God is Omniscient--All Knowing, so why does he have to Think?

Re: God is Omnipotent--All Knowing, so why the need to Think?
You've made a mistake: to be all-knowing is not to be omnipotent, it's to be omniscient.
In answer to your question, though, God might need to think in order to translate what He already knows is going to happen into action. For example, God might know that He is going to bring on Judgement Day at a certain time, but it might nevertheless require thought at that time in order for Him to actually do that, in the same way that it requires thought to control our muscles - we might "know" exactly what we are going to type, but we still have to use thought to direct our fingers to type it.
He might also think for pleasure, in which case it's not a "need" but a "nice to have". In general though it doesn't make much sense for God to think conceptually given that He already knows all concepts and can learn nothing from the process of thought.

I'm omniscient and I think because Nature dictates that I do so.

Can God tell a joke that even he doesn't know the punchline to?
A mindful man needs few words.

All very clever. Who says God has to think? Thinking is what we do.

Consciousness must be to 'Think'
To 'Think' must be consciousness.
I remember 'thinking' in my mothers womb-- I knew I was aware.
I knew when I was heading for the birth canal, and instead of coming out
into the world in which I opposed so much, I almost killed my mother by going
up inside her.
The Doctors thought she would die. I didn't want to come out, I knew that.
God is omniscient--all knowing, we are part God.
We are all God divided into individuals, one supreme consciousness divided,
which would explain how we know what another is thinking, or words we think a second
before someone says the word.
God is 'consciousness' and consciousness 'thinks'
Consciousness can transform itself to different forms, such as human, or alien.
Do you notice how humans transforms themselves constantly, from birth, to adolescence,
to adult, infants transforms the quickest--the change is right before our eyes.
Alien is God, Alien created human. Alien is not human, Alien is Alien. Alien is consciousness transformed
into form.
God is consciousness, we were created in God's image, therefore we are divided from one consciousness.

Messenger, is all this "New Age"?
Re: God is Omniscient--All Knowing, so why the need to Think?
If God is boundless and infinite. Then God must not think, thoughts are finite in nature.
The Mset contains infinite copies of itself within itself, but the problem here is that it is still bounded by it's representation as a mathematical formula (F = F^2 + C) as well as a 2D graphic. So it is not infinitely infinite, thus it is finite.
True infinity must not be describable.

Unbounded; that which is not finite.Animus wrote:

Those are not descriptions but just alternate terms to indicate the same meaning (i.e. synonyms).Ataraxia wrote:Unbounded; that which is not finite.Animus wrote:

Animus is right, there can be no such thing as infinite consciousness.
Re: God is Omniscient--All Knowing, so why the need to Think?
I didn't get the impression animus was refering to consciousness, infinite or otherwise.
I do agree with animus' reasoning that if God is infinite then God wouldn't be able to think, however.

Consciousness and thinking are not identical. Thinking implies a process existing in time. Consciousness implies neither a process nor necessarily an existence in time in that it must somehow change with time. If we do not agree that a computer can think, then we may say consciousness is required for thinking. Yet thinking need not be required for consciousness. One remains conscious in the state of nirvana, but one is not thinking as one does in states below this.

So, what is consciousness?Brokenhead wrote:Consciousness implies neither a process nor necessarily an existence in time in that it must somehow change with time.

I found this kind of interesting experiment called "Pointing at MU (Nothing)"DivineIntercourse wrote:So, what is consciousness?Brokenhead wrote:Consciousness implies neither a process nor necessarily an existence in time in that it must somehow change with time.

Could you "explain" that?
Re: God is Omniscient--All Knowing, so why the need to Think?
Not really any better than it does. MU/No-thing/infinity can be experienced. The exercise is a path to it. Its not about your face, its about the place you are perceiving from. Not your brain but the experience.DivineIntercourse wrote:Could you "explain" that?

Why can you not say anything about it?
