Excessive Masturbation - Possible Causes/Effects ...
So, yeah... Hmmm... What would you consider as "excessive" ... ? And what are the benefits/disadvantages of... ehem... making love to yourself?

Is this your way of asking to be banned, again, or what?

This is actually serious and a very "philosophical" issue.

It is? How so? Its survival depends on the quality of your answer.

I think I maybe addicted to porn. "Smilla Rocco" is my latest girlfriend. She's hot!
It's kinda gotten to the point where I don't really feel in the mood, but she makes me bust-a-nut anyway.
The question for all sages: since we understand the purpose that sex has and we shy away from any unnecessary attachments, is jacking off acceptable? (Hmmm... attachment to oneself?)
I'll post something more penetrating later.... (she calls)

Dan will probably delete this thread as soon as he wakes up.
DI, there are millions of forums where you can talk about porn. Why here?

Since you are using female objects to stimulate yourself (which necessitates all sorts of mental gymnastics) your question is self-defeating and nonsensical. The attachment is entirely obvious.DivineIntercourse wrote:The question for all sages: since we understand the purpose that sex has and we shy away from any unnecessary attachments, is jacking off acceptable? I wouldn't call "people", objects! The question is this: as a sage, one who is inclined to keep attachments at a minimum, is self-pleasure automatically crossed off the list of necessary attachments, or not? (I know that in some cultures any form of a sexual act without the purpose to procreate is deemed a sin).
Your thoughts?

I'm not the least bit interested in the moral dimension of masturbation. For me it doesn't have one. Attachments aren't things you "minimize"; they are things that either arise or not depending on how much of one's ego remains. To the degree that attachments arise, to that degree one is till caught up in delusion.
Jerking off to porn shows that you're caught up.

I'm really surprised that you haven't deleted this thread. How come?
I think attachments which you have an emotional connection towards are the real issue. For instance, if a sage is said to not have any attachments, I think that would mean that he doesn't have any emotional attachments - so he'd be free to chose if he's going to eat or not without too much trouble, but the question then becomes a question about biology. A sage even though he doesn't feel that emotional connection towards food will still feel the physical effects, so how is this different? It's more similar than not. Anyway, mind over matter.
There are ways to bring yourself up and the same can be true for the contrary. What is the right thing to do?
I don't think that it's possible to rid yourself of the ego entirely. For one, the practical side of who you are will always be there, so... What do you think of that? +Also, there are attachments such as attachments to food, and looking good, and keeping up appearances, improving health, questioning sanity, etc etc etc... You've got to come down from the heavens at some point and when you do it's back to who you were before this new way of looking at things occurred. It's almost as if nothing changed (I don't like this).Attachments aren't things you "minimize"; they are things that either arise or not depending on how much of one's ego remains.

lol - I sometimes have a good chuckle while reading posts by DI. I really don't blame you for not understanding that which I'm trying to get across. My issues are with organizing my thoughts/sentences in such a way that makes them understood. Hopefully it's not completely unreadable for you.
Re: Excessive Masturbation - Possible Causes/Effects ...
I think it's all subjective. Anyone who tries to tell you how many times a day you should masturbate is messed up...DivineIntercourse wrote:So, yeah... Hmmm... What would you consider as "excessive" ... ? And what are the benefits/disadvantages of... ehem... making love to yourself?
