The Unconscious Woman

Post by Kunga »

I don't know what this means. Unconscious of what ? To me there is no such thing as an unconscious woman, unless she is dead...or had a lobotomy...or was knocked out unconscious. Please help me understand this. Thankyou.

Kunga,

It depends what we mean by consciousness. If we are simply talking about cognitive awareness, then yes everyone with a certain level of brain activity is conscious. But if what we mean is knowing what's absolutely true, then less than 1% of the human population is actually conscious.

Nick,

So to be conscious is synonymous with being Enlightened ? (Knowing what's ABSOLUTELY TRUE )
So if you are UN conscious you are UNAWARE of the TRUTH ?

Like compairing a Enlightened person to a UNEnlightened person ?

So..essentially what "They" are saying is, that the feminine mind lacks the qualities that would enable Enlightenment possible ?

What "Qualifies" one to have a mind ripe for Enlightenment ?

Not quite sure who you are referring to as "they", but yes, the more feminine a person is, the less likely they are to attain enlightenment.

Just to be a little more specific, the feminine mind gets easily attached to things and tends to be all over place which makes the task of attaining enlightenment nearly impossible. To be a good philosopher you need to be able to detach yourself emotionally from things so you can thoroughly cover all the bases, and you need a mind with a very pointed focus that can penetrate deeply into whatever direction it's headed; qualities which are generally considered to be masculine, and are absolutely essential if one is to make any progress in the case of enlightenment.

This is what I think.

Man has an _I am_ consciousness. Woman has an I am _that_ "consciousness."

Where man is essentially an independent "I", woman identifies almost fully with her environment, with her passions, etc.

She doesn't have the ability to sit back and consider her individuality apart from things.

She can't self-reflect. She can't rest in the self. That's why I think she isn't conscious.

This sounds more like what an Enlightened person would be like ( losing sense of SELF...finding self in everything )

In Tibetan Buddhism the woman is considered Wisdom the man is Compassion...isn't that compassionate ?

Tibetan women carried a big part of the culture as well as being deeply committed to their own spiritual path. In the Vajrayana, in the deepest sense, there is no separation between the masculine and the feminine. Tibetan women sit very solid in their femaleness, and they also sit very well in their maleness; they are not threatened by the masculine in the way that Western women are. On the contrary. In the Tibetan tradition, the feminine is wisdom, the universal container. The masculine is compassion, which arises out of the vessel of the feminine, wisdom.

Tibetan Buddhism is the most stupid form of Buddhism in existence. It's almost an insult to the Buddha to call it Buddhism.

What flavor of Buddhism do you regard as acceptable ?
