Perhaps you can explain why you'd call dealing with the "terror of the unknown", authentic. Is it then a loss of fear?

Language and concepts, are they really the problem? You just talk about a "terror", which is a feeling, or a strong emotion. Anything can become a refuge, anything at all.

'Me' is a better word than ego, consciousness etc. because I experience ME. I am ME, the experience is ME. separate.
Me is located here and now as a felt experience.
The culture bewitched me with stories of It.
The stories didn't satisfy.
Authenticity forced Me out of the cultural stories.
Alone.
Generalised anxiety, angst about 'here, now in the World'.
Not at home in the World.

Not at home in the World is a mood that the words not at home in the World are trying to represent and do a good job of showing the mood as it shows up.

It's not a mood where one dwells as refuge.
It's a mood that discloses the inauthenticity of human being finding refuge in anything.
It's a mood a Me is driven to get away from.

Causality has us configured in such a way that the brain and nervous system has a Me constructed as a reference point or anchor point to experience from.

The problem that isn't a problem once it's understood is that for the Me, it gets down to a situation where the concern is a Supply issue.

Finding refuge in stories about It, although inauthentic, SUPPLIES meaning and resolves the 'terror'.
No story can gaurantee Supply but 'Gimme Shelter' is the concern for a Me.
Any port in a storm.

Anyway, it seems to be about meaning hunger and getting your hands on a sustainable supply
that'll do for the time being to at least resolve the mood of not being at home in the World.

I'll say 'absence of meaning' clears the traffic jam.
But you, dear Diebert, with your uncanny perceptiveness in these matters will refer me to the possibility that 'absence of meaning' can in and of itself resolve the supply need and have me dwelling inauthentically in a conceptual structure 'as refuge'.

It was authenticity that drove Kierkergaard out of the 'we' space of inauthentic christian stories into the Me space of subjective truth and commitment.

Is this fair enough as 'appraisal of the situation' with regard to human being?

To conclude at this point.
A 'Me' configured by way of Causality hankers after a Supply of one sort or another to fix a mood in order to feel at home in a World.

When forced out of the cultural stories one assumes the role of alien, some form of prodigal son? It's a core element of what I see as masculinity: to break away, to drift off and abandon the old world.

The question is where exactly he can find peace again, a new type of home. You call it the "World" but it's hard to tell what that capitalized word means to you, to me.

Correct, meaning arises out of connections, which arise out of sense impressions and the larger bodies and cycles we are part of. There is never really an absence. It's a problem specifically to this age that meaning gets lost, ironically in a time where electronic connections are flooding our lives. But productions can disappear by overproduction as easily as with a lack of supply.

One can abandon the configuration only to return to it - having never really left.

Diebert,

Being appraised of the assumptions that the culture is based on as false beliefs. The culture no longer supplying satisfaction. An experience of incredulity at the wanton irresponsibility of the herd to confront the fear that drives it.
The question is where exactly he can find peace again, a new type of home. You call it the "World" but it's hard to tell what that capitalized word means to you, to me.
The World means to me the 'sense of a separate me, a separate you, a separate it'.

It all appears to turn on the realisation of the false belief in a separate me.

'Home' to me means having that belief disclosed as false and experiencing the relief and freedom that disclosure brings.

Even after disclosure that the World is mere display. Scottie has not beamed us out of here.
We still require a supply source, even to just keep the body happening. We still have to be connected up to cultural machinery to satisfy that. Feels like whoring at times.
Meaning means 'something matters'...staying alive appears to matter as opposed to suicide.

Being with others 'like minded' matters.

Acceptance of not being in control matters as one's pattern plays itself out.
One can abandon the configuration only to return to it - having never really left.
How true.

Not having it as a problem matters. We're all in the same boat.
