Absent,

I get the feeling you think this messageboard is about becoming a brainiac. It isn't.

As others have already suggested, please click on some of the links and read for a while. And follow the current threads for a while. Before asking a lot more questions.

In other words, practice listening.

Then formulate carefully.

Either you are not paying attention at all, or you are playing us for fools.

In fact, it hardly seems that you are responding to our answers, but just firing more tangental questions.

The movie did not give an accurate enough portrayal. He could not control it without therapy. Even with the newer medications they eventually put him on, he still had the hallucinations. By sheer determination to grasp the difference between delusion and reality, he was able to become functional (and even win a Nobel Prize for some of his earlier work before the illness took too bad of a hold on him).

The mental work is very important to being functional, but for some, medication is required in order to make the mental work possible.

If someone needs to be on medication, say for ADD or bipolar, they need to be on the medication, then they need training on how to control their minds (in that order), and they need to put in a great deal of effort.

Absent,
Oh and can you please comment on my writing, is it good/bad, what should I improve upon, does it have a hint of potential intelligence...
Writing is a skill that is acquired by learning the rules and with practice.

Work on your punctuation. You do a lot of run-on sentences. After a full sentence, you should put a period or a semicolon, not a comma. Pay more attention to this.

--I don't know why I'm so weird, but this is the internet and the only place I feel like asking questions like this without fear of embarrassment...thanks again!
You seem to be doing good. Keep that zeal as long as you can.

[quote="AbsentMinded"]What knowledge must one acquire and use, in order to become a brilliant thinker?...how should one go about studying and trainning the brain, to improve intelligence...and raise I.Q

For starters, don't ask such simplistic questions. Brilliant thinkers see answers to questions that haven't even been asked yet. If you don't get this, then you may not have the capacity or the intuition to become a brilliant thinker.

Also, being a brilliant thinker isnt all its cracked-up to be. You will be challenged, labeled, ridiculed, chastised, and alienated. You will know you are a brilliant thinker when all of the other dunces in the room stand in unison against your idea.

When that happens, then you have become a brilliant thinker.

food for thought....

Just because everyone thinks you're an idiot doesn't mean you are brilliant.

John Nash & Mental Illness

Ahh... The "darkside" of genius..

John Nash did find a way to make it work. He came to a genius conclusion. He decided to take the same approach with the "voices" in his head as he did with all of his fellow math colleagues. He ignored them.
What a simple and brilliant concept...

That is true.. But then again, you really may be an idiot as well.. My point was primarily directed towards the ignorant people within a group dynamic. You know, the ones that love to second guess others, not neccessarily for the greater good, but because they like the sound of their voice. I hope that clarifies my point for you.

Is there not a contradiction in the last couple of posts, written by grandnux?

Nice observation Mirage. It sometimes can be tough to be both intelligent and human at the same time..
