This past week the CDC released some very shocking news - antidepressants are now officially the most prescribed drugs on the market today.
And why is that news shocking? Let's take a look at the facts:

Dead cigarette smokers are of little use to anyone.#1 In 2004 the FDA began to warn the public that they were seeing an increase in suicides among youth with the use of antidepressant medications.

See this is what I've been telling people! Don't take antidepressants, snort cocaine instead! That will make you feel better with none of the side effects.

Perhaps a (legally imported) coca leaf tea potion, otherwise I'd not risk prison-time with the caged roosters :-/

Sad, one legal vice given up for another :-(

Does it make you sad enough to need antidepressants? Where's Ray Kurzweil, I think I've found another phenomena displaying a feedback mechanism which leads to exponential growth. I predict we will have highly intelligent but depressed robots like Marvin the Paranoid Android by 2010.Tomas wrote:Sad, one legal vice given up for another :-(

New scientist article.
A depressed person is likely to recognise that although he hasn't solved his own problems and escaped his own hell, he is going to duplicate those problems by creating another life. Talk about driving a man to insanity.
The stupidity of this idea is beyond belief. Genuinely depressed men will only become more stressed by the responsibilities of having to look after a pregnant wife, and thereafter of raising a child to sane adulthood. It is as if the seriousness of his illness is completely overridden by the woman's need to have babies. So should men taking SSRIs whose partners are struggling to conceive come off their drugs for a while? Given that untreated depression may create a suicide risk, that is a tough call to make. "I think it's a case-by-case decision," says Carrell. Men in this position "definitely need to work very closely with their mental health provider".

The only problem with anti-psychotics is that they only work with psychotic people.I prefer anti-psychotics. They calm me while working with the intricacies of floopy disks.

Lice love to pick out a place where the bristles are long and sparse and call it their spacious mansion, their ample park; or a place in some corner of the hams or hoofs, between the nipples, or down around the haunches, and call it their house of repose, their place of profit. They do not know that one morning the butcher will give a swipe of his arm, spread out the grass, light up the fire, and that they will be roasted to a crisp along with the pig. Their advancement in the world is subject to such limitations as this, and their retirement from it is subject to similar limitations. This is what I call the precariously perched.
Matt Rogers is a rugby union player who plays for Australia. His father commited suicide a couple of months ago, at age 51, after suffering depression for the past four years. He fell into depression when his wife - his "soul-mate" - died from cancer. Before that he was a healthy man. He was an outgoing chap, an elite sportsman himself in his day, who never suffered depression.
Matt is scared that he has inherited the genetic disposition for depression - a reasonable fear given that his father's brother had also committed suicide in the past. But he believes that he will be fine because of the love he shares with his wife and their three young children. He says that they are the loves of his life, his well-spring and inspiration. They will help him, he believes, stave off any potential slide into depression.
He is what I would call "precariously perched".

Yes, a tale often heard is that a new love (woman, man, money, job, child) comes into a person's life and it lifts them high up into the heavens. And they rejoice and are elated with all their new found blessedness. And being so high up, they become oblivious to the long drop below them - that is, until they fall. Then they wail and thrash about in a fit of misery, longing for their loss to be returned. And sometimes it does return, and they are once again transported skywards.

Article: EVERYBODY ASKING "what is going on with the world?", first of all its not the world, its only YOUR world there in the USA. But other place too.
Second, many have been answering this question here on this forum for years looks like- USA and also World no one hardly valuing wisdom anymore, and the highest accepted wisdom is whatever most women want and think is best, some call it flourish of femeninity, whatever you call it no doubt many of YOU have been indeed saying here over and over *what is wrong* with world.
If people become more civil and less attached to things of the world then immediately we would have improvement. People freaking out now for fear of neighbor or war or chaos will become calm down, so need less medicine. Just 1 example.
Said also epedemic of female teachers chasing male students, Are you sure this true? I thought was pretty rare considering how many male students is in USA, and female teachers.
But what do I know! Maybe it IS 10 or 20 percent! then we have epedemic, but 1% or less not is epedemic, right?
Also said USA perscriptions like 2.4 BILLION year 2005 I think, wow! divide people what 300 million, that is 8 perscriptions per person or adult?? Is my math close?
Just seem outrageous that people in USA average 5 or 10 perscrptions each with maybe 1/4 of people taking mood altering drugs.
To this add now the ILLEGAL drugs and I bet you there are more people medicated in the USA than there are NOT medicated in the USA!!!!!!
We should do anonymous survey HERE on GF, Yes or NO medicated one way or another, which to me includes regular heavy use of alcohol and pot too.
Survey would tell us how many percent of us are totally free of medication, may be pretty small part of US. Survey should ask yes or no live USA?
I have no idea how to set up survey, though.
I remember in my past when filling out application was always in great minority when asked IF you smoke or drink, seems like most people either smoke cigarette or pot, or drink booze, or both. People from church are often ones not smoking, drinking, or taking other drugs.
Anyway, seems to me USA is getting educated like liittle child who runs too fast and bruises knees on ground falling. Americans are breaking free or sexual oppression, and also taking other freedoms, such as freedsom to experiment with self, to "new heights" as they say.
Not know where is best stopping point, not sure how to balance all richness they have, so they now are going "overboard", after this period there will be turn around and stabalization, may take many years though. The world learns the good and the bad from leaders, and then eventually whole world will become more balanced, more compatible, may be great time for human race so long as no one pushes big red buttons not very much. We can stand some nuclear but only so much, right.
Our grandchildren may be part of upswing, what a sucky time we were born folks!
Im thinking of how I can re-embody myself asap!

Considering that antidepressants are also now in drinking water, that means that the risk of side effects is going up throughout the general population. BTW - that article is from 4 years ago, so the concentration of antidepressants in the water has likely increased since then.

Re: Antidepressants Now MOST Prescribed Drug Of All
From the article:
Yes, I didn't think the pharmaceutical companies were just pouring the stuff into the waterways.Experts say the anti-depression drug gets into the rivers and water system via treated sewage water.
Bad news for all those users hoping to get the stuff for free. But as you say, Elizabeth, perhaps by now it has become more concentrated. I can't imagine those pharmaceutical companies being happy about that. I'm sure they'll chip in big to help get it out of those waterways ASAP.A spokesman for the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) said the Prozac found was most likely highly diluted.
