Re: On The Importance of Imagination
Probably the most unimaginative and dull post about the importance of imagination.
The function of the three fold dynamic that is Freud's human psyche, is best interpreted as thus. The Ego interprets the Id, which is governed by the over-arching Super-Ego. Even if the Ego is damaged, this is almost a proper situation, as the Id (the irrational, yet supra-logical unconscious) brings to mind the Universe in its unconscious glory. As "what is within, is as without." Or something like that. Yes, the interpretive function of Super-Ego is to balance the communication between Ego and the Id, as a mediator, a "conscience" which logically kick starts deduction and induction. The importance of the imagination is best described as a producer of new visions, new Universes. Quite literally. This includes all phenomena. "The Tao is in Everything."
=== Get rid of this crap.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge." As knowledge is always subordinate to the imaginative function, whether functioning unconsciously or not. ==== Elaborate more on this.

Imagination is the missing link, connecting logic and observation. Even as you connect your thread with my own, you may intuitively sense the underlying connection. Perhaps the more correct question is: "What is the imagination?"
Is it not logic and observation?

things to say, but first a vacation.
Re: On The Importance of Imagination
a known panorama reveals a knew one, our prescence being able to make associations with it. imagination is still the best copula in the area of possibilities.
all creative influence begins inwardly, however displayed, often chaotically. it subsequetly becomes deductive, formal, doctrinal, or mathematicalized.
the unknown is a metaphor, broad, rippling and displaying. our emotional reaction to it becomes our meaning to life of which few are partly conscious.

Re: On The Importance of Imagination
Simply speaking; imagining ‘what if’, leads to achieving ‘what is’.
Even Einstein could not have achieved what is, if he didn’t dare to imagine what if.
Steven, what the hell does 'edited for bile' really mean'? :D

Re: On The Importance of Imagination
My super-ego had a talk with my Id, which decided my ego was too much.

Re: On The Importance of Imagination
The imagination is functioning in its full capacity when the individual is using it to mentally imagine the way things are, whereas the potential of the imagination is stifled in unconscious humans that use it to derive excitement, pleasure, power and security from imagining ‘what is’ to be something other than what it is.

Re: On The Importance of Imagination
Agreed. I was however talking about the 'medium capacity' which is well balanced against logical reasoning. The middle path so to speak. It usually is a disaster if it tips over to the other extreme too, in my opinion of course.Ryan R wrote:The imagination is functioning in its full capacity when the individual is using it to mentally imagine the way things are, whereas the potential of the imagination is stifled in unconscious humans that use it to derive excitement, pleasure, power and security from imagining ‘what is’ to be something other than what it is.
