Are we Unconscious when we Sleep..And if so how do we Dream?

I heard it through the grapevine that we are unconscious while sleeping, if this is true, than how do we dream? How can a dream be created from an unconscious brain.

How is a dream created in the brain?
Why is a dream ridiculous sometimes?
Why are dreams so real like
Think of the possibility that we have ability to transport our consciousness to another time in the future through dreaming. Maybe we all do this nightly.

We need to be conscious to remember the dream, and tell about it. It's possible that we never had the dream, and make it up when we wake up. I think it is a memory pushed back in time. Which means a weak memory, a low energy memory.

Mensa says: Yes, of course, I should have known that. You may be right, a past memory, I believe this.

Don't believe everything you hear through the grapevine (I live in Bakersfield.....oh boy) =P

Studies by various psychologists have shown that people can gain the ability to control their dreams, meaning live it out within the dream (actually moving, etc).

Repeats of past dreams (I experience this a lot) might indicate consciousness during certain dreams. Otherwise, it would be a strange coincidence to repeat the same dream 5 or 6 times, over and over again (fictional, non-fictional dreams, anything).

I've relived a scene of being sucked into a glass of water that is glowing light, pale blue; a glass of water with legos in it.

Yet (IMO) you will not always be conscious while sleeping, and (IMO) that is the reason you might not dream certain nights.
Consciousness creates memories, un-consciousness does not. Therefore, dreams (could) be the result of consciousness within a fake reality (created by your brain).

You dream, and are thus semi-conscious when in REM sleep. You will generally not be aware that you are dreaming until you wake up, you will recall having had the dream. On rare occasion a person may be aware they are dreaming while they are dreaming and this is called "Lucid" dreaming. You can take various steps to induce lucidity during dreams. While you are dreaming your real eyes track the pattern of eye-movement within the dream, and in various experiments lucid dreamers have been able to communicate with researchers via eye-movements. This demonstrates that a person is conscious of a dream while dreaming. However, as I said, in most cases one is not aware that they are aware of dreaming, this realization typically occurs upon awakening. When trying to become lucid in dreams, dreamers find that they are apt to wake up entirely instead of awareness-of-being-in-a-dream. The multiplicity of being aware of being aware is typical of being awake and not typical of dreaming. You have to realize there is a difference between being aware and being aware that you are aware.

Some dreams are made up after waking up, I know because there's a time delay between the memory of the dream, and having the dream. Like I had a dream of someone knocking five times on my door, then I had someone really knock five times on my door. I must have heard the knocks first, and then made up the dream to go with it whilst I was awake. But I can see that sleepwalkers must be dreaming, and sleeping at the same time. As for lucid dreaming, well I have done that many times. I can lucid dream, and be aware that I am asleep, and do studies in my dream, of my dream.

I thought in my dream "I'm asleep, I'll do a study of my dream."...

1) I picked a small statue up in my dream too see if my dream was in 3D. I turned it around in front of my eyes, and the dream was 3D.

2) The statue was painted blue, and red, and flesh tones, so the dream was in colour.

3) I pinched myself and I felt the pinch.

4) I told myself to fly, and after awhile I could fly.

5) I jumped off a cliff to see if you die when you hit the ground, but I just broke all of my dream bones, which wasn't painful, and I was like jelly arms, and legs.

6) I walked around the block near my home, and said to myself "When I wake up tomorrow, I will do the same walk around the block to see what is different". Then I saw a white van parked up the road, and said to myself "That white van has never been parked there before, I will see if it is there tomorrow. If it is there it will be a sign that you can see into the future in your dreams." The next day I did the same walk around the block, and the white van was there. The only difference was that it had rained, and I could hear rain in the drains, and that wasn't in my dream.

Now number 6 with the white van prediction I find strange, because I set out of the house to see if it was there. I don't believe in time, so I have to conclude that this was a coincidence, and I have to conclude that I heard the five knocks before I dreamed about them. Predicting the future doesn't make sense, and time travel doesn't make sense. Not because I don't want to believe in them, but because the Universe has no way to store nature as a recording, and if there was a way it would require infinite energy to do it. But not only infinite energy of every atom stored in time, but also infinite energy in infinite time in infinitely divisible seconds. So 1 atom alone would require infinite energy to have all of its movements stored. That's very greedy energy for something that only seems to be available through a dream of a white van etc. So coincidence, and delayed memories are a much better option.

I also had a dream that played tricks on me. I dreamed that I woke up!...

I woke up, and there was a Doberman dog lying down on the end of my bed, and it was growling, and angry. I was afraid of it. I thought "Show no fear. Tell it who is master." so I told it to "get out!!!" It stood up, and flew through the ceiling. Then I realised that I was asleep. "I'm asleep???" I got back into bed, and told myself to wake up. I was straining my eyes to open them. Then I woke up, and looked around the room for the dog.. lol! But saw.... myself!!! I was looking at myself standing besides my bed. I was still asleep. It was more realistic than the dog dream however, and had enough to look real, and also the memory of the dog dream in a dream.

When I finally woke up for the third time, I couldn't even tell if I was awake or not. It took me about 10 minutes to be sure.
