I don't quite understand you here. Are you saying that a paid bodyguard could not meet all your requirements of friendship without actually being a true friend?
The qualities of friendship -- I've listed some in this thread -- are not exclusive to friends; some or all of them could be exhibited by employees, supervisors, family members, clergy, or your squad mate in the army. Likewise, the qualities of a good employee -- let's say a personal bodyguard -- such as loyalty, punctuality, honesty, etc, could also be those of a friend. In other words, there are few if any qualities of friendship that are only available from friends.
If you really think about it I'm sure you would agree that a true friend is extremely valuable and rare in the modern age. In a society of hypocrite phonies who think nothing much of screwing you over to get ahead a true, lifelong friend is rather priceless, don't you think?
I don't think putting the word "true" ahead of friendship equates to a lifelong relationship. There are many kinds of friendship, from a good neighbor to a best bud, all of them true. None of them are priceless, though; all friendship costs, and the more valuable or useful it is the more it costs.

Carl, by priceless I think he means that the value far exceeds the cost.

But they could indeed trick you if they really wanted to. That's what undercover cops do for a living or a planted servant like was purportedly done to Mozart

The point is that someone under your employment could indeed meet all the requirements set for a true friend without actually being one. So, what makes for a TRUE FRIEND; a lifelong friend?

Sid,
But they could indeed trick you if they really wanted to.
What is your point?

If this concerns you, all you have to do is add "someone who really cares about you" to the list of requirements.

In the past you have alluded to having money. If this is so you most probably have a servant to...do your dirty work. Is your servant your friend? Really?

Sid,

I never confirmed or denied I do.
If this is so you most probably have a servant to...do your dirty work.
If by "dirty" you mean the work that I don't want to do, then yes, I have such a person.
Is your servant your friend? Really?
My servant is not my friend, even though I get along with her great. She does what she does for me in exchange for money. It's a win/win situation. Do you see something wrong with it?

Usually priceless means that a price cannot be put on it, it's worth cannot be measured (example: "The look on his face was priceless"). I'm saying that in the case of friendship, it can.

From the egotists point of view, a "true", lifelong friend is simply someone with whom you continue to egotistically identify because they validate you and sublimate your desires in some way.

This usually means them subordinating their own will and desires for the sake of reciprocated validation (assuming they can actually get it - dominance and submission being present in most egotistical relationships - but even then, being "used" is a kind of validation to the submissive).

Conventional friendships, true or otherwise, are rather ugly things.

Oh, okay, so now you are qualifying: a TRUE FRIEND is a lifelong friend. Would a lifelong casual friend, say a neighbor you grew up with, went to school with, and now were firemen together with, who you could count on for certain things but never were all that close to, qualify as a TRUE FRIEND? How do you define the term? Is TRUE FRIEND really related to time, i.e. lifelong?

So how does a night out with the guys fit in? You know, meet up at the local pub, crack a few beers, shoot some pool (and the breeze).

As you can see, this is a VERY, VERY IMPORTANT THREAD!

I feel people are being psychologically programmed to betray each other at the drop of a proverbial hat. I sense that advanced subliminal programming is going to escalate when all television programming goes digital, by law, in America February 2009.

It might very well work along with the microchipped flu shots you hapless victims have been taking issued by a government you cannot trust.

So, in this day and age the value of a TRUE FRIEND is something that should be seriously considered. You may soon find yourselves the helpless victims of super-advanced subconscious suggestions, administered through the television media, that you are powerless to resist.

I am going to make an important point when I feel the most intelligent of you have given your opinions in this matter.

BTW. Those of you who don't live in America: Is all television programming going digtal, by law, at the same time as it is in America?

I hope I'm wrong, but I feel whatever electronic sinister thing they have been doing through the television media, to control your minds, it is going to become 'crystal clear' when all television programming becomes fully digital, by law, in February 2009.

As it stands, I have no desire to even reconnect my electric television antenna. I've been disconnected from the media since October 1st 2008 and, after going through withdrawl, I have no intention to reconnect. I have over 1000 DVDs to make up for the crap I'm missing on television.

Only a fool feels he can fully trust the news they tell you on CNN.

Morons allow the news media to start their day and decide whether they are going to have a good day or not

As I have stated, I will make my comment on this matter after I have read the comments of the most intelligent in this forum. The dim wit morons don't need to bother responding. Your opinon is not required here.

I knew it. I knew it! My number 2 quality of A TRUE BLUE FRIEND, given BY ME on page 1 of this VERY, VERY IMPORTANT THREAD!:

"Not ratting someone out to the Fascists."

Huh! Check it out. This makes me not only a VERY INTELLIGENT person, but probably makes me a TRUE FRIEND of Renaissance!

I consider you people who have responded to be more intelligent than most who I see on the street. There are quite a number of ugly, stupid monkey people out there. I find it easy to imagine that their posts would be a lot dumber than those of you who have responded here.

Hey, you think this is all some sort of joke. That's exactly how they want you to think. You are indeed OBVIOUSLY properly brainwashed. They have you right where they want you. Whatever they say is bunk you agree. Whatever they say is legitamate you agree. You are certain your thoughts are originally your own, but I can 'see' that you have been properly brainwashed by their insidious system. Oh well....

A true friend is someone who will tell you that you are a fuckwit when you are being a fuckwit.

A true friend would tell you if he thought "The Secret" was tripe, even if he knew you loved it. You would both be able to debate the merits and demerits without concern of whether the debate or difference of opinion would damage your relationship.

The most important word out of "true friendship" is "true."

I guess you think of yourself as a 'noble genius'

I didn't make up this information about the microchip. Do a bit of research and you will find that it is not a figment of my imagination. If you have taken flu shots issued by the government you are most probably already microchipped. Chances are this mandatory upgrading of all television communications to digital is a part of the overall New World Order agenda to enslave the human race through advanced technology.

"The brain microchip is often referred to as "the mark of the beast". The long standing theory is, During the decline of humanity the beast (evil) will leave it's mark on most of the population. The beast's mark is symbolic of the brain microchip, that will monitor human behavior, thoughts, and ultimately override free thought and free will. Those with the chip will be marked.

The chip can be administered in many ways, which would make it quite easy for the Government to implant in unsuspecting humans. It can be implanted in our food, drinking water, intravenously, or surgically. This means the chip can be transferred from any needle or vaccination, flu shot, or anthrax shot. Any patient who has surgical procedures done may be vulnerable to the chip of death. It is believed the chip can also be inserted in foods or liquids and bind to the stomach lining."
