Gotta love politcal correctness

States have denied drivers messages such as "GVT SUX," "WINE," "PUSHER," "QUICKEE" and even "ATHEIST."

"Atheist" is an offensive word? Figures. I once read a study stating that atheists are "the most distrusted minority in the United States."

And for good reason, in my view. Those who base their lives on various religious fictions correctly intuit that they have plenty to fear from critical thinkers.

We sneak up on innocent churchgoers and steal their beliefs right away from them.

Not quite, but they know that if we get into their circles, "protected" topics will eventually come up. We are always a potential threat to their beliefs, at least in their minds.

Freedom of speech?

Post by DHodges »

Hundreds of battles over personalized plates have used up untold government resources in a strange corner of the law that has some of the nation's top courts issuing contradictory rulings.
Your tax dollars at work.

Is this a freedom of speech issue? One solution would just be to not issue vanity plates at all. It's not like there is any particular right to have one.

I don't have vanity plates, but I do have something like one of those Christian fish on the back of my car, except it's the Flying Spagetti Monster. Christians might find that offensive, if they had some clue what it was. Or would they just think, "Pastafarian, well, at least he's not an atheist!"

Vanity and Mooning

I'd rather "they" (we the people governance) do away with all vanity plates. The owner has plenty of other places to vent their feelings about this and/or that.

Dashboard crosses, virgin mary statuettes, Up Yours, Kiss My Grits, window decals, bumpers etc - all kinda locations on car/van semi/rv to 'be what ya wanna be'.

Free speech is separate from the license plate issued by Big Brother/Sister (hillary?)

It's annoying enough (in a funny sorta way) when you are mooned or breasted... i guess the whole idea is shock your libido.

Anyways, the new plates will have a RFID tag - scan so the coppers will easily identify the perp, getaway vehicle whatever.

They probably think that atheists have personality disorders who lack compassion and are in need of psychiatric help .......

Yes, some of them probably think that. But the actual DSM criteria support it?

Evidence is the difference.

It's kind of strange, really; you'd think they'd want to know who the criminals amongst them are. Maybe they really are being compassionate in some sense.

Since you are not American, you might not remember this from George Bush Senior:

"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God."
- George Bush, to a AA reporter Robert I. Sherman in August 27,1987, while serving as vice-president and running for President, Full text of exchange follows:

Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are Atheists?
Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the Atheist community. Faith in god is important to me.
Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are Atheists?
Bush: No, I don't know that Atheists should be considered as citizens,
nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle
the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on Atheists.

Some other quotes, and source for above

Many American Christians don't know (or care about) the difference between an atheist and a Satanist. These are the boneheads who have been grabbing power over the last two decades or so.

Of course there is life after death. Just not for you and I. As entities. In fact, though, there is no death, because ultimately there are no entities. There is only life.

Well sure, death can simply become another life. I may have misinterpreted your statement, but are you describing some astral relation?

A connection with the "supernatural".

There is no such thing as supernatural. It is as incoherent as the word 'universes.'

You can understand how a musician wouldnt care for the bright stage lights in his face, but the earliest big star I know of to wear dark glasses on stage was Ray Charles. Who didnt have the problem. The others then took up this token of craftsmanship.

Same deal with the popes, who were always geezers. So, the young priest processes down the aisle to the altar at the same doddering papal pace. As for Plastic Jesus, she plays all right, but I couldnt get all the words. I needa find a printout.
