HPV vaccine

Post by Pye »

.

Perhaps someone here can enlighten me on the following: Why is the new human papilloma virus vaccine being marketed only to young women, prior to becoming sexually active? There is, apparently, a connection between HPV and cervical cancer. So the reasoning here is that young women become inoculated before they begin sexual relations with infected males, so they might not get cervical cancer somewhere down the road.

Why are we not addressing the potential infections of males? Why are they hands-off, and once again, lawmakers are hands-on regulating the affairs of women's bodies, but leaving the male, once again, untouched, autonomous? If this is a vaccine for HPV, why is it not available for all humans? Is this some sort of cost/benefit thing?: women, get ready for your sex lives, get ready to fulfill your use. There are dangers, and we, your fuckers, have done a thoughtful thing for you. But we, your fuckers, are free to retain and pass on whatever heebees we possess. It's up to you to defend yourselves from us . . . we're off the hook . . . .

HPV has been linked to cervical cancer in females. If a male get HPV, essentially he doesn't have a problem because of it. Most of the time, there isn't even a way to tell if a person has HPV. Why would guys get a shot for something they would probably never notice they had, and would never have a problem with? But for young women, it could prevent cervical cancer.

I repeat: if there is a vaccine for human papilloma virus, then why isn't it available for everyone. That a male sometimes doesn't know he would be carrying the virus is exactly an argument for getting inoculated. That only a female can contract cervical cancer from exposure is exactly an argument for inoculation in any possible partner as well. We should add that the virus can be passed forth without sexual intercourse -- again, more reasons to inoculate a population rather than a single gender.

You are carrying on here Pye like a typical full of shit woman. Women need to accept responsibility for their own cervices.

If males are already infected then I'd imagine a vaccine would do anything much. If a male is not infected, then forget them taking something just-in-case.

I just looked up information on it - and in the US, at $120/dose and $360/series - and not even to prevent all kinds of HPV, I really don't see guys going for it. Considering that many health insurance companies don't cover it, but federal programs provide it to females under 19 who are uninsured, I don't see many young women able to afford it unless their families are poor.

What's more, as with any vaccine, there is no guarantee that it will "take" and if it does, how long the vaccine will be good for. I elected to take the Hep B vaccine, and my body required 9 shots before it finally took. There is no way I could have afforded that if it were not provided through work due to the high-risk occupations.

Finally, they have only completed testing on females under 26 years of age. Appearantly it is possible for HPV to cause penile and other cancers as well (I was recalling information from at least 6 years ago when I said that males essentially don't have a problem with it). They are only now testing it on males and older females.

In case Oz has not heard, this vaccine has become mandatory law in one state of the american union - applicable to ALL females in a certain age range - with other states no doubt to follow. O would that this were merely about women taking care of their own crevices . . . .

Ta for the additional comments, Elizabeth.

It's getting repealed. I didn't think that sounded like something that would go over very well in America.
