Could be an interesting talisman.
Rocks were also thrown on the roof of where i was living previously, they were thrown by adults, chronologically speaking anyway. Similarly, i recall an incident when i first starting having great satoris, some of my so called friends at school sought me out and found me in the bush by myself, and threw rocks so they fell near me.

Throwing rocks is an aggressive act but cowardly at the same time. It shows that the person is both afraid of the way you are, and wants to change you, and afraid of being close to you while expressing that. Enlightenment strikes at the most primitive aspect of humans, and rock throwing is also a primitive kind of act, still done supposedly by primitive people's in countries today. I note that rocks were purportedly thrown at Jesus.

Flirt with the women. They will protect and feed you.
I do a bit of that, partly as part of my study, partly to spin people away from seeing me as too spiritual, and maybe other reasons too.

If i let one into my life that could have political benefits, but one problem is if it didn't work out, which is very probable, the result would be like inviting the entire community into my private life. Even while it lasted info would probably flow out readily and give the manipulators more ways to try to sink their claws into me.

Some/many want me to get a job and take on one of the young ones and have babies. That is their primary aim, and there would be lies and manipulation and so on along the way.

Thanks. I asked because i emailed you on two separate occasions some time ago and got no failure notice or response. The lack of response may have affected some of my posts to the forum. I didn't have the triple zero's in there though.

Rhett,

Do you know of any material giving insight into what defines a satori? I know Hakuin talks of 18 great satoris in one of his works... but the specifics aren't mentioned.

I read David's explanation earlier and it was good. Satori's arrive to some through full-on dedication to understanding the nature of reality, you've probably heard that heaps before.

By sketches do you mean images? I actually created some of my own a while back that might help some people, i could dig them up if you like. Getting back into that could be good because I could possibly do some more work in that area, satori's were kind of a speciality of mine.

You could say that a satori is when the imagined world including the abiding imagined self fades away being seen as falsely contrived, and all that is left is the direct environment. But as David says, that isn't actually enlightenment.

After a quick look it seems i would need to host the image on a separate server(?). If so i haven't got one up and running at the moment, i should have access to one on my ISP, i just haven't set it up yet. I'd like to do that soon anyway to sort out my website.

Maybe i could PM or email it?

But these satori's have me intrigued, if not just for catagorical clarity.

Right on. Our situations are a bit similar, and I don't always feel safe or welcome where I live.

My personal preference is to share my deeper thoughts only with those who are capable of approaching them. Most of the time, with most of the people, the only thing I can do is put all seriousness aside, make some observation about my immediate surroundings and laugh about it. This method keeps me relatively safe, and certainly out of political trouble.

If i let one into my life that could have political benefits, but one problem is if it didn't work out, which is very probable, the result would be like inviting the entire community into my private life. Even while it lasted info would probably flow out readily and give the manipulators more ways to try to sink their claws into me.
I haven't read the whole thread, but I'm wondering why it's important for you to be involved with their politics. I don't think it's possible to sway a crowd without lies. Same goes for a woman. Using one for political advantage is just about the most dangerous thing I can think of.

My interest in socializing is how it reveals my weaknesses. I would certainly like it to help others too, but I believe the best way to do that is help myself first.

In general I think I'm pretty good at recognizing what I know and recognizing what I don't, and certaily better than the average person. But I also know I still have a ways to go. And when I look back upon times of giving advice to others, or trying to influence them in constructive ways, I almost always feel a bit silly. I may well have done some good, but in a sense it is merely accidental, because I still don't know the full meaning of what I say.

When I find myself in these endevors, it's almost always because I'm trying to fill my time with an activity - a form of entertainment or distraction. Perhaps right now is one of those times. I'd rather hold out on these things until I'm actually qualified.

Their main gripe with me is that i do not work for money, am single, and don't have plans for children. If i made concessions on these i would reduce their disapproval. But if i Involved myself with a local woman that would be dangerous as you say.

