partners?
It seems like every day I have a new realization linked to my developing realization of emptiness. Today it's the possibility that having a partner may really be just another attachment to be avoided. Any thoughts?

I can only attest to that my girlfriend and I have been together pushing 45 years. Works for me.otiosedodge wrote:It seems like every day I have a new realization linked to my developing realization of emptiness. Now that her monthly periods are a thing of the past .. means that we needn't sleep in separate bedrooms. Obviously, there are times when we still sleep separate (like when I am have gas attacks) due to bad food combinations and the like. Otherwise we've been happycampers and fill 'emptiness' rather well. Solitude has its place in life and we have separate interests and the like but to be alone like some bizarre form of celibate monk reading Genius Forums and re-reading Nietzsche till the cows come home seems a rather odd way of getting ones life straight.

One doesn't need to "avoid" attachments, one needs to outgrow them. The one and only reason for that is that they derive from delusion.

I think this makes a lot of sense. Attachments happen, as we do not live in a vacuum. The minute you think you are free of them, they return with a vengeance. They swarm like flies. A horse does not have to think to swish its tale to shoo away flies; likewise I find it useful to have a "daemon" running at all times to keep myself shorn of attachments. I would like it to be autonomic, but it is not. It requires attention.Dan Rowden wrote:One doesn't need to "avoid" attachments, one needs to outgrow them. A partner, to me is a God send and Devil advocate which keeps the balance of a man/woman's soul, spirit and body.
