It depends what you're talking about when you say "collective consciousness".

When we refer to reality we are referring to experiences of the mind- existence, that which we know, there could be no reference to something other than the existence we know.

So is "collective consciousness" something like "inter-dependent reality"? Because that would make a lot of sense.

"Thoughtless state" on the other hand I might agree is not a reality as part of a conscious existence. The cessation of existence is an entirely different matter.