The reason i think about their politics is because it can easily wipe me out, and things are already looking marginal. One of the golden rules of politics is to have a stance, so you can amass supporters. If you swing around you can lose everyone. The problem is not knowing the culture well enough especially when i arrived, and being in the position i am, i have not been able to generate a stance that is acceptable to the majority.

I'm going to give a bit of a story here.

Having been different to the norm from youth if not childhood i have been in a position of minority in many areas. This can create a sense of powerlessness in political contexts.

Plus, i decided at a young age that i didn't want to be angry or hateful towards people. Especially so because if i, like others, used my consciousness and suffering towards these acts uninhibited, it would have been an overly intense event. It was easier to suppress the suffering. But when someone attacks you it can be hard to effectively rebuff the attack without using anger and hatred. People often don't care much about what is said in power play, it's the suggestion of violence in the emotions that determines the outcome.

For these and other reasons i developed some passive traits in the face of human attacks against me.

In the last few years, which have involved a succession of heavy attacks against me, i decided to seize the opportunity, to use the situations to become wiser and stronger. Understanding what is happenning and playing a role in political stoushes is part of my development and survival.

Politics might seem unrelated to enlightenment, but things are not so simple. Politics has a lot to do with the trade of suffering. Suffering is traded between people in all sorts of ways through politics. If people weren't suffering, i wouldn't be getting attacked by them.

Politics like business and nutrition and many other things often don't give you the option of doing nothing, unless you want to go under. There are plenty of people that focus on a goal and don't stop till they reach it or are thwarted. If there are people that want me out of here, they can just keep coming at me and if i do nothing they can succeed. Another reason they are coming at me is town's with cheap properties can attract an underclass of government benefit parasites, and they don't want that to get a foothold. Maybe also they predict it will be easier for them emotionally to get rid of me. They are acting in gross ignorance and maliciousness and pettiness of course, but that's how the cookie is crumbling.

Yes, it is interesting that you invite so much attack of you. You are either in the wrong place for you, or you need to adjust how you manifest. Myself I am quite radical, too, but am rarely attacked in any way. The only time in my life in which I attracted much attack was a time when I took it upon myself to be outspoken about my deeper beliefs. It wasn't even in-you-face outspoken, it was just out there more on my sleeve. And, yeah, that doesn't pay. People generally don't want to hear it, because, yeah, it reminds them of all they have given up on or never had the capacity to be.

Having read Rhett's (winded) response just once, I'm gathering that he enjoys 'living off the fruits of the working' classes.

Now, if he was independently wealthy, or babysat their children, (even the single-parent kids) he wouldn't be castigated the way he structures his life choices. He would seem to have a lot to offer the younger generation in the ways of an enlightened philosopher - but the refusal - to get a blister on his baby-soft palms telegraphs (to the working classes) that he doesn't give a shit about how they resolve everyday cares, and the hand-in-hand downer-days we all have.

Now, back to the Rhett..

-Rhett-
I'm going to give a bit of a story here.

Having been different to the norm from youth if not childhood i have been in a position of minority in many areas. This can create a sense of powerlessness in political contexts.

-tomas-
Well sure, I can see a sense of laziness in your youth juxtaposed by your writings here at genius.

-Rhett-
Plus, i decided at a young age that i didn't want to be angry or hateful towards people. Especially so because if i, like others, used my consciousness and suffering towards these acts uninhibited, it would have been an overly intense event. It was easier to suppress the suffering.

-tomas-
And how did your parents react to your lazy streak?

-Rhett-
But when someone attacks you it can be hard to effectively rebuff the attack without using anger and hatred. People often don't care much about what is said in power play, it's the suggestion of violence in the emotions that determines the outcome.

-tomas-
They've been in your shoes and the fit was uncomfortable. Or, in your case, "If the shoe fits - wear it!"

-Rhett-
For these and other reasons i developed some passive traits in the face of human attacks against me.

