I went to Cuba, and found that it's not so different than here, other than being a moderately poor country. The upper classes love it; the lower classes hate it. Some university students guided us around the town and to bars and stuff, and talked about how wonderful the system was that everyone was equal and all of their problems would be solved if only the US would lift their embargo (to be fair there is probably at least some truth to this) They did have some complaints about everyone being held to a similar low level - there are beaches and hotels that Cubans are not allowed to go to.

On the other hand, there were a lot of homeless or poor people around begging, and these would talk about the evils of the system.

A waste of time for silly and egotistical people.

Most people have a vocabulary between 10,000 words to 12,000 words. I have a 3,000 word vocabulary, so, I am sorry for being silly and egotistic. Maybe, I shouldn't be on here!?!

Depends, how much of that 3,000 word vocabulary are you able to pronounce properly?

ETA: Wait, crap, are we being serious here? I thought this was a GWB joke... if you were serious about your vocabulary, I do apologize...

AC,

It wasn't meant as an insult toward you. I didn't realize you were seriously asking what a mensa puzzle was. I thought you were suggesting that we should do one, or something like that.

MENSA is an organization for people with high IQs, where they generally pat each other on the back for being "smarter" than everyone else and spend their time doing meaningless "brainteaser" puzzles to prove how bright they are.

My friend's mother was in MENSA. She spent 90% of her time sitting on the MENSA yahoogroups list or doing puzzles. It was very sad, because you would try to engage her in a discussion and she just couldn't talk about anything. :(

When I was a kid I used to occasionally imagine I'd join MENSA. But it later occurred to me that there would be no point in doing so. A lot of people say this out of a "sour grapes" motivation because they are not members and don't get to enjoy the "genius" social status associated with it. But that isn't where I'm coming from. I just can't see wasting my time with stuff like that. It seems to be good way to ensure that some of the most capable intellects in society are kept occupied with egotistical rubbish.

I was invited. I turned them down. I think it's a silly waste of time and money. You have to pay them to be a member!

Just as a reminder, this is a text based board. The rules prohibit images being posted. Links only, please. This is a one-time reminder. Future posts will be modified.

Hmm, didn't know that.

How boring and restrictive.

But, your board, your rules.

That's what happens when you don't read the intro threads. I tend not to either so it's understandable. And of course it's "restrictive" - but that objection doesn't mean anything, really, as you know.

No because most places replace smilies with images.
