What is the purpose of life?
What is the purpose of life?
You're welcome to distinguish objective from subjective here. But since this thread is intended to entertain the consideration of both, I haven't distinguished here.
Some may claim that purposeful life presumes creationism.
Others may feel their own good deeds are their own reward.
But if cosmic heat death is inevitable, isn't it rather more than a question of if the end will come, a question merely of when?

The purpose of life is to take you back to being a child, renew the mind, and then allow you back to Heaven again with a fresh start.

Sear,
Perhaps you need to. What would an objective purpose to life look like and how would we discover what it is? And, what if I don't like it!You're welcome to distinguish objective from subjective here. I have a mathematical sollution to the purpose of life, and I convinces me that my theory is right, although it is an ambigous piece of mathematics. It goes like this...
Mankind lives in Heaven, not on Earth. Evolution happened in Heaven, not on Earth. Earth is a parody of Heaven made on a computer. Mankind evolved much the same as we look at this place called Earth, and mankind solved many problems. We managed to stop ourselves from aging, and dying of old age. We lived an eternal life, and our home was called Heaven. But this eternal life was not so great afterall. Once we had done everything, we started to pace around like tigers in a cage. The only things remainig for us to do that we had never done before were criminal acts like rape, torture, theft, and we really wanted to do anything new, so crimes started to become more frequent. It was decided that we would need to erase all memories of things that we had done, so that we could have a fresh start in Heaven. So they came up with Earth. When designing Earth it was important to keep many of the structures of Heaven intact. The physics, and the evolution had to be an easy change over in Death. But evolution in Heaven was very slow, it took billions of years to evolve, and mankind was 8 million years old. Computers were 4 million years old. But Earth had to be much newer than this. Mankind could not be 8 million years old, else how would you get a fresh mind? It was decided that there were many important times in Heaven's history that would be best for us to visit. The dawn of the computer age. Early movies from black and white upwards, early computer games. Entertainment was the key to keeping us sane, so we were put in a mix of Heaven's early entertainment age. However, thing had to be put into a lifetime, and had to be easily understood. Evolution had to be compacted into a much tighter timeline. The designers of Earth struggled to put evolution into a tighter timeline, and evolution from one creature to another was not noticable in our shorter timeline. So the designers of Earth decided that they could get away with exaggerating evolution. They decided to put Dinosaurs on the Earth so that the bones were huge, and obviously not from any creatures that were already known to us. This would put the evolution spark in our head, and then you put the lesser changing animals amongst this leap.
So what guidance do you think we should give on Earth? How about a book of rules? The Bible. We have to be careful not to tell people that they are in this fake environment. How do we tell them about our leaders the Gods? Now God must be some sort of abbreviation for some humans that are in charge, and had to be included in life on Earth. We must wake up in Heaven, and beleive that God created us. Well realistically were were put on Earth, and made by the law. So I like to call the lawmakers of Heaven the 'Guardians Of Destiny' which is G.O.D. And then we have law implanted in us, we will not go against God. There are lots of clues on Earth that give something away about Heaven, but they are all tiny, and there are some mistakes too.
So how long do we spend on Earth? ...2 or 3 days is the answer. What???
An hour in Heaven is a year on Earth. It is like this so that it is easy to care for us during our sleep. Yes, our bodies are still in Heaven, we live on Earth in these borrowed bodies. But our bodies in Heaven still have to be cared for. So we spend just 3 days on Earth, but it is speeded up into 72 years. Or 48 years if that is all that is required.
So far this sounds like Sci-fi.. so what about the math's?
The human race on Earth is 4 milllion years old. We should live for 4 million years more. That's an 8 million year lifetime of humans. By chance, we should not be living in the Dawn of the computer age, the dawn of DVD, the change over from B/W to colour tv, the beggining of computer games. We have lived the most important time of Earth's history entertainment wise, and that is either extremely fortunate for us, or it is deliberate.
The odds of us living in this exact period of time is 111111.11 to 1. A funny number in itself.
8 milion divided by 72 years. So that's 11 thousand to 1. And that's if we only live for 4 million years from now. We could theoretically live for billions of years, and the odds would go up even more, probably to a million to 1.
So I like to use my 11 thousand to 1 shot to say that this life that we live is just a parody of Heaven. I like the odds of me being right. I would also say that we get about 700 years in Heaven before we crack.

Pincho... You made me spill my drink. :-( , but it was worth it! :-D Ooh, i have tears coming..... ohh crap. I am not even going to attempt to follow you there.
It's a great story, but don't say you are going to show mathematical proof.
Kind of kills the credibility, and makes the rest of us nutters look bad. =)
ps. Pincho have you ever seen this movie? hitchhikers guide to galaxy?

I hate mathematics! lol. Are you working with/for victor in a plot? O_oMankind lives in Heaven, not on Earth...

That math's is good enough for me, and I think that my theory is the only one I have ever come accross that has a mathematical status. Other theories go against math's. And the reason that it has to be called Heaven is because they put that in our book of rules. Obviously there are different sections of Heaven, probably other planets entirely. Everyone can fit in to suit their requirements. Different languages for example.hsandman wrote:Pincho... There is a difference between mathematics and numerology -- the same sort of difference that exists between astronomy and astrology, chemistry and alchemy, psychology and phrenology.
What you are doing isn't math. It's pseudo-math, numerology, bullshit in and out.

This calculation assumes that each time period has an equal number of humans, which is known to be false. You can't just use the total amount of time, you have to take into account the fact that some time periods had a lot more people than others did.Pincho Paxton wrote:The odds of us living in this exact period of time is 111111.11 to 1. 8 milion divided by 72 years. So that's 11 thousand to 1.
Estimates for the total number of humans born, ever, fall somewhere around 100 billion (e.g. here and here). Divide 100 billion by the 6 billion that are currently living, and you get 18.33. So if you put all the humans that have ever existed in a giant bucket and picked out just one, the odds of it being a person who is currently alive are about 1 in 18.

You haven't included the extra 4 million years of future, which at the very minimum evens the spread out to even number of humans, but is more likely to effect the balance towards a future lifeline.Philosophaster wrote:This calculation assumes that each time period has an equal number of humans, which is known to be false. I know that the future is speculation, but so long as you believe that we will survive then my math's is good. And particulary if you think that the human race can survive eternally, then this is deffinately a fake world, because mankind can make all of the things that I have said.
Re: What is the purpose of life?
Someones purpose in life is decided by himself. It can also change depending on the situation and what ever can give him meaning.