-tomas-
One of the other reasons would be, "Live to fight another day?"

-Rhett-
In the last few years, which have involved a succession of heavy attacks against me, i decided to seize the opportunity, to use the situations to become wiser and stronger. Understanding what is happening and playing a role in political stoushes is part of my development and survival.

-tomas-
The first sentence implies that you don't believe in 'welfare to work' as an active theorum.

The second sentence says that you are comfortable spinning your wheels, essentially going nowhere.

-Rhett-
Politics might seem unrelated to enlightenment, but things are not so simple. Politics has a lot to do with the trade of suffering. Suffering is traded between people in all sorts of ways through politics. If people weren't suffering, i wouldn't be getting attacked by them.

-tomas-
So when your refrigerator goes kaput, who do you call? The landlord - or do you go to the store and buy one yourself - expecting no repayment?

-Rhett-
Politics like business and nutrition and many other things often don't give you the option of doing nothing, unless you want to go under.

-tomas-
True, this sentence doesn't generate much sympathy for your cause, from me..

-Rhett-
There are plenty of people that focus on a goal and don't stop till they reach it or are thwarted.

-tomas-
This fits you to a tee.

-Rhett-
If there are people that want me out of here, they can just keep coming at me and if i do nothing they can succeed.

-tomas-
They come at you, because in the long run, they will succeed.

-Rhett-
Another reason they are coming at me is town's with cheap properties can attract an underclass of government benefit parasites, and they don't want that to get a foothold.

-tomas-
Ah, so you do admit to being a parasite? (a communist)

Is there some reason why you can't work off your housing/food/utility "allowances" by mowing the lawns, watering them, fixing up a squeaky floor, etc? In essence, just being a Good Samaritan - going out of your normal mode of selfish thinking - and just give a helping hand, with no expectation of a pat on the back..

-Rhett-
Maybe also they predict it will be easier for them emotionally to get rid of me.

-tomas-
"They" never (and I wouldn't have either) a guilty emotional conscience - it's all circumstance. It's your problem, and you brought it upon yourself by inaction.

-Rhett-
They are acting in gross ignorance and maliciousness and pettiness of course, but that's how the cookie is crumbling.

-tomas-
The worker bees (including the drone and queen) need people willing to pay the utilities, rent etc. or else the system breaks down. It's simply impossible in today's construct (local political entites) to keep on running deficits with no end in sight.

The Garden of Eden is here and now, it's just a matter of time before Satan comes patrolling your garden plot.

City, county, townships have a budget to work within, its no different in a communal (communist) setting - you don't work, well then, you don't eat..

Money flows from the workers with a promise for benefits when you are old and grey, crippled, senile.

It's like a slogan from the USA 60s:
America - Love it or Leave it...

I understand (have gleaned) enough of Genius Forum philosophical inputs to "sympathize" with all the forum members fragile egos, but at the end of the day (this life) one is judged as to whether one is "worthily" to enter into Eternal Life.

You don't sound (come across as) forgiving those worker bees. You are as guilty of trespassing as they are of doing to you. The first-fruits of your labors belong to god (nature), not little ol' you.

Your slogan is, "The government is my shepherd, I shall not want."

I agree. Though, too often, I get too much of a rush from the game*. :)

Initially, I had thought you were dealing more with tribal politics (more common in rural areas) than the politics concomitant with industrialisation and capitalism. It is, of course, possible for essentially tribal politics to manifest within pockets of industrialised society (anywhere from single neighbourhoods to whole towns), however. I think making such a distinction is important, since dealing effectively with the situation involves accurate profiling of all the players, and a subsequent plan on that basis. You know you are dealing with tribal politics when the power actually resides in individual personalities with labels, rather than an abstracted administrative structure (in the labels themselves). Tribal politics is most easily likened to family politics, really.

*PS: I'm almost tempted to come up there myself just for the hell of it.
