I'm an Athiest but I believe in the afterlife. I believe in Heaven, but without GOD. A Heaven made by mankind's souls...they created Earth, because they had crime, and because their eternal souls needed somewhere to go when they get totally, desperately bored. They participated in every form of entertainment, and ran out of ideas. "We need to reset our memories somehow?" "Forget that I watched Rocky 122798"..
I see us being sent to historic times of Heaven, and then place those historic moments on Earth, but fairly compacted. So we get a new identity, and we start all over again. "Now where do we chose to begin our new lives?"...
How about, the end of B/W tv, and just starting out with the early colour tv programmes. Oh yeah, and we better include the beginning of the computer age as well, otherwise we will never cope up here with all this computer technology to get used to.
So I am talking about this exact time in history. 1980-2000. And it only really works during this exact time. Is this a coincidence?
You will of course argue that other times work just as well. Well, actually, I have thought long, and hard, and there is no other time that works this well.
So think of the odds of living around 1980-2000.
4 million years since the first human.
Maybe 4 million years till the last human.
That's 8 million / Your Lifetime.. say 72 years. = 111111.11
111111.11 to 1 against you living right now.
So I am saying that I have pointed something out, and the odds that I am wrong are very unlikely. Almost proof that I am right, but not quite.
Meaning that there is almost deffinately a Heaven.

I think I read somewhere that there are more people alive now than have ever existed before in history.Pincho Paxton wrote:So think of the odds of living around 1980-2000.
So that would make the chance of existing now as more than 50%.

Re: Death
You have to include the future as well. We are alive for say 72 years. It is a small slice in history. In 4 million years you could say that there are so many people alive, that the odds of us existing in 4 million years are 99%. But we are alive today, and this is the time where computers, and other forms of entertainment are at their infancy. I just think it is too much of a coincidence.

I read that 1 in every 20 people ever to have existed are alive today. So the world population today would be 5% of the total up to this point in time. Still a ridiculously high percentage, considering the thousands or millions of years of humanity.Kevin Solway wrote:I think I read somewhere that there are more people alive now than have ever existed before in history.Pincho Paxton wrote:So think of the odds of living around 1980-2000.

Re: Death
z, I have no idea what you are talking about. Personally, I'm riveted to my seat. I've had a whole new world revealed to me, just like when Princess Jasmine hops on the magic carpet in the 1994 Disney movie Aladdin and sails away with her boo.
The only thing I don't understand about what Pancho is saying is how Aladdin can sing so well and yet the chorus of guardmen consider him to be "riffraff, [a] street rat, [and a] scoundrel", and then punctuate these epithets with flying axes and a hearty "take that!" Is singing a crime in medieval Middle Eastern countries? In the West, he'd've been put up on the stage and praised as some kind of prodigy.

Re: Death
Am I supposed to sound ingenious, and showing off my amazing claims? I'm sorry if that is what this site is about, but I am not claiming 100% that I am right. There is the chance by pure luck that we exist at the beginning of the computer age, and the end of B/W tv. It's just that this chance is less likely than the idea that we were put here deliberately. It's the only time that will ever exist that works with my theory. Holographic tv does not work with my theory, because the films already will exist by then, and will simply be recreated from DVD to Holographic, the same as HD movies are now being taken from old films. And my idea does not work before 1980, because computers were not in the home then, and you would get to Heaven, and have to cope with a world full of computers, because Heaven needs computers to create the Earth, and therefore had them millions of years ago. SO it is this exact time in history that we need to be sentient, and aware of our surroundings. Fortunately we are here, so how lucky do you feel? You have just won the lottery.

But you said your theory is wrong. It's the only time that will ever exist that works with my theory.
I can see why you think your theory is wrong. And my idea does not work before 1980, because computers were not in the home then, and you would get to Heaven, and have to cope with a world full of computers, because Heaven needs computers to create the Earth, and therefore had them millions of years ago.
Before 1980 you say? Wait a minute, this might actually be possible. If people weren't aware of their surroundings, disco would totally make sense. And movies like "Grease" can be interpreted as just random collisions without any sensory input.SO it is this exact time in history that we need to be sentient, and aware of our surroundings.
I'd feel better with some of this existence deposited directly into my savings account.Fortunately we are here, so how lucky do you feel? You have just won

Re: Death
Paxton as agnostic impotent Ubermensch:
Following Paxton's line of thinking (where it can be followed) it all goes back to when God (who doesn't exist) THOUGHT about creating the world and conceived it - which I suppose means he had in mind what the world was going to be and what human nature was going to be. These were the "essences" of the world and of humanity, the things that will make them what they are. Then God created everything and gave existence to the essences. Thus, to God, "essence precedes existence." Now, Paxton doesn't believe in God, (perhaps) so there is no place for the essence of humanity to be before human existence - existence comes first. The essence comes later. Indeed, essence is whatever Paxton decides it is going to be i.e. souls (god's CONCEPTIONS). For Paxton "existence precedes essence." New thinking? Hardly...All Paxton has done is replace god's thinking with his own, and demonstrated how inadequate it is. Is he right? Is he wrong? To both questions he answers 'perhaps...' Which would make him more agnostic than atheist. To be an atheist means the rejection of divine essence, to be Ubermensch means to be decisive, to create out of your own essence...Its no accident that the majority of the world's most creative people have been atheists - or is it?

Re: Death
z, very impressive. All I was able to get out of it was some kind of numerology bs.
With a few more paragraphs, and with the addition a few more esoteric concepts (preferably ones that Pincho does not know), you could have some terrific satire. The colourful allusions to essentialism, existentialism, and Nietzsche are great, but it won't be complete until the entire philosophacopoeia is included.

