy, nothing beats some MDMA.
But the only drug-induced mental states that really impressed me were hallucinogens: mushrooms and especially acid. Amazing experiences.

I might suggest reading the forum, and not just the somethingawful article. Most people here agree that the posts they picked were retarded, except for Ryan who stands firmly behind everything he said. Most of the other posters they picked aren't even regulars.

Re: How many of you...
I didn't have the "truth breakthrough" about women until driving north on I-95 in the third lane with a fat joint of haze. Ironically, it was pretty sobering.
I used to smoke a lot because the new perspective blew my mind, and I would learn new things from it. That effect started to wear off, so now I don't smoke anymore. Maybe in the future it would make a good Christmas present or something. Mushrooms are the shit, and I swear I learned the supreme meaning of life once (don't stress). Problem was it was only temporary. I'm looking for something more permanent now. We'll see.
I've always posted sober.

Re: How many of you...
I highly recommend against this. In my experience those who post when high, certainly around this place, do little more than make fools of themselves.TheRebel wrote:I smoke every day!! Also, if you smoke every day you're a fool by default.

Yup, bongs, pipes, dugouts with many hidden cavities & pack a couple buds so they get really blackened with residue sticky-gooey an' needle-nose pliers to pull em out and pack in a water bong full of dr. pepper...

Uh-huh, down to about 2-3 times a year with the neighborhood geezer-gang. Generally in some garage or take a spin (road trip) to the National Park. Somewhat of a bummer though, the drug-sniffing dogs show up at the most inopportune time.

When the family (girlfriend & kids) were in Hawaii many years back, we did the usual making the rounds with military patients who had no family, friends etc. & someway, met some group of people at the Tripler Army Hospital cafeteria.
The hubby asked if i'd care to smoke a bowl :-) ...some of that good ol' Mawwie-Wowwie (far out man) well i forgot about the family back at the cafeteria and wandered off (totally ripped) on-down to some HUD housing project.
Still trippin' and had to take a leak, well, i knocked on some apartment doors on about the 7th floor finally somebody was home and this blond-babe opened the door stark raving naked. She yelled out "Honey, the dealer is here" and wandered off. He came to the door and said "come on in" well i mumbled gotta take a leak "yeah, the pissers over there" he pulled out a sack a weed and couple minutes later i was walking around admiring all the oil paintings on the wall musing how he'd had gotten a hold of a Monet. Inquired and he said "from some commie dealer from North VietNam". Somethin about during the French occupation of IndoChina all those years ago.
Well he'd rolled a few fatties and kicked up the buzz even further than i'd been at the hospital parking lot. Fawk, i look at the clock and said i gotta go, he said "wait, he's a little stash for the road". He pulled out from the sofa three wads of cash each a circular roll of $10,000 handed it to me and said "thanks... same time next month?" I said, "sure".
Asked for a glass of water and found my way out the door.
The girlfriend was pissed. Showed her the $$$ and then she was really pissed when i told her what had transpired. And (i'll tell you-all later what i did with the loot).

Peyote is good though. Had some when i was back for the powwow in North Dakota a few weeks back. Those Native Indians have all the fun :) ... Arikara, Mandan, Hidista tribes.
Marijuana tea is about the best though.
