The Bible tells us that God exists, and millions and millions of people believe in what the Bible says. So many people could never believe in the Bible if God didn't exist because it would make the Bible such a big lie that it would be beyond ridiculous that all those billions of people could believe in it over the course of 2000 years without a single person ever raising a convincing argument. Therefore, God has to exist because for Him not to exist would be absurd.Dan Rowden wrote:I'd settle for a passingly decent reason for believing in such a thing, whatever actual thing we're talking about.

Do you know how much shit I get over that Tower of Babel fiasco to this day? Busts my balls, I tell ya. Stripped me of my omnipotence and because it’s in writing now (thanks to those who consider themselves divinely inspired) I ain’t allowed to change it. I think it’d be really funny though, had I my omnipotence restored, to suddenly go “poof!†and everyone’s mates again.
Could you imagine their faces?
You see, it went like this: I figured that if I wiped all the evil off the earth with the Great Flood, it’d all be sorted. But, no! Noah’s descendants had to get along just fine and dandy after that, they all spoke the same language. This was a total affront to me. What would I possibly do if there were no evil on earth? But does my God understand that? No. He doesn’t get that they would have built that tower to the heavens, working as a team as they were, and entered the Kingdom of Heaven itself! It was a conspiracy, I tell you. So, I cam down from heaven and confounded their language. Consequently, they built churches and mosques, temples and synagogues instead.
At the time, I liked the synagogues best (just something about their architecture), so then I sent Moses to tell the Jews that they were the Chosen Ones because they didn’t have any land to build more synagogues on and I sent them off to kill all except the virgins and female little ones there. I even gave him a map.
That was right about when my God stepped in, stripped me of omnipotence, and I had to come up with Jesus. Course, as you know, he failed. Jews killed him, even though he was a Jew (oh, I can't explain that one, you'll have to ask them!). So I tried again later with Muhammed. Man, I confounded them so much at that tower they still don’t understand each other to this very day, even though they all believe in me, just the one God.
So, you’ll understand my predicament when someone takes my name in vain. You know what happened to Bush recently and his "God isn't neutral between freedom, fear, justice and cruelty" number? Yep, me. Suicide bombers? Uh-huh, me again. 9/11? Mm-hm. Holocaust? Now that was almost as good as the flood.
But you should see what’s coming. It’ll blow your mind…
You think I favour anyone? You’ve got to be joking.

Man, you ain’t met my God, yet. Now, there’s a force to be reckoned with.Considering your great editing job the other day, we were hoping that you were a lady, Lord. :)

Well, did you see how I twisted the argument around so that the last word is "absurd"? I thought that property alone would be enough to make the cut :/Dan Rowden wrote:Now, Matt, you're not trying to pass that off as passingly decent, surely?
But, if you don't like that one, here is a page with over three hundred proofs for the existence of God.

It's not necessarily true that it's God who is answering my prayers. It could be explained by something else.
I also have gotten signs that I'm being led down the right paths and that I am protected.
Logically, a person can't prove the existence of God. It takes evidence for everyone to see (unlike my personal evidence). And even then people can refute it.
As to what Dan said:
But what I have to say about this statement is that there is no decent reason to believe in something which doesn't appear true to you. The only reason I keep an open mind is that strange things happen which can be explained most easily by the argument that God exists. Me believing doesn't get me a free pass to heaven. It doesn't do much of anything...so there's no reason for anyone to believe in God, in my opinion.
Bee Buddy replied:Knowledge of such is beyond us. It is a matter of faith.
I'm just sick of all the stupid sh*t done in the name of god.
This will kind of answer Kow's question to me about what my evidence for the existence of God is: If a bunch of people believed they had invisible sixth toes and that they could pray to it and their prayers would be answered, then I prayed to it and all of my prayers were answered as well, I would definitely keep an open mind about the invisible sixth toe existing. Why don't you have faith in your invisible sixth toe?
Of course I'm playing just a bit. But seriously, what's the difference?

We all know what we're talking about: the Christian idea of God.I'd settle for a passingly decent reason for believing in such a thing, whatever actual thing we're talking about.

If you see god as something higher than yourself in current understanding and comprehension, yes there is a godlike entity that walks about you.
That's a good start. This comment speaks to the idea of a God who walks amongst the people, such as the time when the messiah is here on earth. He is the preordained man who reveals all of the world' s understanding and comprehension to the people, and His message remains alive amongst the people until He returns to show it again.