Re: Death
I am not claiming that I am wrong, or right, forget the black, and white priciple that you are applying. there is the word 'probably' which is missing from your vocabulary. The odds are in the favour that I am right. Are you claiming you are wrong?
But a human is even more likely in the future to know all of this, rather than God. The odds are in my favour again. Try throwing a different die.Following Paxton's line of thinking (where it can be followed) it all goes back to when God (who doesn't exist) THOUGHT about creating the world and conceived it - which I suppose means he had in mind what the world was going to be and what human nature was going to be.
Presuming that you are right about God knowing that we would require a certain amount of entertainment, and that we would creat a computer in the future. This God had no teaching whatsoever? This God always had all of this knowledge? It was inherent in his mind, and this God has intelligence, but probably not a brain, because a brain brings us back to humans once more. God created us in his image, which brings us back to humans once more. God presumably has hands, and legs, and feet, and a head, and a brain... humans have all of this.
Let's turn God into something else, maybe a cloud. Now we are not in his image anymore. So basically, God has to look like a human, and think like a human, and know all that humans will ever know. My die throw says that God is a human, and living in Heaven, and living in a world that can create planets, and has put us here deliberately. This sounds just like a future of Earth, and it has developed until we have overcome death, which is happening now on Earth, because scientists now know why we age. Once death is overcome, we are then faced with our boredom. Entertainment has a limited life expectancy. We are already seeing repeats of movies on Earth after just a few years.
So I am gambling, and I am trying to have a set of rules that give me the best odds of winning. My strategy is to use mathmatics. we live for around 72 years.. it's true. The first human is dated as being 4 million years old.. it's true.
The sun will eventually die, and humans might not exist after that day, but we certainly have a future of some sort. This date that humans can survive is an unknown. apply a number to this, and it's a guess. I like to apply 4 million years to our future, but it is a die roll.
Ok so we eventually stop people from ageing, because the science is already close to this. We live forever, we get bored. We find a way to remove our previous memories so that we can watch movies once more, and experience games once more, and enjoy life once more. To do this we place humans back to the beginning of entertainment, as a baby. We place them back to when computers first entered the home.
So you might have people arriving in 1960's, and living through the B/W stage, into the computer age, and into the CGI movie stage. Then you end their life just as holographic tv arrives. They then move into Heaven, and have the holographic technology in place, and can use the computers without extra training.
If you look at the history of Earth you cannot find another period of time where this situation works very well. Send people back to 1890, and they have no computers, so Heaven will seem like an alien environment. Send people to 2050, and the entertainment is already complete, so they are basically in the same situation as they were in Heaven. All entertainment has ran out, they can watch all movies before they are 10 years old, and are not fed movies slowly over a number of years. They can play all computer games as well. So I roll my die, and I come up with this exact period of time.. TODAY.
The odds of living TODAY by chance are not likely. Like throwing a die and always getting a six. So even though I might be wrong, and I use 'UNLIKELY' as my term, I actually believe that I am right, because I never win the lottery, and I am never this lucky in my life.

Pincho,
If you are not right, you are wrong. I'd rather remember this simple fact of reality than believe that your probabilities are meaningful.I am not claiming that I am wrong, or right, forget the black, and white priciple that you are applying. there is the word 'probably' which is missing from your vocabulary.
No, you simply wish that you are right. I have seen no evidence from you that would sway any careful thinker into believing a word of what you say. Therefore, aside from through wishful thinking, I can't see how you managed to convince yourself of this nonsense. The odds are in the favour that I am right.

Re: Death
The human brain does not work like that, and neither do the energy fields that create the universe. The human brain stores 3 consequences. True/False and maybe. If you want to ignore the maybe, then you are not using your brain in the way that it is supposed to be used.If you are not right, you are wrong. I'd rather remember this simple fact of reality than believe that your probabilities are meaningful.
How can you be a careful thinker if you ignore Maybe which creates a gateway between true and false. Is your reality based on what you personally choose to believe? You cannot gain enlightenment from only believing things that you choose from a list, and by not believing things in the same way. You are basically acting in a random manner. No, you simply wish that you are right. I have seen no evidence from you that would sway any careful thinker into believing a word of what you say. Therefore, aside from through wishful thinking, I can't see how you managed to convince yourself of this nonsense.

Pincho: quaternary logic trumps your ternary logic. Hell, why I don't I just keep adding terms until I have a dodecanary logic with 20 terms? True, false, yes, no, will, won't, shall, shan't, perhaps, perhaps not... I think I'd eventually run out of words. But it would still kick your stupid ass.

The brain only has 3 connectors though, so you are making the rest of them up. Yes/No maybe is all that a brain uses. The other terms that you are using are made from these three decisions.

Even were that true (and that's the first time I have heard such a claim), ternary logic would not, on that account, be the best possible system for establishing truth.

Sorry I edited my last post. Yes, you can make anything from 3 decisions. Even a universe can be made from positive/negative, and neutral energy. Just three things to make all things. Neural networks are computer versions of the brain, and these use just 3 choices, and have amazed their designers with how they can learn. I saw one learn speach, and it was fascinating.

Well you initially started with just right, and wrong, so you had no option but to say I was wrong, because to say I was right would be a leap of faith, and that would be too Christian. I actually would prefer you to search through as many options as you like, just so long as you use more than 2 options. I am not asking you to have faith in my idea, I am asking you to branch it into some useful information.

Either your theory accurately describes reality, or it does not. In this case, there is no reason for any more options.
There is, in fact, less than two options. If you consider falseness as the absence of truth, then the only option is truth.
